Into the Undergound
He continued to run, though his breath now came in short spurts; his lungs felt close to bursting against his ribcage. Even as his legs felt close to collapsing he forced himself onward, for it must be close by. She had promised him that they would come. Promised him his foolish notion that he could hide it would not last a month, let alone a life-time. But mostly she promised him that when his foolish beliefs were tested and failed, she swore that they would protect him... But only if he found them in time...
Their footsteps were hard on the concrete behind him, and so onward he ran away from their cruel shouts of a violent end. Every muscle screamed and begged for him to stop, fall to his knees to give into his fate. What was fate to him but an idea long held by society to keep their ignorance. But ignorance was a source of security. As long as they held it, they lived without fear that the force would come for them, that they too could become an undesirable.
He turned around to see how close they were. Had they gained on him? Had he not run fast enough? Before he could turn his head to again see where his feet lead him, he slammed into a stone wall and fell to the ground in a crumbled mess. The force came running towards him in their clanking boots, armed to the teeth with all manner of weapons. He didn't even know what kind of undesirable he was, and without their armour and weapons to be big and strong they would have feared him. He looked up as the force prepared to take him in, end his life as he knew it then and there.
A puff of smoke rose from the ground, blinding all within its circumference. It only lasted a minute, but by the time the smoke cleared, all that was left was the band of force standing awkwardly with their weapons drawn and no one to fight. The boy had vanished, and into the Underground away from their hateful eyes, and his family's love.

Flecker City is kept in line by the intimidating Force, an elite group of military men sent to protect the city from the developing "undesireable" population. Those who have been marked by the bright colours of the virus: on their eyes; skin; or hair, will begin to develop strengths not natural to the human race. For a world run by careful order and control, the rapidly growing undesirable group within Flecker Cityhas become a terrifying problem. For those who have become marked, they are forced to flee to the only sanctuary: the Underground. A system of tunnels, and buildings that the Force has been unable to penetrate or destroy has become the only safe-haven in all the world to which lucky undesirables take refuge.
Few understand how the virus has taken root within the population of Flecker city, and the Force is determined to keep it from spreading further. For those hidden in the remote tunnels and passageways, the underground promises security in the face of certain death.
