On the surface: When on the job, Nicolas tends to seem rushed. Still, being in a hurry is no excuse to be impolite, and he will usually give a hurried apology to anyone that tries to talk to him or he bumps into. If he absolutely must stop and talk with the person, he will seem a touch impatient and, once the conversation is over, will go back to dashing towards where he needs to go. All bets are off if someone is foolish enough to be a jerk towards him when he needs to get somewhere in a hurry.
When off the job, he is far more calm and has a fairly relaxed pace. He can even seem almost mischievous to people on occasion. More often than not, he'll have a smile on his face and a laugh in his voice when he talks. Even someone who would deserve a good smack in the face will get a fairly cheerful reaction from Nicolas, at least until the man decides to get even with them.
Regardless of whether he's on the job or off it, Nicolas just can't seem to say no to a battle, though he'll at least ask that the number of Pokemon used be reduced if he's supposed to be working. Regardless of whether he's winning or losing, he always seems to have some sort of smile on his face while battling. He even has a tendency to chuckle while giving his Pokemon commands if he's really getting into the fight.
But deep down: An adventurous boy from a young age, Nicolas enjoyed reading stories about people going off on big journeys and enjoyed wandering around outside of his hometown even more. For him, there was no greater adventure than becoming a Pokemon trainer and traveling around the region and, possibly, the world, challenging the gym leaders and the elite four. On his tenth birthday, his parents helped him get registered as a trainer, loaned him one of their Pokemon along with a Pokeball, and kept an eye on him as he captured the first Pokemon he could truly call his own, a Poochyena.
For some time, things were rough between him and his Pokemon, but as they traveled, the two of them grew closer, especially after the young Pokemon evolved into a Mightyena. Of course, the road of a trainer is a difficult one, and not many people manage to make it far. While Nicolas managed to make it through several gyms over the course of a few years, in the end he ran into a stumbling point with the last few gyms. While he was confident that he would be able to defeat the leaders, there was the slight problem of needing a water Pokemon in order to actually get to the cities that held the gyms. While, in theory, it would be easy just to go capture one and train it so it could carry him to the appropriate gyms, he did not intend to have one in his team and dislikes the idea of capturing a Pokemon just to get from one place to another.
He managed to do well enough in battles to earn some money and, after pooling together his resources and calling his parents for a loan or two, managed to rent himself an apartment in Rustburo and enroll himself in the city's prestigious trainer school, specifically the older classes. He spent much of his time studying, though he managed to have enough spare time to play with his teammates and friends, the Pokemon he captured during his journey. In order to earn money to pay back the loans he got from his parents and continue paying for his apartment, Nicolas looked for part time work wherever he could and eventually got picked up for a while by the city's Pokemart. While he had to spend some time stocking shelves and helping people find what they're looking for, occasionally he had to run a few boxes of various things to a nearby city.
During his time working at Rustburo's Pokemart, he kept an eye on advertisements for companies that were hiring people. Occasionally there would be one from Devon Corporation for a courier, and, from what he could tell, most of the main requirements weren't too hard to fill. Skilled trainer, obviously, since he had participated in the league challenge and made it a long ways. Fast, no doubt, he had to do a lot of running when he was younger and made sure he stayed in shape. Familiar with the region, he'd better be, since he had to travel all across it during his journey. The only thing that was ever a problem for him was the reference from his current employer and, even then, after a few years, that was no problem either.
Eventually he was hired for a part time position, mostly delivering parts and custom Pokeballs, and he felt like he was doing well. He was doing the best part of his childhood dream, traveling around the region, as part of his job working for one of the largest corporations, if not the largest, in all of Hoenn. Even better, unless it required going to Pacifidlog, Sootopolis, Mossdeep, or Ever Grande, he had some of the fastest travel times for his deliveries. With the successes of his deliveries, soon enough he was hired on for a full time position. Still, with the passing years, along with his eyesight beginning to fade into nearsightedness, he still felt like he had some unfinished business.
After several more years working for Devon Corp. and carefully amassing his vacation time, Nicolas has decided to start traveling again. He managed to work up several months worth of vacation time and all he has to do is complete a few more deliveries before he can officially start his journey again. After reworking his strategy from the ground up he has also managed to see a place where he can fit a water Pokemon into his team for the sake of having it as a partner, not just for use in traveling. With those in mind, he is more anxious than usual to get going and make his delivery.
• Chapter One: Part One - After finishing his most-recent delivery and taking a few moments to relax and converse with people before heading home, Nicolas, like everyone else, received an odd broadcast on his Pokegear. Not too long after, a girl named Kervel, along with some of her friends, showed up in a helicopter that was stolen from Team Solstice, looking for recruits for an attempt to save Mew from the organization. Nicolas quickly agreed to go with the group and, along with some Kervel and two others, impersonated a grunt within the organization in order to get close to the machine containing the small legendary Pokemon. Unfortunately, as soon as Kervel attempted to mess with the device, a large Garchomp and four additional robotic Garchomp attacked the group, meaning their disguises were, ultimately, worthless.
Though the group managed to survive the onslaught, in the end, their efforts were in vain, as the organization as a whole had no intention of following through with their "leader's" wager. ((Will work on more later...))
