Greetings to the family of God here at 'The Well'!
When looking at all of the sin, corruption, anger, and hate that surrounds us in this troubled world, do you sometimes find your courage failing? Even the most faithful followers of Christ found their courage flagging when the going got tough. Peter thought he could handle anything and yet when asked if he was a follower of Christ, he denied his Lord three times. Peter didn't think he would fail the test, yet Jesus knew just what would happen.
What do the Scriptures say about courage? Let us first look at the Psalms (K.J.V.) Psalm 28:1 The wicked flee when no man pusueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
Where does such courage come from? David knew that we could be bold and courageous only when we trust completely in God.
Jesus healed a woman who touched Him as He walked through a crowd. A person from the temple ruler's house questioned why the woman would bother Jesus. We find an answer in the gospel of Mark. (KJV) Mark 5:36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
Briefly, real courage is facing our fears and asking God to help us overcome them. On our own, courage comes with much difficulty. With God, all things are possible!
The apostle Paul talked about courage to the young pastor Timothy. Paul issued this exhortation. 2 Tim. 1:7 (KJV) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and love, and of a sound mind. 2 Tim. 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Finally, let's remember Peter, who denied Christ three times and was finally given the charge to "Feed my sheep" by his Savior and Lord. Peter had this reminder about courage that comes from Christ. (KJV) 1 Peter 3:13 And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?
Let us seek God's grace and ask Him to give us the courage and the wisdom and love we need in dealing with the challenges of the world and in sharing His love and grace with everyone we meet.
Let us strive to honor God by serving others.
Your brother in the Lord Christ Jesus, T.S.K. - D.A.D.
