On the surface: Mary, much like many of her pokemon, is rather timid and gentle by nature. She is not someone you would suspect to go on the road and travel with pokemon. However, she also has a fiery passion hidden in her mind towards her pokemon. She is protective of them, sometimes even avoiding battling or going into the grass to make sure they are harmed. However, she also trains them when she can, keeping them strong enough to defend themselves. She is very kind when it comes to other people as well, always willing to help them and talk to them. However, she can also become shy very quickly and cower away when she senses criticism or conflict.
But deep down: Born and raised in Fortree City, Marylou learned at a young age to live with pokemon equally. Her mother planted berries while her father was a local scientist at the Weather Institute. Siince her father was naturally busy most of the time, Mary spent her days helping her mother and her mother's pokemon plant berries. But she also loved to have a solo adventure here and there. She and her mother's Tropius would go out together and explore. With Tropius' help, Mary learned how to climb some of Fortree's biggest trees without a ladder. Because of this, she was called a monkey. She didn't enjoy the nickname all that much, but she lived with it. In all honesty, Mary didn't have many friends growing up, which may have caused her shy nature. But that shyness didn't stop her. Her mother and father, seeing that she was quite the adventurous girl at heart, gave her a Skitty when she was ten, the average age everyone normally started to really get their own pokemon. Over the process of six years, both Mary and what is now her male Delcatty nicknamed "Dino" have managed to capture several other pokemon. The two have become close over the years, and they enjoy the new friends they have made, but they never once thought of leaving home. Then one day, Mary's mother had passed away from an illness. Her father decided to go to work 24/7, leaving Mary and her pokemon alone. After a while, and seeing various trainers going out to explore, she too decided that she would leave Fortree once and for all.
