The pale hind known as Echo was returning to a river she had traveled to a few times before. Typically it was to go play with the frogs, but today it was for a different reason. With a skip in her step, the young female made her way through the trees towards the waters edge. From there on she searched the banks for the hart she had encountered the last time she had made her way here. It was purely chance that she might be here at the same time the hart might decide to make his way here, but she didn't have any other option if she wanted to converse with the interesting looking herla again.

She was curious as to what other stories he knew and what life was like looking as he did. Did the animals think he was a croc or did they recognize him as a herla? She hoped to have these questions answered.

It was almost as if he were lurking there in the river, simply waiting for something (or someone, in this case) to come and find him there in the water. For once he was unaccompanied, save for the frogs that sat perched atop his shoulders and outstretched neck. The young gator sat very still until he heard the sound of approaching hooves, his ears flicking up with interest. Was that her? When Echo made her way up to the river bank not too far from where he was currently relaxing, the young buck stood up, making the frogs scatter back into the water, shaking his pelt free of the water he was soaked in.

"A-Ah, Echo! It's good to see you! I was hoping you would come..." The dark-headed hart clawed his way up onto the bank and dipped his head in respect, his ears flattening to the side with his habitual act of submission. Flicking his tail behind him, the buck sent water droplets flying behind him with an unexpected speed. There was no mistaking that Aengus possessed a hidden strength in the small things that he did subconsciously, but there was no way in the world that he'd do anything to even harm a fly.

As her eyes laid upon the gator like herla, glistening with water droplets, Echo was amazed. Small rainbows were cast off the water as it flew through the air and for a moment she was dumbfounded beyond words. As Aengus spoke Echo's wits seemed to return about her, at least enough for her to repeat what he said.

"It's good to see you. I was hoping you would come." She shook her head, a smile appearing on her face. "I'm really happy that you're here." She giggled, starting to bubble over with happiness. "I figured it was a small chance, but... Here you are!" She dips her head in return, then promptly begins to trot around excitedly in a circle with a bounce in her step.

Slowly she recollected the purpose as to why she was here and with a blush in her cheeks she stopped to look at him. "I had some questions to ask you. I hope you don't find this rude, but i was wondering how all the animals react to you? I bet you blend in really well! I'm really jealous of how you look." She giggled, swaying from side to side, her tails lagging behind her.

Ah, there she went copying his words again. Aengus thought it was rather charming, the way she followed the myth so closely, and nearly lost himself in the sweet look on her face when she spoke again. "Oh? Questions?" It was when the doe finished said questions that the young gator's tail swished gently behind him, his eyes softening to the thought of his own father's trials and tribulations with his own looks. While the pale buck had never experienced anything like Famine had, he certainly understood the way that the swamp animals warmed up to their family so quickly.

"N-No! It's not rude at all. It's something that others wonder about, I assume... But ah, yes. I blend in... Rather well. I am often mistaken for a swamp creature if someone is not paying attention, but not as badly as my father and my sister. They are sometimes mistaken for ghavials, but that's very rarely since no one ever really comes out to where we live in the swamp..." Pawing at the ground with his hind claws, the buck sighed, though he perked up almost immediately to keep Echo from worrying. "B-But now I know that you don't live too far away..! S-So... I can come out and... ah... See you whenever..."

Echo flushed, concerned that she might have hurt his feelings. It could've been a sensitive topic with him, which she hadn't considered. She never had had any problems with her appearance, confident due to coming from a family renowned for it's beauty. She looked him over, finding his scales to be beautiful. But, as he described how his family was view she couldn't help but sigh. Life didn't seem to be easy even though the animals clearly were at ease with him.

"I'm sorry that people find your sister and dad frightening... But! I wish i was like you guys! I'd love for the animals to think i was one of them. It'd be great if they'd approach me without my having to coax them." Her head tilted as she watched his behavior. "I'm sorry if i made you sad or anxious."

At the mention of further meetings Echo's eyes lit up and she practically bounced in place. "Yes! I can come out and see you whenever too!"

So she wished she was like his family? How strange, he thought, his father and mother seemed to portray the fact that they were undesirable in looks and knew it, which was why they avoided other herla quite often to keep from exposing their children to unkindness. But here Echo was, a pretty young doe, wishing that she more closely resembled the swampy gator family. Something twisted oddly in his chest, and it made his voice hiccup when he spoke next.

"I... Well... The animals just don't notice me, that's all. They think I'm part of the earth. Sometimes lizards will play with Catriona because of her looks. The animals think she's pretty." Aengus blinked when he heard the hind admit to being able to come and see him whenever, almost thinking he had misheard her.

"Wha... You can? Y-You will?" A wide smile pulled at his maw, displaying those rather sharp teeth of his in a positive grin. "W-We can come and have lunch together every day..! D-Do you like fish, Echo?"
