Extra: The Kokurai family are naturally militaristic and, in an attempt to keep their second child alive after the first met his end early in life and low on the food chain, they enforce the rule “Silence is Golden until your Tongue is Silver.” Hiruma has been forced to undergo rigorous training since his early childhood, and has been forbidden from speaking outside of his household. This keeps him from incurring others' ire in the Dirge, and keeps his heart beating.
Fatal Flaw: Sworn to Silence – The mask he wears is a testament to his refusal to speak. Until the day comes where his “Tongue is Silver” or he is high enough on the food chain to not be an easy casualty, the crossed mask will remain and his voice unheard outside of few.

Takeru Kokurai – Father – Head of the family and the one who has been training Hiruma most of his life. The father and son share more of a professional bond than a familial one, due to the main role Takeru has played in Hiruma's life.
Amaya Kokurai – Mother – Hiruma's mother, who he shares a closer personal bond with than his father. Hiruma would seek her out for comfort after his father's harsh training.
Kaito Kokurai (Deceased) – Died at Age 13 (when Hiruma was 5) during a fight in The Dirge. He learned the harsh way how the food chain works.
Kekkei Genkai: Kuroi Inazuma – The Kekkei Genkai of the Kokurai clan comes from generations of Lightning-affinity ninja striving to evolve their clan in order to ensure their survival. Kuroi Inazuma is the trademark of the Kokurai family – the basis for all their clan techniques and styles. Their bloodline is a simple one – the chakra affinity is strong enough to cause a constant flow of electricity circuiting through each member's body, allowing them to act as a chakra-battery for electrical energy and take minimal damage from outside lightning-based attacks.
Life's story: Mind your business, watch your mouth. Growing up in the Dirge teaches harsh lessons young in life, and hopefully you're fortunate enough to learn them second-hand. The ones that don't usually aren't there after their “education”. Hiruma had to learn the harshest lesson, the food-chain and your place in it, from watching his brother killed – no, slaughtered would be a better word – by a far stronger ninja. Yea, he shouldn't have been a loud-mouth, but cutting it off was a bit much, wasn't it? Needless to say, Hiruma's upbringing shifted pretty drastically after that point. His father – who used to only have his 'serious' days, suddenly developed a huge stick in his posterior and ran the kid ragged. There were no days purely for rest, and no days where he wasn't reminded of how weak he really was. Hiruma was forbidden to even speak outside of his home, and if he wasn't at least able to complain to his mother there, he'd have gone crazy far before now. Finally, he's reaching an “acceptable” level of skill where he's at least allowed in public without a watcher...well, an obvious one at least.

Nero was glad she didn't continue to pester him about the details of his handiwork. It wasn't that he lacked pride in his deeds – he was fully proud of what he had done – but the fact that if he began a rendition of his deeds, the azure flames may begin to rise from their ashes and his bloodlust return. Seeing her disappointed expression, he couldn't help but smirk. She had the most adorable pout, not that he would ever inform her. He watched her eyes as they seemingly traced the outline of his face, traveling over his features like she was evaluating him.
Well, he hoped she liked what she saw. He wasn't exactly young by any stretch of the imagination, but he was well-kept for his age. Constant physical training kept his body and features youthful, but his age was easily discernible as older from a few key points. His hair, although lengthy, was also silver. Most might attribute his coloration to age, but that would actually be a mistake. This was natural for him. Although in his early youth he had a black mane, around the time of his powers awakening his hair slowly lightened into the shade it was today. What truly spoke volumes about his age was his gait. He walked with the confidence of a trained fighter, not the arrogance of youth. His manner of walking was not something you could easily imitate without years of having it hammered into you. Most people would overlook something like this, but he had been taught to never overlook anything that could provide insight into an enemy or ally.
