A little personal history: Odette was born the only child of a great king, and her mother died shortly thereafter. She was one of the loveliest maiden in all of the kingdoms, which earned her the attention of Rothbart, who wanted to use her visage on his daughter, Odile. To do this, he transformed Odette into a swan, only to become human again during the night when the moon was out, or if she was to receive a love confession from a man with a pure heart.
Stuck stranded in a forest lake, Odette thought herself stuck to her fate. That was, however, until Prince Sigfried found her just as she transformed into her human self at sunset. They caught sight of each other and fell in love. Prince Sigfried promised to profess his love for her at his birthday ball the next evening, and she agreed to go. Unfortunately, she didn't realize that there would be no moon.
The night of the prince's ball, many maidens wanting his love attended, including Odile using Odette's looks. Unfortunately, Sigfried couldn't tell the difference. Odette, in swan form, flew to one of the palace's windows just in time to hear the prince profess his love to the imposter. In tears, Odette flew away. It was at this time that the evil queen, Regina, set forth the curse, saving Odette from her heartache temporarily.
In the town of Storybrooke, Odette is now Diana White, dance instructor. She has taught many young girls the art of ballet. Before the curse broke, she never had to worry about becoming a swan, though she had the grace and beauty of one. Since the curse broke, she has reverted back into the swan-curse, hoping for the day that she can reunite with Sigfried and tell him the truth of who he had confessed to.
Roleplay Sample: It was moments before dusk, and Diana -no, Odette- sat at the edge of the creek flowing under the old toll bridge. Her feathered body trembled as the swan woman tried time and again to force herself to transform back into her original, human form. Her black, button eyes squeezed shut as tightly as her bird eye-muscles could as she tried imagining her body elongating, de-feathering, into her human visage.
"You can do it. Concentrate!" cheered Ruby, the werewolf and one of Diana's more unlikely friends. As one of her natural predators, the swan had been beyond reasonably cautious in regards to the wolf shapeshifter, avoiding Granny's from the moment the curse broke. Eventually, amazingly, and through many mutual friends, the two became friends, Ruby promising that she would never harm a single feather on Diana's bird body. Ruby also insisted on teaching her how to control the transformations, meeting for many sessions, including this one.
As the sun slowly started its descent, Diana felt the familiar magic promising to release her from this feathery cage and give her what she wanted. Her skin tingled as it stretched, muscles growing and changing. Dark, soft hair replaced the feathers on the crown of her head, eyes taking on a more ocean-like hue beneath their lids. Her eyes fluttered open as she looked from herself, then up to the sun's final wave good-bye. She smiled brightly. "I did it! I changed myself before dark!" she beamed, jumping up from her sitting position on the shore.
Diana pranced excitedly over to Ruby and the two hugged and laughed. "Good job, Ana," Ruby praised. The two let go, Diana still giggling, Together, they strolled to Granny's Diner for two, well-earned slices Diana's favorite pie.
