Ruby picked up the phone and dialed Peyo's latest baby-sitting victim. "Hello, Gino? This is Ruby, dear." Gino immediately became slightly nervous, but tried to keep his trembling voice calm and polite. "Oh, uhm...h-hello Ruby. What can I do for you?" He crossed his fingers right away. "Oh, well I was wondering if you could do a small favor by baby-sitting Peyo tonight!" Ruby answered smiling. To her it seemed that Peyo would like Gino, with him being The Masque and all. Gino flinched, remembering the last time he baby-sat Peyo, how Peyo had happily entertained himself by going quack for hours and driving him crazy. By the time Ruby came home, he had been reduced to tears. "Uhm, gee Ruby. I wish you had told me sooner. I have an engagement tonight that I can't put off. I'm sorry." Gino quickly lied. Ruby sighed. "Oh, okay. Thank you Gino. Good night." Ruby hung up the phone thinking who else could baby-sit Peyo for the night.
A fast thought came to her mind. It seemed a long shot, but to her it was worth the try. She needed this night for herself. She picked up the phone and quickly dialed. As it rang, she was sure that she had chosen correctly. What could go wrong? "Hello?" said a strong male voice on the other line. "Oh, hello Liam!" Ruby chirped happily. "Yo, Ruby! What's up?" Ruby giggled at the way he spoke. "Well, I was wondering if you could do me a small favor. It would make me so happy if you did this small thing for me!" She knew she was leading him on and hoping he took the bait. "Of course babe! Anything for you." Liam answered hoping this favor would bring him closer to Ruby. "If it's no trouble, could you baby-sit for Peyo tonight?" She waited in suspense for an answer. "Sure, it's no problem! How much trouble could the kid be? You got yourself a baby-sitter." Ruby laughed triumphantly, "Oh, thank you so much Liam! I'll see you tonight! Ok, bye." Ruby sighed with relief and decided to tell Peyo the good news.
Liam stared at Peyo, and Peyo stared blankly straight back at Liam. Rufus, who was staying with Ruby and Peyo while Ian was away, lay sleeping on Peyo's lap. "So," Liam dared to break the silence. "How 'bout we watch some T.V.?" He turned on the television to the Playboy channel and sat back. "I can't watch that!" Peyo covered his hands over his eyes, and Rufus, who had just decided to wake up, yawned and imitated Peyo like a shadow. "Oh." Liam said a bit embarrassed and annoyed. "Well, what do you want to watch?" Peyo peeked out from under one hand at Liam, then at the T.V. and said "The Kiki Kitty Show." Rufus barked in agreement, yet Liam kept cool. "Kiki Kitty isn't on at this hour," he said glad that it was a morning show. There was no more annoying kid's show he could think of than Kiki Kitty. It was a show about the adventures of Kiki Kitty, an all white kitten, who would get in to trouble with his cousin, an all black kitten named Coco, and then always get out of it after commercial break. Peyo and Rufus jumped off the couch. "I have the movie, the musical!" Peyo shouted happily. As Peyo and Rufus quickly ran to retrieve the movie, Liam slapped himself at the idea of having to watch the movie.
After sitting through two hours and a half of singing kittens, three hours if you counted Peyo's forcing him to sing along with the credits, Liam would do anything to get Peyo and Rufus to sleep. Peyo and Rufus yawned, "I'm hungry." Liam jumped up eagerly, "Your mom left you dinner. She said to just heat it in the stove." Liam strutted into the kitchen and put on an oven mitt and winked at Peyo, who instead stood in the doorway. Rufus, on Peyo's yawning que, had crept outside, towards the back of the house, to the gas controls, and shut it off. Liam tried in vain to light the stove, but for the stubborn flame just wouldn't light. "Hmm? What's wrong with this thing?" As a last attempt, Liam turned the stove on high. Unknown to Liam, at that moment, Rufus had also turned the gas on high, too high. Flames jumped from the stove and caught the oven mitt. Liam panicked and screamed, flailing his hand in the air, making the fire grow brighter and the burns worse. Hearing Liam's scream, Rufus barked in triumph, turned the gas back to normal, then ran to the next lever and turned off all the cold water in the house.
Peyo stood watching Liam with indifference in his eyes. Liam rushed to the sink and furiously turned the cold water on high and shoved his flaming hand under the faucet. Shooting out of the faucet at full speed came steaming hot water. Liam screamed in pain, tearing the oven mitt from his hand and wrapping his throbbing and red right hand in his shirt he dropped to his knees and crotched over, shaking and sobbing in agony. Outside, Rufus barked again, turned back on the cold water rushed inside. Peyo, who had stood silent for so long, spoke up, "Maybe you should use the microwave?"
As Liam lay on the floor in the fetal position with tears running down his face, Peyo, with Rufus following his every step, walked into the bathroom, pulled out a small first aid kit, walked into the kitchen and sat it down next to Liam, then walked back into the living room and pressed rewind on the VCR, and sat on the couch waiting for it to stop. Liam breathed heavily as he applied first aid to his burned and scorched hand. He angrily threw Peyo's dinner in the microwave and just as he had turned it on, yet it short circuited in less than 15 seconds. "What now?!" Liam said out loud to himself. Peyo wandered back into the kitchen and stared for moment quickly thinking to himself.

"Can't you fix it? Mommy said you work with robots!" Peyo's eyes grew wide with excitement, almost as if he were admiring Liam. Liam puffed out his chest. "I sure do! Of course I can fix it!" Liam pulled out a screw driver and began unscrewing the face plate of the microwave and prodding around. Peyo watched in anticipation. He loved fireworks. Rufus snickered and snuck away again outside, this time to the fuse box. He opened and flipped the main switch and suddenly all the power in the house turned off. Liam looked around, "Hey! What happened?" Peyo pretended to whine and acted out his part well. "Ahhh.. Liam, I'm scared! Fix it! Fix it now! Waahh!!" "Ok! Ok!" Liam immediately began prodding the microwave again with his screwdriver dangerously close to a few electric circuits. Waiting for a few moments, Rufus flipped the power on again and jumped at the light show that came afterwards. "AHHH!!" Peyo's eyes opened wide in amazement as Liam lit up like a light bulb and sparks flew from the microwave.
Liam flew backwards onto the floor with a loud crash as his body kept twitching like a live wire. Laughing inside, Peyo yawned as he began planning a new way to torture Liam. "I'm sleepy. Nighty night." He walked out the kitchen, leaving Liam on the floor and went upstairs to his bedroom. In his room, Rufus was waiting for him with a little black book that belonged to Ian. The duo smiled at each other as Peyo took the book from Rufus and with the house phone in his hand, he dialed the first number that was listed under 'M.' "Hello, Moira here." No answer. "Hello?" Peyo hung up the phone and waited. Minutes after, he heard the phone ring in the kitchen.
Liam stared at the phone menacingly. He cautiously answered it. "Hello?" "Liam? What are you doing calling this hour of the night? Are you at Ruby's place?" Liam quickly gulped but tried to casually laugh it off. "Moira! Heh, hey babe! Ruby asked me to baby-sit Peyo, with Ian not around and all." "Oh, that's so sweet of you Liam!" Peyo clicked on the phone and had decided he had enough of listening to their conversation and clicked over to three-way calling. Both Liam and Moira heard the click and dialing and ringing but before Liam could hang up, Vanessa's voice was heard on the phone. "Hello, Durem Salon, this is Vanessa speaking." "Vanessa!" Liam yelled in disbelief that both Moira and Vanessa were both on the line. "Liam? I've been meaning to call you. Are we still on for our date Friday night?" "Date!?" It was now Moira's turn to be shocked. "Liam, you're going out with Vanessa too?!" "Moira? Is that you? What do you mean by 'too?' Liam?" Hearing anger in Moira's and Vanessa's voice, Liam panicked. "Well, Vanessa, you know I care about you!" "What about ME!?" Moira yelled, just waiting to hear the answer. Vanessa was intrigued as well. "Well, Moira, you know I love you." The phone exploded in angry yells of women and threats of bodily harm, specifically castration. Then the line went dead as they both agreed to harm him and hung up at the same time. Liam's face was completely white. All that could be heard was laughter somewhere on one of the ends of the phone.
At first Liam thought he was going crazy. Then the laughter became clearer. That bratty kid and that damn cat! "Damn you!" He yelled through the phone before slamming it down. Peyo, who had been laughing uncontrollably in his room and listening to the conversation suddenly shot up straight and through a worried glance at Rufus. "Uh-oh." Rufus looked wide eyed in fear as sounds could be heard of Liam storming through the house and closer to the stairs. "Wait till I get my hands on both of you!!" Peyo quickly scrambled to his toy chest and pulled out a huge tin box. Rufus ran to the closet and pulled out an assortment of toys. Liam began stomping up the stairs. "Wait!" Peyo ran to the hallway and stood on top of the stair well. "Don't take another step! Or else!" He pulled out a toy gun and held it to his head. "Don't make me!" He yelled in pretend fury. "Oh please, kid!" Liam continued barging up the steps. "I warned you. Rufus!"
At Peyo's call, Rufus appeared on the side of him with the tin box and opened revealing Peyo's extensive marble collection. He poured it down the stairs and watched Liam opened his mouth in shock at his forgetfulness of the oldest gag in the book. Liam lost his slip and tried holding onto the bare walls in vain as he fell backwards and down the stairs, landing painfully flat on his back. Peyo fell to his knees laughing. "Wait till I get up kid!" "I don't think you'll be going anywhere anytime soon," thought Rufus as he pushed Ruby's size 14 bowling ball to the stairs and let it fall. Hearing loud crashes on the stairs, Liam looked up in horror at what was coming. Rufus and Peyo, who had stopped laughing long enough to watch the grand finale, looked on as the bowling ball dangerously gained momentum. A sickening sound was heard, followed by three long hisses of pain as the bowing ball landed heavy and snug in Liam's crotch.
Liam cried from the pain and let himself pass out a few moments later. Peyo hopped down the stairs two by two and decided to land on the bowing ball then the floor with Rufus following suit. They both skipped into the kitchen to treat themselves to a dinner of ice cream, root beer and Lucky Charms cereal. Two hours later Ruby came home and found Liam sleeping on her floor surrounded by marbles (Peyo had removed the bowling ball on his way to bed), Rufus and Peyo snuggly in bed and her kitchen a mess of ice-cream floats. Upon checking her phone messages, she also found out that someone had also called twice to Durem, once to the Salon and another to the shopping district, but not to H.R. Wesley.
Her face became dark and cloudy as she reached down and slapped Liam in the face with the back of her hand. "Liam! Look at my kitchen! Look at my house!" Liam came too and stared up at the furious Ruby. "Ruby! It was that kid!" Ruby slapped him again. "Don't you dare blame this on Peyo! You know how shy he is around new people!" "But Ruby!" Liam slowly got up, his face wincing in pain. "You have to believe me!" "I also received a call from Moira of what's been going on here! I can't believe you!" Ruby had heard from both Moira and Vanessa well all about Liam?s reputation. She almost didn't believe it until she heard it from Josie when she visited Liam once in Aekea. "Get out of my house! Get out of my house NOW!" She was infuriated. "But Ruby!" Liam himself was now getting angry. "Dammit woman! Listen to me! It was that damn b*****d kid!" He pointed upstairs and stared back at Ruby with an attempt to scare her.
A whimper was heard from the stairway as Peyo looked up at Liam with genuine tears in his eyes. There had always been speculations of his father and nothing hurt him more than that burden on him and his mother. "Peyo!" Ruby turned to her son with her eyes full of compassion. Peyo refused to stay and ran back upstairs slamming his door hard enough to shake the whole house. Ruby turned to Liam with a death stare and dangerously whispered her words to him. "How dare you." It was all she said before she punched Liam swiftly in the mouth without warning. Liam held his jaw in disbelief as he was being manhandled by a woman. Ruby grabbed Liam by his collar and dragged him out of the house, closing the front door behind her. She punched Liam in the jaw again then in the stomach. A last time, she punched Liam again square on the chin with an uppercut knocking him out on the pavement by the side of her house. Ruby walked back to her home and slammed the door closed. She decided Peyo needed no more baby-sitters for a while, just her, his mom.
It was early in the morning when Liam came to. He found himself tied to a stake in some warehouse in a back alley in Durem and a pair of burning blue eyes staring at him and smiling maliciously. "Batneko!" He about wet his pants as he woke up to the familiar scene. "Hello Liam." Batneko spoke to him in a sickening sweet voice but her nature always revealed her thoughts of him to be those of hatred and disdain. "Batneko! Please! I've had a rough night!" He attempted to plead with her but it was not to her whom decided his fate. "Oh but Liam, your day is about to get even rougher. All of Gaia has heard of your night!" Her eyes turned from a clear and calm blue to a fire burning red, her pupils no longer visible. "Poor Peyo. You really are an a*****e Liam! Fortunately for you, I won't be the one to bring you pain today." Liam sighed in relief. Screw the rest of Gaia. There was nothing they could do to him.
"Moira, Vanessa and surprisingly Leon have donated generously to the L.A.A. They'll be your 'company' for today." Batneko grinned wide, her smile striking fear into Liam's heart. "Leon? Leon! But he's the guard!" Liam couldn't believe even Leon, who might be pushy but was generally passive would want him harmed. "Yes Leon. He and Ruby were a really sweet couple back in the day. This was before you arrived to Gaia of course. Leon is quite protective of Ruby and Peyo as well. I'm sure you'll have fun Liam." Batneko cut her eyes at him and disappeared in a thick black mist before his eyes. Liam looked around and thrashed at his bonds in vain as three figures came closer and closer to him.
