Melvin had been occupying his time with the concepts of fear and artifacts as applied to current artifacts they used. He was just following very simple tests right now, trying to really peel away at what was going on. What he hoped was to make something small powered by something very little. The best way to experiment was, of course, the most disposable sort of fear they had that was living - minipets.
Inside a tank sat one very annoyed looking treat, looking around and waiting for the food it thought it was getting. Various tubes and cables were connected to the box, plugged in to off-white machines with loud motors and tiny displays that didn't show all of the numbers or letters correctly. You got what you got when you were scavenging for equipment.
Standing beside a machine that sat on the ground and was tall enough to reach Melvin's waist, the Lifer was inspecting a very distressing buzzing sound that had started inside one of the machines. It....should be fine. Yeah. Nothing to worry about.
He'd just return it back later before it caught on fire.

No word of a lie, Dorian was here because he had accepted the random request of a Mist personelle to assist in some kind of Life experiment. It seemed like a running theme for Life. They did science, science generated s**t, Misties usually had to keep an eye on all the science!s**t that came from it.
Regardless, Dorian actually happened to like science!s**t, it was either usually really invigorating to watch, or very annoying, and messy. So who knows what would happen.
Clearing his throat a little, he rapped on the door loud enough for the Lifer to hear him, giving him a little gloved wave. "Allo. I 'eard you need a pair of spare 'ands, oui?" He offered up, going to wave his hands in the air when he mentioned them, before putting them down, hoping he'd be educated before any fancy science!s**t started.

Melvin was hitting his fist on top of the machine to try and get the display to work when he heard the voice, Standing up, he spun around, expecting another Lifer to yell at him for damaging the already damaged equipment, but was relieved when it was someone else. "Oh, right. Yes. I sent a request. I need someone to man a few machines while I test something."
He glanced at the machine, which let out a low whine, before walking over to him. "You didn't see that." He mentioned quickly before making sure the door was shut behind him.
"Have you worked in the labs before?" He asked, walking back to the table where the minipet, locked in it's tank, was looking about.

Dory was pretty sure that what the other hunter was doing wasn't entirely scientific in it's procedure, but who was he to complain if it actually worked. He may have been cocking his eyebrow just a little at the whole sight, but honestly, Dory did stupider s**t in his personal time, he was sure.
Clearing his throat a little, he considered the man's question. "Ehh, 'ere et there when I was a younger man. Mostly in school, I admit." He offered to Lifer, offering a hand out quickly. "Dorian Côté, I will be your Mist trainee today. Most people call me Dory." Introductions should be done, before science, he figured.
Looking to the little creature in the tube, his eyebrow quirked again just a bit, but he wasn't sure if he was supposed to ask questions.
"As long as you tell me w'at to do, I will 'elp as well as I can." He figured.

He looked at the offered hand for a moment before reaching out to shake it. Despite wearing black gloves all the time to avoid skin on skin contact, he tended to be put off on shaking hands on the principle of hands being the filthiest part of a person's body most of the time. Still, his father raised him to shake hands and show respect, and he did this in kind. "I'm Melvin Wood."
Releasing, he went back to checking a meter. "Basic Biology or chemistry I'm guessing. Alright, we're not messing with any of that. There are two machines I'm letting you watch. One has a lever that will need to be pressed down if it overheats because I am not paying for a replacement and it's pretty much ancient anyways."
He moved around, showing two bulky machines side by side with various meters and buttons with odd symbols and plastered with runic symbols. "I need to monitor Fear output and transfer. This lever here - see this one? - I need you to pull it down when you see this meter here - up here - when it goes into this red bit, pull that lever." He looked at him as if he was unsure he understood. You never knew what type of person you would get when you requested help, and a few felt overwhelmed just standing in the labs, let alone being responsible for anything.
"I can go over it again if you want me to."
