"Politically Correct Bedtime Stories: Modern Tales For Our Life & Times" by James Finn Garner.
It's satire, and very funny at that. Although, it's a bit tiring even when knowing that it's only satire. You can only stand so many chapters in one sitting. The book is potentially offensive, being that it makes fun of being politically correct. That's actually the point of it. It is funny, however, and certainly a good read.
That sounds like a great read! I've been listening to the Ranger's Apprentice series on the computer for the past couple of weeks. The story is ok, but the writing is redundant and boring. Every main character is outstanding at something, their weapons are amazing, their horses are superior to every other breed, everyone "accepted his/her fate philosophically" (the phrase comes up once a chapter almost), and you know exactly what every single character is thinking all of the time. No guesswork, no critical thinking, no social analysis. But alas, I started them, so I'm gonna finish them. The first and last book I stopped reading in the middle simply because it was too exhausting was Twilight, and I consider that a special circumstance. I'm sure I'm going to alienate someone with that statement, but I'm sorry, I don't think that woman should be left alone with a pen.

►►I finally bought The Lord of the Rings on my tablet. I'm reading it, yet again, but this time I'm going through and highlighting and making notes of interesting parts that have foreshadowing, or multiple meanings. Its quite enjoyable to have a firm understanding of the story from reading it so many times before, but paying so much closer attention to detail this time. I might even post some of my notes in the guild.◄◄
"Fortune's Fool" by Mercedes Lackey I'm a huge fan of Lackey's books. For those who are not familiar with her, the book that I'm currently reading is part of a series called "Tales of the Five Hundred Kingdoms." This series is set in a world where 'The Tradition' is a force of destiny that pushes people into fairytale situations based on what route their life is on. For instance, in the case of a young woman who has been taken in by her step family and not treated well, the Tradition will push this young woman into a marriage with a young prince, assuming there is one nearby of an appropriate age. Lackey's books in this series cover both commonly known tales (the aforementioned Cinderella, though that's not exactly how the book plays out since there is no prince of an appropriate age) and lesser known ones. "Fortune's Fool" so far seems to be a combination of a "Little Mermaid" type tale and one that I can't quite put my finger on. Either way, I need to build up my Lackey library because this is one of only two of her books that I own.

►►I LOVE the Five Hundred Kingdom's! Fairy Godmother is my favorite, but I have many others to read. Christmas money will probably go to purchasing those. ^_^◄◄

Oh my gosh I love Fortune's Fool! And The Fairy Godmother is awesome as well. I absolutely love Mercedes Lackey's work, and I would love to own the whole collection.

I'm working my way through the complete Sherlock Holmes collection. I bought the Barnes & Noble leather-bound classic version, and it's beautiful, and I love it.

I've read a handful of her books, but with both yours and my master's approval of her work, I'll have to look into getting more of her books!

I love Sherlock Holmes! Which one are you on? I have the entire collection individually, but I've wanted to buy the B&N leatherbound one for a while too. It's so pretty! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle does such a great job portraying Sherlock and John's relationship. It's great! And, as an avid Sherlock fan, I love the BBC's interpretation of the collection!

I am currently reading " Cloaked" by Alex Flinn. I have read one of her books before and I enjoyed it so I decided to try out another one of her novels. Alex Flinn takes those classic fairy tales and puts an interesting twist on them. One of her books was even made into popular movie called "Beastly". You may have heard of it before. I prefer books but I did watch the movie and it was good.

I saw Beastly, but I haven't read the book. I love authors who rewrite fairy tales with their own little twist or play off of fairy tales but write completely different stories. My two favorite who do that are Robin McKinley and Mercedes Lackey.
