The Felled Heart stared down at the still pool, gazing at her reflection as she had seen Vainmoon do so many times during their time together. For Moon, it was his nature to be alone, except for his orbital stars and for Fallen, it was her nature to wander and to love, never to stay too long in one place because there was too much love in her heart that needed to be given away. Still, she missed him and this was a form of nostalgia, to gaze upon her lonely reflection in a pool that made her look wholly blue.

Then a leaf fell from a nearby tree and her reflection rippled away into nothingness.

She turned away from the pool to gaze into the sky, staring upon the moon she sighed fondly at the memories she had of Vainmoon before staring into the trees, imagining that perhaps she would find another fated love tonight. It would be fate, after all, that they should meet under the watchful gaze of one of her other loves and then wake together under the careful gaze of the sun, her father. She smiled then for the prospect of love warmed her heart.

User ImageThe moon itself was not romantic to The Morning and the Evening Star. He didn’t mind the moonlight, and rather enjoyed its company on a lovely night. But it was not her company he sought, no. Rather, he preferred… the gentler sort. The warmer sort. The moon was not a warm body on a cool night he could curl in his grasp.

And here, presented like a perfect little meal, was just the warm body he needed.

Her had been a lovely little thing. Strong will, compliant where needed. Mistaken for Closeness was a challenge, and oh, what a lovely challenge that had been. But challenges were only fun when you won, and it had indeed been a delicious victory.

So perhaps… perhaps it was a good thing this would not be a challenge. It was the way she lay, the way she gazed upon herself, that she did not wish to be alone.

He could provide an excellent distraction for such a lonely doe.

“Awful night to be alone. Particularly for a lovely bird like you,” Morning and Evening purred, pushing his way into the clearing. His body did not hold intimidation, no threat in his pose. No, she would be along willingly.

“Mind if I keep you company? It doesn’t have to be the evening. Just as long as you’d have me.”

She turned at his voice and as ever, always, inevitably, she fell in love. So different was he from her last frost love. He was fire and power to her pale, yielding spring. And so she yielded because that was her nature.

She had never learned to fight it, to fight love, and gave her heart so freely and with no compunctions that not a thing could ever hurt her. She was not Mimosa and his tragedy, the pain and hurt of love; she was his opposite, she reveled in it and was content even when the other no longer returned her feelings because she still had her own.

She sighed, and in that moment she knew perfection, "I would not deny you an eternity if you so wished."

And it was true though her heart would always seek an infinite number more.
