ROUND [2] Dark Female - Eauo.

[ Concept Contest Details ]
[1] Round 1 - December 11 - December 18 @ 8:00 pm PST
[2] Round 2 - December 18 - December 27 @ 9:00 pm PST

[ ROUND TWO ]

This female Sentinel seems particularly tough - what with those fangs and horns of hers - but is she really? That is for you to decide! She has the potential to be an Alpha Sentinel. Alphas are Sentinels that lead territory-oriented hunting packs. This position is usually roleplay-required; however, should the owner choose, this female can become an Alpha without fulfilling the usual requirements. (We will be sad should you choose not to roleplay her, though!)

MUST READ Information:

    • “Alpha” is a position designation like “chief” or “advisor”. Alphas do not have any special abilities beyond any other Sentinel.
    • She leads her own group of Sentinels but it's up to you to create/organize that group if you wish to do so. This is not required, but you DO have the option and we strongly encourage it!
    • The red markings on her hide can be interpreted to be paint, scars, or natural markings and will be passed on during breedings like any other marking.
    • All entries must follow Hearthside’s rules as well as all Gaia TOS.
    • You may not enter for someone else – you must intend to keep this pet if you enter for her.
    • Although roleplay is not required at Hearthside, Eauo will be VERY, VERY sad if this pet is never roleplayed. :c
    • We will be looking for believable characterization and history, attention to Hearthside roleplay settings and lore, and general mastery of writing. Be sure to spell-check!

ROUND ONE ENTRY

Sentinel’s Name: Old Blood

Prompt Response:

Old Blood.

His name and now his reality. It caked the skin of his neck and ran through his veins. Old blood. Too old to rule. He had to admit his body was tired and each new fight sapped at his strength. The pack saw it. Some watched him with pity, others with anticipation. It wouldn't be long now before another took his place.

The Sentinel crouched down beside the pool of fresh water his pack guarded jealously. He allowed himself a moment of peace; to close his eyes and let the water seep into the wound. Fights with their nearby rivals were common and Old Blood had faced off against the young enemy Alpha only one week past. He had triumphed in the end and driven them away (experience did count for something) but had paid the price.

The pack needed a leader that could fight. Old Blood wasn't sure that was him anymore. Perhaps one of his sons would take over. Bloodburn would be well suited for the task and he knew the younger male was eager for the task.

And what of him? The old leader standing aside for his son, no longer necessary. Just the thought of it made Old Blood grit his teeth and hiss in annoyance. He was past his prime but not useless. There was still fight in him yet.

Old Blood scratched carefully at the wound on his neck. It would never heal properly. Oh, it would get better certainly. Scab over properly and maybe it would stop oozing out pus, but it would always ache. Perhaps it would break open again whenever he got into a fight. Certainly the enemy would know where to strike.

The Alpha lifted his neck from the water, lapped up a few dainty sips and then stepped back.

His pack was a big one, constantly fighting for more food and water. Already it felt as if he no longer belonged.

So he simply had to leave.

He would find a new destiny.

OPTIONAL RESPONSES
Personality: They speak of his legendary temper and skill for battle in hushed tones, but those days are long past for Old Blood. He is now a shrewd older male, past his prime but not yet willing to roll over and die. Old Blood enjoys caring for friends and family and is more than willing to die to protect them if necessary.

Roleplay Plans:

The former leader of a large, dominant pack, Old Blood has since left them behind to forge a new path. While he doesn’t actually expect to survive for very long, I intend to have him meet a few other Sentinels (who will appreciate his life experience a bit more than his bloody-minded family) and start a new, smaller pack.

ROUND TWO ENTRY
Username: MoonstoneDazzle

Sentinel’s Name: Exile

Personality: Exile is a soul of great depth and consideration, though she shows very little on the surface. Her emotions are not apparent- she is not one to smile, or laugh, or even to show sadness. Occasionally a fellow sentinel she trusts may see this, but it is not easily given. Little ones, from her former life experiences, hold a soft spot in Exile's heart.

But when betrayed, Exile cannot muster up any sort of caring. She is not beyond killing young to ensure a tribe's failure, or spoiling food stores and stealing kills. It's as though she drains herself of all emotion- not even showing anger or sorrow. Frightening, but it just may be a defense mechanism to keep her sane in her fits of rage.

History: Once, Exile was a nanny. She had a different name, then- one she does not speak aloud. None who know her now have heard it. It is as though it were lost to time.

She cared for the young Sentinels- hatchlings of the pack whose parents were busy with the hunt. She was a singer of songs and a teller of stories, entertaining the young and even the old. Exile was not above caring for the elderly or sick as they fell, trying to give them peace when death took them.

When her former tribe fell to illness and panic, under the matriarch's poor leadership, Exile began plotting. She warned the others of the matriarch's folly, how she fed only herself and kept secrets from the tribe. What good was a leader- a friend- if they could not be honest and open?

But what was she to do? Exile was but a nanny, speaking against their leader.

When the matriarch learned of Exile's treachery, she was immediately barred from speaking with the little ones. There was a short imprisonment- the matriarch quickly bribed those who had known the shamed nanny into testifying against her. The trial was damning- death, or exile. Holding her head high, Exile took the mark of shame, and in turn gave up her name.

With her past and her home behind her, Exile- taking her new name with pride- set out into the wilds. She would form a new tribe- an equal tribe, where all were given opportunity and voices.

And the old matriarch would pay,

OPTIONAL RESPONSES
Her Goals/Motivation: Exile seeks to wrong the rights done to her in the past, leading by example and her well intentions. She wants her tribe to be a family- while there would be ranks and roles, simply for organization, no one sentinel would lord above another. The key would be no harmful lies- a family, after all, is built entirely on trust.

Meaning behind the Markings: Scars of her exile; they are meant to be a shameful insignia, for any sentinel that looks upon her.

Future RP Plans: A war with her former tribe (whose matriarch I would obtain for this), turmoil within the tribe over territory and over-hunting, emotional struggles on Exile's vengeance and what has made her so cold... tons of pretty potential for this girl! Someone discovering her old name and past could provide plenty of drama as well
