Jonas was born to Johnathan and Abigail Carter in Boston Massachusetts on March 7, 1939. His father fought in WWII from 1941 to 1945 (landed on Omaha Beach during D-Day) and shortly after his return, Abigail gave birth to Jonas' little sister, Jaimie-Lynn. Unfortunately, two years later, Jonas' mother died from the terrible disease known as tuberculosis. The loss hit the family hard, but after a while they managed to move on. Johnathan became a Government Lawyer and was able to support his family with no trouble.
Years went on and things were pretty much normal. Jonas got involved with a gang called The Pit-Vipers and he along with the gang would drink, smoke, have sex with girls, and other things that wouldn't be considered appropriate for a boy his age. One night, he was walking home from a party when he all of a sudden pulled into an alley-way and pinned up against the wall. When he got a good look at his attacker, Jonas noticed that his eyes were blood red and that fangs. Before he could say anything, the attacker bit into Jonas' neck and the feeling of he insides being on fire over came him. He screamed out in pain, but was quickly loosing energy just as his attacker dropped him on the ground. Jonas' vision became blurry and his insides still burned. He tried to get up but when he did, he fell back down but this time he was dead. When Jonas woke up from the dead, he found himself in a coffin six feet underground. Naturally, the boy panicked and started banging on the roof and screaming for someone to let him out. After a while, he finally heard a thud come from the outside of the coffin and it was finally opened. Looking up at his rescuer, he saw a man wearing a business suit with long raven black hair pulled back into a pony-tail. He also noticed his eyes were blood red. Remember his attacker, Jonas started to panic but the man explained that he was no threat. In fact, he was trying to help poor Jonas. He introduced himself as Lord Thaddeus Dunraven and then pulled the boy out of his grave. Jonas looked back at his tombstone which read, "Jonas Andrew Carter. Born: March 7th, 1939. Died: November 18th, 1956." Completely confused, Jonas looked up at Thaddeus hoping that he had some answers. The older man informed Jonas of his status of being a vampire. At first, Jonas didn't believe him but Lord Dunraven managed to prove his point. Knowing this, Jonas wanted to be back with his family but Dunraven stopped him, explaining that he would be endangering his family for recently turned vampires cannot control their thirst for blood. So Dunraven offered Jonas to stay at his manor in Salem. Seeing no better option, Jonas agreed to stay with the older vampire.
As the years passed, Dunraven taught Jonas how to control his instincts as well as discover and control his new abilities. After a while, at age 22, Jonas felt that it was time for him to go out on his own. Seeing that he has control over his instincts, Dunraven agreed but not before giving him an amulet enchanted by a witch that would allow him to be in sunlight without burning. Now on his own, Jonas felt like he needed some structure in his life. He joined the US Marine Corps in 1962 and became a sniper. When he was shipped off to Vietnam to fight in the war, he met Benny Stole and the two of them became good friends. They fought in the war for 3 years until Jonas, Benny, and the rest of their team were captured and held as POW's for nearly a year. Benny and the rest of the team died from starvation, and Jonas was forced to feed off of their corpses in order for him to survive. He was finally rescued but relieved from his duties because of severe PTSD. When he returned home, after months of therapy, he made the decision to finally find his family after eight long years. When he found them and told them what had happen, they didn't know what to think. Whether they should be sad or angry or scared, but all of that uncertainty disappeared when Jonas' father pulled him into a hug for the first time in almost a decade. Five years had gone by and everything, according to Jonas, was perfect. He was reunited with his family. He did have trouble holding down a job but that was expected for someone just out of the Vietnam war. Because of the events that took places while he was a POW, word spread through the supernatural world that he was indeed a vampire. One night, Jonas came home and found his father and sister being held captive by a gang of vampires. The leader stepped forward and Jonas immediately recognized him as his attacker from 1956. The vampire introduced himself as Obadiah and made his proposal to Jonas; either join him and choose who lives by drinking the other's blood or watch them both die. Apparently he couldn't make the choice fast enough because after about 30 seconds, two of Obadiah's henchmen clawed out both of their throats. In a fit of blind rage, Jonas attacked the group with everything he had. He managed to kill two of them but the rest escaped, including Obadiah. Cradling is sister in his arms as she bled to death, he swore to himself that he would kill that sonuvabitch if it was the last thing he do.
He would travel the country, looking for signs of any activity that would indicate where Obadiah was. He ended up killing countless vampire nests and other supernatural nasties whom threatened innocent lives, whether they'd be human or supernatural themselves. He was eventually dubbed with the occupation of a Hunter and because of the many vampires he killed in the sixteen years of being a Hunter, he was also given the name The Scourge of Vampires. Jonas was both feared an respected in both the human and the supernatural world. In 1987, he decided to visit Thaddeus after 26 years since he left. When he got there, he saw a similar situation that he witnessed 17 years ago. Somehow, Obadiah found out that Jonas was going to visit the elder vampire and managed to beat him to him. Holding a machete up to Dunraven's throat, he said to Jonas that he had taken to many lives that he held dear to him and now he was going to return the favour by making him watch as well. Before Jonas had time to react, Obadiah slashed the machete, taking Dunraven's head clean off his shoulders. Blinded by the same fit of rage he felt 17 years ago, Jonas attacked but this time he managed to kill Obadiah. He managed to kill the man who ruined his life, but at what cost. The only people whom he loved most in this world were dead, because he wasn't fast enough. Then he decided that it wasn't worth it anymore and he quit the hunting business. Besides, it didn't pay well anyway.
Two years had passed from that day, and Jonas felt like it time for him move on. He managed to land a mechanic job but he also decided to go to college and maybe get a degree. It wouldn't look too suspicious since even though he was really 50, he still look to be in his early 20's. For four years, he majored in Criminal Science and Law and graduated with his Bachelors Degree in both fields. Once graduated, he took classes which qualified him for his PI License, and from there he moved to New York and became a PI there and specialized in cases that were deemed "unusual". Six years had passed in the PI business and things were going pretty decent for Jonas. He then received a phone call from NYPD, asking him to consult for their latest murder case and offered to pay handsomely for his services. He agreed to the job and solved the case in record time, proving the murder was done by a rogue warlock. Seeing that these kind of murders are out there, the head of Precinct 12 offered Jonas a job as one of his homicide detectives. Jonas agreed to the job for two reasons. One, he actually had fun solving the murder case. And two, the pay-check was stable.
