She came by every day. Each time, my heart always skipped a beat when her shining brown eyes met mine. Her brown hair was braided into a crown which wound around her head, small wisps of that feathery hair escaping and creating a lovely halo effect. My eyes widened when she sent me a small smile; I hadn't realized that I had been staring and quickly averted my gaze. She probably thought I was creepy now. Good job, dude.
As I sipped my black coffee, I couldn't help but glance around the small cafe. She was at the register now, paying for her drink. The cashier asked her name for the order and she breathed it out as she always did.
"Charlotte."
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I really needed to work up the courage to talk to her. She never failed to look put together and fashionable. Today, for example, she was wearing a blue dress. But it wasn't just any blue dress; oh no. Not for Charlotte. It was mid-thigh in length with a square neckline and little cap sleeves. A darker blue ribbon encircled with area under her bust line (I felt myself blush at the thought) and below it a lace overlay of the same color made the dress look elegant and youthful at the same time.
I opened my eyes and nearly dropped my cup when I saw the object of my thoughts directly in front of me. I tightened my grip on the cup and tried to smile at her, my nerves acting up and making me blush in embarrassment.
"Hi. Is anyone sitting here?" Her voice was light and filled with an amusement at what I hoped wasn't my lack of coordination.
"No. No, go right ahead and take a seat, " I said, my own voice coming out hoarse and shaky. She gave me a small smile and placed her drink down on the table before pulling out the chair and sitting. Her five foot and some inches sank into the chair gracefully. Oh dear god; I was so going to screw this up.
"So...Come here often?" Charlotte's brown eyes twinkled in mirth as she laughed knowing, as well as I did, that I had noticed her.
...Maybe I had a chance after all.
