What's in the Box? #1
Lily twirled in ever quickening circles before the long floor length mirror she had just uncovered, fanning herself and making swooning motions with her thin freckled arms. She laughed and made faces at her own comical reflection in its wide brimmed hat with the tiny white roses and the long hand beaded wedding gown. Everything seemed almost magic in the dim light and the dust flying up from the floor with her playful movements. "I feel like a grown lady finally allowing my dashing prince to sweep me off into our future", she thought. Though the sleeves slipped down her shoulder and the hem trailed to the wooden floor, for a moment the magic of the dress took her. Then sighing, she touched the long red braids in the mirror and turned back to her task. With a whoosh of air and a spray of dust she removed yet another white sheet, uncovering a plain wooden chest. With a good deal of curiosity, she lifted up the lid, and....... What did she see?

...She let out an ear-splitting scream. Beneath the lid was a beautiful red dress, draped gently over the jostled bones of a deceased woman. The blood-stained skull rested atop the silky dress, seeming to stare at Lily despite the missing eyes. A glittering knife posed delicately between the mouth of the skull, like a rose in a dancer's mouth. Despite the cry she gave earlier, the noise now hung in her throat, unable to escape. She wanted to scream again, to release the horror caught in her chest like a heavy ball. Could this be real? Her hand shook, reaching slowly towards the skull. Her fingers just barely brushed against the rim of the orbit, which was rough and coarse. Only a second against the bone and she knew it wasn't a Halloween decoration, and a second scream erupted from her throat louder than the first.
