The main thread has gotten too big/fast/crowded for me to keep up with or be involved with. I don't do well with crowds. Or lots of new. And, let's be honest, I was never one to chat much as it is. I don't believe in divulging much personal stuff on forums, nor do I get very invested in other posters.
Might be that my time on Gaia draws short. But since I'm not quite ready to leave entirely, and am not terribly inclined to go exploring the forums, I'll just hang out here for a bit, I think. I'll post random musings and other tat that catches my interest that really doesn't fit the mood of the thread anymore.

Unless, of course, this doesn't really fit the intent of the guild and oughtta be closed. *shrug*

Today's musing. I'm going through my boxes of stuff, trying to reduce my possessions. And I think I've finally decided to get rid of my N64 stuff. Was just a controller, two games, and a memory card. Kept in the hopes that maybe one day I'd buy the system for myself. But, I have an emulator for it now. And can buy the games on the Wii if I desire. Actually, I do have one on the Wii already. Is sad to part with them, something I've had for so long. So long, in fact, that the controller, being wrapped up for years, the cord has left an indent in the plastic. Very long. I liked them when I was young, but they'll never be put to use again as long as I keep owning them.
Debating whether or not to sell my GBA and games as well. It's too small for me now, and no light doesn't help. And, again, already emulating I think all the games I have.

Still have all my PS1 stuff, though. Playable on my PS2. Even though I have an emulator for that even, I'm not ready to switch over the Final Fantasy's. Even though, it really shouldn't matter. All the great files I have, but I don't think I have any intention of actually going back to them. If I ever want to play the games again, I'm going to start from the beginning. It is just a bit silly to have so many save files. So many that I've recently taken to writing down just what each file is for/from, just to know why it's there. But, like so many other things, they're mostly just there to remember, and don't really have a use anymore.

This has been depressing old games thoughts from rpgamer. Living up to the name for once, at least.

And for anyone from the thread that doesn't know who I am... well, you probably know about as much about me as anyone else. One of the last few remaining regulars from years past.

Also, this is where I go to talk to myself. I do that sometimes.

Aww, RP, it's really tough to get rid of game systems/game or anything you've had for a long time that at one point, you enjoyed and put lots of time into it.

I also don't delete any of my saved game files. sweatdrop

I like this thread and I hope you don't mind if I come to visit. But if you do, please let me know and I'll just read quietly. whee heart

I have way too many pack-rat tendencies to do get rid of all my old game stuff...>.<

I have a few N64 games that I know I'll never play (they were community/my brother's games, and never interested me - fishing, etc), and a lot of my favorite games are gone because I foolishly thought they'd be safe if I left them at my dad's house (his fiancee chucked a bunch of stuff and somehow didn't think to ask if I wanted any of it =/ when I asked, I think my dad said it was because my N64 wasn't working at the time, which is why I brought them to my dad's in the first place...), but I do have a working N64 and some good games left (and like three or four controllers), so I don't see me getting rid of it anytime soon. :3

Pretty much the same situation with my Gameboy Color and Advance...>.< (minus the I-dislike-dad's-fiancee situation), but seeing as I have the uh...backlit GBA and a DS Lite that I can play those games on...>.>

I kinda wish my dad still had his Sega Genesis...I would happily have adopted it...>.<

Also, with the save file stuff... I'm pretty sure I would've played through the handheld Fire Emblem games a few more times, and Pokemon, if I were more readily able to delete save files. >.<;

I have some PS2 controllers and games around here somewhere, with vague plans of getting a new PS2 at some point. That point has yet to arrive...
Not all that many I would actually be interested in replaying, though. Probably easier to hunt down a decent emulator instead, especially as I, too, would be more inclined to replay them from the beginning than using old saves.

I'm happy for you to have this here, RP! I'm sorry you feel a bit lost in the main thread (I feel that way myself at times, and I'm in charge... at least, I think I'm in charge emotion_donotwant ).

I understand what you mean. I played games years ago, and even though I no longer do, I found it difficult to let go of all my games and consoles. Perhaps the most difficult things to say goodbye to were my two Dreamcast VMUs (memory cards), primarily because they held my character data for Phantasy Star Online, a game I played online with friends for years and probably put thousands of hours into levelling up, collecting rare weapons and evolving mags (the game's equivalent of virtual pets) and whatnot. All that time and effort in a tiny little white box. It makes you think, doesn't it? Or perhaps that's just me. Anyway, there's no going back to those days, so I deleted the data and sold the cards with the console, but... there were feels. emo

Aye. I'm mulling over my GBA now. It's a silly thing to keep. I have the games on my computer, they play just as well. Pretty much just as good. But my GBA is in such good condition. And I think I'm back in my "Maybe it'll get used at some point... right?" mode.
In the interest of reducing clutter, I should be rid of it. But for now, I'll hold on. Until the memories fade, maybe. Unless the pawn shop can give a good deal...

Right now, I'm chewing on the concept of Zero. Caused by this video. I didn't understand all of it. I don't know if anybody can. Kinda glazed over for most of it.

But the idea that zero is everything. The sum total of all things. It... actually jives well with some of my own beliefs.

Something I've heard far too much of is the creationist "argument" that god created order from chaos [and they go on that evolution is supposedly order from chaos and that that's not how the universe is supposed to work and more nonsense]. But that idea always struck me as wrong. This god took all of nothing [strangely being apart from it himself], and created the universe. I don't see that as order from chaos. The infinite nothing, that absolute void was perfect. The most perfect thing that ever couldn't exist. The most ordered thing in all of the non-universe. To create anything out of that is to impose an imperfection. Energy has to be put into a system to pull it away from nothing. Nothing is the most natural state of everything.

Nothing is not the absence of everything, but the total of everything, stretched to every infinity.

Zero is a lot to take in.

The concept of zero. xD

It was also cool when I learned about matter and anti-matter. Matter is created from nothingness because anti-matter is concurrently created.

Another quirky thing to think about. Every action has an equivalent reaction [in very basic terms]. To move up, you push down.
So... if we're moving forward in time [supposedly one of the dimensions], something has to be going in reverse, right?
In most things, your point of reference determines whether you're moving in a positive direction or a negative one. Driving -80 km/hr north just means you're driving south. [which is itself weird to think about considering you're still not moving on a single plane...]
So, time, like, you're moving forwards, but from what perspective?

I'm a bit in need of sleep. So none of this may be very coherent.

Also, don't know if anyone is gamer enough to have an opinion, but I don't think Chrono Trigger is as good as the hype would suggest. Maybe I'll go into detail once I have more sleep.

I played Chrono Trigger after the suggestion of my ex. I actually agree. I couldn't get into it.

I think the biggest thing that bugs me about it is the time travel and, just... how it's a little nit-picky about when to influence the future.

Near the start, it introduces the idea that events in the past can affect the future. Princess goes back in time, inadvertently causing probable death of ancestor, princess fades out of existence. Although the game isn't terribly clear about what exactly is happening, it still tries to explain it that way.

But then you're off to the future and discover the whole Lavos thing. And you're trying to stop it. And you even know the exact day when all of this occurs. So, y'know, first of all, you could just go back in time and start preparing everyone. You could bring back loads of tech from the future and get a jump start on advancement.
Somehow, the robot you got from the future doesn't fade out when you eliminate the possibility of that future.

I guess my biggest complaints just mostly boil down to lack of consistency with time travel. Which, is just a thing that happens with time travel, usually.
The story is ok. It's not great. But it's put together pretty well. But it's not as great as some would lead on.
