Idealist.org FairPlays (IOFACs)
Definition: A "fairplay" is a fun event for the public and for local nonprofits and other good causes. As many attenders as possible would take up to 5 minutes each to give a speech, demonstration, introduction, or performance, some educational, or informative, and some entertaining. FairPlays thus seek to introduce the community to local nonprofits and other good causes and to display local talents and interests.
Requirements:
- Fairplays require a comfortable space indoors or out and a chairperson, or emcee, to announce each attender's turn.
- For larger gatherings a microphone would also be helpful. Invitees can be asked to bring their own refreshments, unless a group wants to provide them, possibly for fundraising.
- Potential attenders would also need to be invited beforehand with details about the Fairplay.
Whom to Invite:
- The public, local nonprofits, churches, and other groups can be invited to send any of their members to participate. Anyone would be allowed to announce briefly during their presentations what their home groups may like to have announced.
Purpose: Inform, Educate, Entertain, Cooperate:
The purpose of FairPlays is to facilitate maximum information, education and entertainment. Members may give their presentations individually or in groups. Speeches may be informative, educational, and or entertaining. Performances are educational especially for performers. Performances may also be demonstrations, which are also educational for audiences. Cooperation is involved in preparing for Fairplays and "executing" them and in the meetings afterwards.
Time:
The fairplays can take one to two hours usually evenings or weekends.
