 The night was young and there wasn't an undead in the area... at least not the type he hunted. He was at a loss. He was raised a hunter by his father and other fellow Carpathian males. Even though they considered him a brother, he still felt outcasted. His mixed blood was unheard of. He couldn't see color and his heart felt heavy. Sapir touched the lake he was beside, creating little ripples in the water with no wind. He'd heard often that every male Carpathian had a lifemate. They either had them or the lifemates were not yet born or discovered. He wasn't as old as some of the ancients...but even he felt lifeless without his other half. He wasn't sure his existed.

 Luciana laughed as she ran through the woods toward the lake. The night felt alive, wonderful, and different for some reason. She couldn't help but let the happiness bubble up and out of her. She made it to the edge of the woods before she stopped suddenly. Someone sat by the edge of the lake. Someone with power. They felt like her, like a Carpathian, but yet different. She could just hear the litany of swear words her brothers would let off when they found out about this. But it didn't feel like a vampire. It felt sad and lonely. It broke her heart, her cheery mood gone.
Before she could realize what she was doing, Luciana was walking toward the stranger. She had to make him feel better. He felt so sad and alone. "Please...Don't be sad. You don't have to be alone."
Warning bells were going off in her head. She should be trying to edge back into the forest and leave before he sensed her. But it was too late now.

Sapir looked up from his little activity to the girl who'd spoken to him so softly. he blinked and then tried rubbing his eyes. The brilliant colors he'd long forgotten existed exploded behind his eyes, blinding him for a moment. He gave it enough time to adjust before he opened them and for once really looked at this girl before him.
He'd seen her around before, although he'd never reacted like this before.He looked at her like he was really seeing her for the first time and maybe he really was. He took in her beauty and listened to that sweet voice.
A small smile graced his lips as he shook his head and nearly laughed in disbelief. "I've seen you before.. I don't think I've ever learned your name though."

She blushed, turning her head toward the ground yet sneaking glances at him through her lashes. "Luciana. I'm Luciana." He was handsome. She wanted to touch him. She itched to touch him. She shook her head to clear the cobwebs. No, touching him would be inappropriate. It wasn't kosher to touch a male other than a family member or a lifemate. Luciana blinked at that thought. "I don't think I've ever seen you...Surely I would remember someone as..." She censored the thought trying to come out of her mouth. She was definitely thinking handsome though.

She was sweet and her scent was a little intoxicating, He found himself moving closer towards her, if just to take a deep breath of her in. How could he not have seen her as his other half? He felt a bit like an idiot for not seeing her sooner.
"Sapir." He smiled. "Luciana.... I like it."

"Sapir..." His name came out in a husky, needy tone and she was instantly embarrassed. "Yours is pleasing as well..." She moved closer to him, so that her body barely brushed his. She could feel the heat coming from him. It seeped into her bones until they demanded to be closer to him.
Luciana's cheeks tinted pink and she moved another half step closer to him. "Are you real? Or is this just a dream?"

He laughed softly. "I'm afraid I'm very real. You, my dear, I think are the dream."
She was cute when she tinged pink. He grabbed her hand/hoof with the bracelet and kissed it softly, needing to feel her and feel that she was indeed real. While he held it, he brushed it lightly with another kiss and took her scent in.
With a smile and a teasing note in his voice, he said, " Yes... I do think you are a dream."

She turned pinker, her insides flip flopping when he touched her. Her breathing hitched and she had to force herself to take deep breaths to stay centered. But she was flooded with his scent. Luciana found herself breathing deeper for a different reason after that.
"You...I...we...um..." She was at a loss for words, overwhelmed with so many new experiences. She'd never wanted a male's attention. But she needed his. "We...I've never...done anything so brash before...never done anything like this before."

His smile faltered a little. Since there could be no lies between lifemates, only truth, he'd rather get it out in the open.
"I wish I could I could say the same thing....There can be no lies between lifemates. It's impossible. Before I confide to my lifemate, remember that I will not stray since I've found you. Claimed or unclaimed, it will not matter."
e did have a few little ones. And she needed to know. Especially of his vampire blood. He gave her hand/hoof a tiny squeeze before continuing.
"First of all, I'm not fully Carpathian. I was born to a carpathian mother and a vampire father. And not the sadistic, heartless undead we hunt. I've never made sense of it myself but it is who I am. as such it allowed me to do few things full males cannot do. I will do right by you. I do have small children from another. Wee babes still."
he paused a moment, not wanting to overwhelm her. He just found her and he wasn't liking to admit that there had ever been another. But this was his other half, his lifemate.

Luciana nodded, a little hurt by his admission, though she tried to bury it deep. She squeezed his hoof in return. "I hope that I will get to meet your children."
She was still processing what he was saying. There were vampires out there that were not evil? She supposed anything was possible. Though how that occurred she was confused on.
Luciana continued to turn his words over in her head, her heart sinking. She bit her lower lip to try and keep her disappointment and sadness at bay. "You do not plan on claiming me then?" She couldn't look at him or he'd see that that idea upset her more than any of his other words.

If anything his vampire father had taught him, it was never to force yourself on anyone in anyway. Sapir held to that as a rule, often hiding when depression set in but he could never meet the dawn. Now he knew why he never did.
He lifted her chin, eyes serious but already loving. The last thing he ever wanted to do was see tears of sadness in her eyes. "Not without your consent. First and foremost, I see to your safety and well being as well as your happiness. I felt you needed to know, to actually hear me say these things."

She blinked back tears "Thank you for telling me. I'm grateful for your honesty, Sapir." Luciana couldn't tear her eyes from his, "But I couldn't live if you didn't claim me. Not as I was meant to live. I was made to be bound to you. If you didn't...I would spend forever wondering why I wasn't good enough."

He kissed the top of her head.
"My dear, I'm afraid you have that last thought very wrong. You would have been perfect and no one would have been good enough for you."
His own personal miracle had thought she wasn't good enough! Oh where has his head been? and why didn't he see her sooner?
He beant to lick up the saltiness of her tears and rested his head against hers. "Never would anyone have been good enough for you."

She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly. "Thank you Sapir." She took a deep breath to bring him into her lungs. "No one but you would ever have been good enough for me. I would have lived as though I were happy because I never would have known any different. I can't imagine living that way now."
