The Outer Ring

User Image

A long mountain range surrounds the whole of Wonderland, separated by a wide, slow moving river, of sorts. The river, which is more like a moat, has crystal clear waters with a glass like surface that reflects the sky perfectly. At night, bright colors dance across the sky, stopping at the border of the land. The shores of this river are covered in smoothed stones that have been in and out of the water for centuries. Just up the shore, on the very edge of the rocks, is a line of mushrooms, a singular line that grows, unbroken, around the entirety of Wonderland, like a giant Fairy Ring.

This river contains docks that sit in spread out places throughout the river. Each dock is rather short, but the depth of the river is unknown, due to the darkness in its depths, but its known to be too deep to swim to the bottom. At the end of each dock is a doorway to another world, each dock a different world. The waters will swirl and twist, a whirlpool, a long tunnel leading to the other world. The tunnels are extremely cold and contain twister winds that could potentially hurt, or even kill, someone if their not careful.

This land is Neutral.

Oh, where do we begin,

The rubble or our sins?

A perfectly manicured nail twisted the strands of chestnut brown hair around a slim finger as boredom set in. She had been waiting far too long for this drop, and now the delivery boy was late. How dare he be late on her. She began to tap her foot, more impatient for this than anything. "Your majesty, are you feeling alright?" The guard asked with a soft voice, his eyes cast to the ground as her head snapped around to look at him."He was supposed to be here by now, right? He said one o'clock, and it must be past that by now. We've been waiting for hours!" The guard blinked and looked down toward the polished rocks and dirt. As she cast her gaze back out to the pool of water, the mid-day sky glimmering with perfection on its surfaces, she could hear him shifting around behind her. She forced herself to focus on the water and the seemingly endless sky that was only cut in half by the mountains in the distance. She doubted anybody had ever been to the mountains, as legend said it had been too dangerous to go and nobody had ever made it back alive. That the glassy river had swallowed up any who tried.

They knew now, of course, that the river contained portals to other worlds, which aided their resources crisis, when they had them. She remember, as she stared a the pristine waters, a story her mother had told her about a girl from one of those other worlds finding her way to theirs. She had been from a world very different from theirs, with none of their most simple and basic of things. Her mother had recounted that the girl had never had tea that was green, which Amalia couldn't even imagine given her own fondness of the sweet tea. She'd said that the girl had dressed strangely, and spoken that way as well, and because she hadn't belonged in Wonderland, she'd had the worst of luck in it, and was eventually sent back home, though they never knew if she'd gone down the right hole. But the story was set so far in the past, when the river had been nothing but a stream, and may things had changed since then.

Practically bouncing up and down, Amalia tapped her nails together, chewing on her cheek in aggravation. He was late...he was very late. At least twenty minutes. Where was he? Just when she was about to scream in a distastefully unqueenly tone, the waters began to bubble and swirl. Kicking off her shoes and running to the end of the short wooden dock, she stared down into the gaping abyss that the whirlpool had created. There was a light in the center, so very far away, but she could almost see the land on the other side. She'd never left Wonderland, so she couldn't help but be curious about another world that would reside on the other side of a practical death trap. Before she could wonder very long on her curiosity, a shape appeared, twisting in the swirling winds, as though caught in a twister, and it was shooting straight for her. "Your majesty!" The guard called, grabbing her arm a second before she fell into the hole and pulling her out of the way as the shape was thrust from the abyss and shot into the air. She backed up with the guard, letting him do the job she'd hired him for, as the form, now seen as human, landed with a thud on the end of the dock, about three feet from the edge. The man, dressed in thick black pants, a black trench buttoned from his thighs to his neck, and a black face mask. A large black hood blocked his hair, and the large black boots made sure each step he took was well noticed. Had she ever seen him without a face mask and a hood? No, she didn't think she had, because she couldn't remember his face, no matter how hard she concentrated, the image just wouldn't come.

This man, known to her only as "Cross", had been her resource for rare, non-wonderland items for years now, even before she'd taken the kingdom. She hadn't found him, he'd found her, and even now she didn't know who he was, nor who he worked for. She'd tried very hard to Dream Walk to him, but she hadn't been able to find him, even when he'd been right beside her, and her visions had done nothing for her. She attempted to scry for him, to find him, but the stone had always flipped wildly over the page, as though it could never find him moments after he'd left her company. A tight smile graced her lips quickly as she brushed her guards hands away from her and straightened in her dark green dress, a professional a-lined dress with a modest amount of cleavage and simple, but flattering seams. The guard trotted away for just a moment and returned with her black ankle boots, which she'd untied the moment they'd gotten there and had begun waiting. "Mi'lady Vert." The deep, growly sound in his voice always rose something inside her, whether it was a danger warning, or some form of womanhood, she had no idea.

"Cross." She bowed her head slightly, not too much, she is a queen after all. Her hand reached up quickly to toy with the wrapped chain necklace that hung there tightly, a collar clasped around her throat. "So...did you find it? Do you have it? Let me see it." She demanded, taking a step forward as he began to reach into his trench. She heard the tightening of her guards hand on his blade, but she had needed Cross over the years, and she knew he needed her just as much. He put his hands up as he pulled a package from a hidden breast pocket in his coat. When her guard relaxed, he handed the package to her, only to have her hand snatch it away from him quickly and begin tearing it open. She inhaled the sent inside the box and smiled. Yes, it was definitely what she had needed, but the question was...was it pure. Glancing up at him, she eyed him suspiciously. "Is it pure?" He nodded and she eyed the contents of the package one more time. A formidable man, indeed, given the present he'd just delivered to her. Pure Vampire blood, certainly not an easy thing to retrieve. Snapping, she held her hand out to her guard, who untied a pouch from his belt and handed it to her gently with a bow. She handed the pouch to Cross, and he inspected the gems inside. When he was satisfied, he nodded, turned and faced the water, tying the pouch to his belt tightly. She watched as the waters began to swirl once more, just before he jumped through the abyss and disappeared, the portal closing.

DRESS White Queen's AttireLOCATION | -- | WITH -- TUNE Rabbit Heart

User Image XXXXXJosette was on one of her morning walks, that usually lasted until the afternoon, unless interrupted. She had already made her routine walk through her orchard, and spoke to all of the usual trees, as well as the grand tree in the center. She loved speaking to the trees and plants. They always made such good conversation, and knew such gossip. Trees weren't like the few flowers that actually spoke their language, one actually has to sit and listen to the trees. Most thought it was a useless talent, but Josette enjoyed what the trees had to say, and the grand tree was a very wise being. The tree has been there since to beginning of the White Kingdom, and has known many of Kings and Queens. Besides, the trees also loved a good party, which is why most of her festivals were held in the orchard, why have them miss the festivities? But her stroll was cut short this morning. The grand tree had such little to say this morning, but Josette wasn't going to let that spoil her day, besides, the knights that were hustling and bustling to clean from the last festival was disturbing her. It was true that she only give them one day to clean, and if there was one piece of trash left, someone would be punished. Most wouldn't even imagine what the White Queen was capable of.

XXXXX When she wasn't walking in the Orchard, she sometimes found herself on the Outer Ring. It was so lovely to walk along the shore, and the sound of waves always calmed the queen. Sure, when she hit a curve in the landscape, or something got in her way she would have to zig-zag past it, like she were still on a chess board, but she had done this her entire life so it didn't seem to bother the Queen. She sometimes found herself on the docks watching the portals swirl, or just off shore, because the oddest of things seemed to watch up at times. It was known that the portals took those who dare go in them to other worlds, or that's what it was told, if you manage to survive the trip. Josette has never tried, she found the chance of survival a little to low for her tastes. She enjoys collecting what may wash up, whether it be some form of machine or contraption, or whether it be something she could use as an ingredient. She hadn't seen anything useful yet, and things weren't looking promising. She began to twirl her parasol as she walked, having to zig-zag around another obstacle.

XXXXXAs she walked, having no luck, she saw someone in the distance. She couldn't make out who they were, she could just see a Woman, and what looked like a few men. Josette began walking a straight path to the group, when she saw one of the men jump into the river. Josette may not know who these were, but she wasn't worried, she knew there were always knights watching her movement, but she had ordered them not to be seen, it bothered her to have men gallivanting behind her in loud metal. She did hear them every so often, but that, she didn't mind. The closer she got the more familiar the woman began to appear. It was Amalia, The Green Queen. Josette didn't know the woman all to well, she never seemed to come to her festivals, but she has crossed paths with the woman, one time or another. When she reached the dock that Amalia was standing with her guards, Josette walked half way up the dock before stopping, and bringing a large smile onto her face. She waited a moment, waiting to be noticed, before speaking. "Hello, Amalia." she spoke in her light airy voice. She tilted her head forward a bit, a small bow out of respect. "What brings you all the way out to the Outer Ring?" she asked her, knowing the Queen rarely left her castle, and now she was out of her Kingdom. After all, she rarely turned up for a festival. Josette's hand floated about her as usual, while her other held onto the parasol.

Oh, where do we begin,

The rubble or our sins?

Amalia turned to leave the dock, but froze at the sight of what was blocking her path. Well, there went her happy moment, she thought as she faced none other than the White queen. She'd had several visions of this woman in years passed, everything from Josette enjoying her orchard, to her...less than reputable actions. The kind people were killed for their knowledge of. Bowing her head slightly in respect to the queen, she began to walk forward when Josette spoke again. What brought her to the Outer Ring? Her grip tightened on the package in her hand. What would the other woman say, in such an instance, should she tell her the truth? That she needed pure vampire blood for a ritual that would call for her to drip t in her bath every night til it dried? Past visions of Josette dripping all sorts of things into her food flashed through Amalia's mind and she flashed a quick quirk of her lips. "Nothing much, just a package for a needed ritual. I can't move on without it." She held up the package, with a sly twitch of her lips that could almost be called a smile. There was a small tear in the package she knew would allow Josette to see the deep red liquid in the clear little bottles as they were arranged so neatly in their case. Cross had been careful, he always was, which seemed to make her want to know him even more.

"And I take it you're on a walk. I practically heard your festival from Green." She said the words in a bored tone, as though talking to such a woman was not what she would rather be doing at his moment. It was an honest tone, at least. She hadn't heard the festival, but she'd landed in several dreams of the people who'd been there, were there, some having been too inebriated and exhausted from a day of running around and dancing to say awake. She'd seen their days and cringed at the festivities, the joy that had ended in drunken stupors against trees or beneath tables. Now those people would have been shuffled off to their homes and the party would be cleaned, because that was Josette. She'd been invited several times to Josettes festivals, and when she was younger, she'd sneaked out to them, but now, in her age, they were damnable things that would only serve to distract her from her spells and rituals. She held the package in front of her with two hands, her back straight, head tall. She wasn't wearing her crown, an attempt to hide herself while outside, but form certain people such a thing was impossible. All she'd donned for the trip out had been a small, golden hair comb in the shape of a crown, which was slid into place against the updo she'd made for herself. A bump with a low sitting braided bun, small braids on either side leading into the bun and braid and supporting the bump.

DRESS White Queen's AttireLOCATION | Just off of the Outer Ring | WITH The Green Queen TUNE Rabbit Heart

User Image XXXXX The Green Queen didn't appear to be happy to see her, then again, Josette had never really seen her happy. At least not her version of happy. Josette's happy is when she possesses a smile wide enough that could almost pass for a Cheshire Kitten's smile, and just as crazy looking. She nodded back, which was enough for Josette. The woman spoke of her reasons for coming to the Outer Ring, and held up a pouch. Josette looked at it, and seeing it through the tear, and with the light reflecting off of it, it's source questionable seeing how reflective the river was. Josette could clearly see it was blood from some being, and Josette brought the back of her hand to her mouth and let out a small muffled gag. This was a growing habit to counter act what true rumors that may emerge about her, which this habit she's almost began to believe herself. Any time she saw blood, or any type of wound in public, she would noticeably gag. The habit began to take on a life of it's own seeing as she's begun to gag once or twice while she was cooking, however this would only cause her to laugh. Even though she gagged, there was a spark of interest in her eye. "Oh? What could possibly be holding you back?" she spoke, with that sparkle, mixing with her once again growing smile. She had let it slip, something she knew she shouldn't do especially to another royal, so she looked back to the water, and soon she shrunk her smile back down and blinked the craziness out of her eyes before looking back to the Green Queen.

XXXXX Amalia then spoke of the festival that had been thriving for the past Two days. "Oh yes, It was wonderful, We all missed you, Amalia." she told her, sliding to the side to allow her to pass, and when she did, Josette followed her. They were celebrating Draco-Fructus Day, the day that a harvest for a certain rare fruit found only in the White Kingdom. The fruit tastes differently every time you eat it. The Fruit is almost light as air, and they only sprout the fruit if it grows to a certain height, and no higher. Two foot, and 3/8ths of an inch. The Festival was all about the fruit, it id white with small black seeds that hold the flavor, but you mustn't consume all of the seeds, They needed to replant the flowers a week after harvest, which the Queen does herself. The first night of the festivities the guests would dance, and listen to the beautiful, and whimsical music while drinking their white wine, of course all sporting laurels and their finest attire. Though at midnight, the music would cease, and everyone would watch the flowers to bloom, and see if the fruit would come floating out of the large flowers. Of course not all flowers would make the cut, and they would produce fruits that were far to bitter to eat, and they would roll right out and fall to the ground. The few that have dared try them would grow ill for an entire week. While the ones that over grew would fly out to fast to be caught, which no one would want, seeing as they were sour, and cause your lips to twist shut for a week. The few that gently floated out would be harvested and caught by the Queen, and her royal guard and they would begin to make them into various horderves, or even left as is, but placed in a covered bowl. The rest of the festival would be spent dancing, eating, drinking, and gossiping. Josette of course never allowed herself to be one of those who drink themselves stupid, but she would often spend her time dancing and hearing about the hot gossip. Of course no one ever got tired at her parties, they were to busy dancing and having fun, plus Josette couldn't have tired guests, to ensure, she slipped a little serum into the drinks that would keep everyone awake until they got home, don't even ask where the food came from. After one of her festivals, it was Common for the streets to be empty, and almost silent, aside from the grumpy and tired business owners. All needing recovery from the long party. "Oh, I do wish that you would be so busy and visit my kingdom, or maybe attend a festival, Amalia." she said to her, with a slight pout to her voice. Josette always wanted to have all the royals at her festivals, even if she herself wouldn't associate with all of them exactly, Mainly only Amalia..

Oh, where do we begin,

The rubble or our sins?

She smiled tightly at the other woman, knowing that Josette had, indeed sent out invitations, like always, to each of the kingdoms. She would have a mountain of them, if she didn't end up simply throwing the things away or burning them at first convenience. "Yes, well, progress is progress. I have schedules to keep and things to see. Spells to cast, you know. Must stay on schedule, and sadly, that leaves no time to gallivant around the White lands in a drunken stupor." Amalia could feel the guards presence behind her, fidgeting like a child in need of a bathroom. Not many people in Green enjoyed this particular queens company, mainly for the rumors and stories of people going missing in her kingdom. Here on neutral ground, however, there was nothing to be done about the queen before them. She supposed she could turn and walk away from Josette with the guard in toe, but she hesitated to turn her back on such a woman. Josette had the potential to be a wonderful client, she certainly had the money and resources to get the strange things Amalia would need for certain spells.

It's not like the queen tried to be a bad person, outwardly at least, but her husbands death had changed her more than anybody else, Amalia knew. She'd heard that her mother had had a vision the night the White King had been killed, but it had been so vague that it wouldn't have helped at all. And she was sure it had probably been just that, so obscure and lacking in detail that it couldn't have helped anyone but the person who wanted to know what color the killers shoe was. But the only people who'd known exactly what the vision had been were dead now and it hadn't been scrawled down anywhere for future insight. She wondered if that was why her parents started teaching her to write down all of her visions instead of letting them simply be forgotten. She had stacks of books kept in a safe storage room in the castle, each one filled with dates and times and thorough descriptions of the vision using as much detail as possible. Her parents hadn't done this and nor, that she knew of, had her brother.
"Besides," She continued her grip on her package tightening. "I'm not really good at parties anymore. Sadly, most call me dull and uninteresting, I'm afraid I'd ruin the event for you and your guests."

User Image XXXXX Josette had always wanted the Royals of Wonderland to attend her parties.. She had always wanted to connect with them. Josette only ever sees, and meets with them through royal meetings, or to sign a treaty, and in those instants Josette knows to choose her words carefully. She wanted to get to know who she is ruling along side, though, she would never venture into the Red Kingdom, Josette believed them to be much more hostile than unnessicary, granted she had only have heard stories from her mother, as well as the few trips through the Kingdom to get to a meeting. She had only seen a bit if the Red Kingdom, when traveling through the kingdom the royal family would of course show the guest what they were proud of, which just so happened to be a colosseum. Of course, Josette was not as against fighting, but she is publicly. Aside from Red, she does travel to Black and Green every so often. She always seems to get lost in the Green kingdom. She has been through the forest multiple times, but the forest always seems to know when she is not wanted, and seems to turn against her on certain occasions. However, this never stops her, and she always seems to just miss Amalia, or any other royal member of the family that she wants to see. When she ventures out to the Black kingdom, it is always secret trips to get ingredients for potions, spells, or hexes. Amalia is the one royal that she has met the most. Josette has a secret fear of Marionet, the Black Queen, well both Royals. They were horrifying to say the least. Both strong mentally, physically, and with their powers. They were a strong duo that Josette did not want to mess with, whoever... She is quite jealous of them, which is the only reason why she invites the two royals. They were just so... evil, and dark. From the highest tower of her castle, Josette could see the edge of their dark land, and she always looked over at the land longed, and envied for their ways. Josette knows they have to be clean, perfect, and beautiful, but the so longed for their ways.

XXXXXJosette looked back to Amelia. "Oh, well if you have a schedule to keep to, I can always send you notice early so you can plan accordingly." She spoke with a smile, trying to make it harder for Amalia to miss the festivals. "Oh nonsense, Amalia." Josette replied with a wave of one of her floating hands. "I couldn't imagine why anyone would call you dull." she said, looking her directly in the eyes. It would be hard to tell if Josette were taking a stab at Amalia, or if she were being completely honest, she might even be unsure of it herself. "You just need to get out more, and take a break from the books. Even if you don't want to go to one of my Festivals, Maybe you could come and help me tend to the flower beds in the Orchard. Seeing that you don't like my parties." she said, almost sounding hurt towards the end. Josette did like Amalia, save for her straightforwardness, but Amalia has seen her at her worse, and knew secrets about her that Josette wish she didn't. After Octavius was killed, Josette made a mad dash to Amalia's castle gates demanding her and her husband's fortune. No Wonderlander has seen a Royal from White look like Josette that day, nor was it seen sense. Her hair was in a large white knotted mess, the hem on her dress had begun to fringe and tear from her frantic running, and stained from her makeup filled tears, as well was what ever she had spilt on herself. Her pale complexion was streaked with make up, maybe even a single stray curler hanging from her hair. She was hysterical to say the least. She barely got any information from Amalia, or her mother, which did infuriate Josette at the time, but all is said and done. Regardless of the little information she can get out of her, Josette feels the need to befriend the queen, because of all of the facts that she knew. Josette does feel closer to Amalia than she does the other royals, but she feels the need to get that much more closer.

The comment about how dull Amalia was, or was not, didn't make the twenty-something year old feel any better about her "dullness", nor about the Queen of Pristine. At the mention of flower beds, however, Lia knew she was walking a dangerous path, one of a white, happy spider leading her into a glistening silver web. Josette had to know that Amalia had a soft spot for flowers, everyone in Green did and it had gained them certain nicknames over the years, like "Caterpillar". The idea of tending to those flowers had Amalia curious, which was very unusual lately for something that didn't have the potential to backfire and kill her. She'd admired the beautiful white flowers when she was young, attending the parties and staring at row after row of perfectly manicured flora.

She could feel herself caving slowly, the temptation of plants one of her few pleasures, as a good Queen of Green should have.
"As titillating as the offer as, it would have to be some time in the near future I'm afraid. I do have a ritual to finish, and it will take several days to complete." She smiled slightly at the other woman, an act that now seemed very alien to her, as she didn't do it very often. Bathing in the blood of the undead was only one step, and after it, there were a few more to do before she had the freedom to move on to a new project.

User Image XXXXX Josette listened to her, watching her mull it over in her head. She turned down her offer, or did she? She didn't say no, she just implied she wanted to do it later, a few days later at least. Josette's black lips widened as he face lightened much more, hooking her arm around the other Royal's once again.. "Alright, splendid. How about the day after next Tuesday?" she said beginning to walk with Amalia. She knew it bothered the woman she were walking with, even more so her guards, but Josette just enjoyed being around people, and having company around her. They helped her forget those dark deeds she has done in the past, as well as what she knows she'll do in the future. "We could also have a bit of tea and maybe some bread-and-butterflies to" she added with a nod. A bit of talking wouldn't harm the Green Queen. Josette knew she needed to connect with the other Royals. The Black Queen was much to rash for her, and the Red.... they never saw eye to eye. Josette looked forward, down the beach shore and then back to Amalia. "So, what are you working on, maybe I could help." she said. It was no secret that Josette worked with her own spells, and potions, however, just how dark they were... Now that was the secret. Josette had her own connections, and resources that Amalia might not have, all four lands did, but Josette knew enough that the vile the Green Queen had in the package was not the blood of a human... That much she could tell right off the bat. It was much to dark. Josette would be rather interested in aiding the Green Queen in her potion, maybe cut a bit of the length it took to make it down. She knew she wouldn't be doing much that day. Her court were off on their own devices, and the city were recovering, while all the pawns, and knights were cleaning up the Orchards.

This story's missing a wishing well,

No mirror to show and tell,

No kiss that can break the spell,
I'm falling asleep,

Every prince is a fantasy,

The witch is inside of me,
Her poison will wash away the memory,

We kill the lights and put on a show,

It's all a lie,
But you'd never know,

❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦╠☜╬☞╣❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦❦

The star will shine and then it will fall,

And you will forget it all.

Amalia stiffened as the Queen of Pristine grabbed her arm once again and began walking. To pull away would be easy, but it would also end in one of two ways; Josette would take it as an insult, or the white queen would laugh it off and pursue her even further with much more drive. Lia could feel her guard tense, getting ready to attack should Josette do anything Amalia were to complain about. She liked this guard, though, so she wouldn't complain and bear through the tormenting White Queen, since attacking the other woman would be unnecessary and foolish for her. Losing a guard wasn't on today's agenda. When Josette invited her to the White castle on a different day, Amalia bit the inside of her lip. She wasn't getting away from Queen Josette Patrillo, and that was a fact she'd seen coming for years now. The woman was merciless.

Amalia thought a out it for a moment, weighing the odds, before finally deciding to accept the offer. What would be the harm in having tea with a woman she had tea with all the time; they were simply moving to a different place.
"Alright, Josette, it's a date." She said calmly, putting a slight emphasis on "date". She knew she was fairly much the only royal the White Queen could be in the presence of without having to lie too much, not that she was truly herself with Lia either. She'd seen bits and pieces of the woman alone, from when she was sad, and happy, or angry, and the changes could be drastic at times. Personally, Amalia hadn't bothered with any of the other royals, since they hadn't really needed her assistance for anything. The conversation switched from their newly planned date to Amalia's current project. She thought about the remaining steps of the ritual but none of them needed more than one person to complete. She had to bathe in the blood of the undead, pour hot wax on her stomach, fast for three days and paint certain runes in a certain pattern from her head to her toes. She wasn't looking forward to having the paint go over the tattoo on her foot, as she loved the thing. "I don't know how you could help until the very end with painting the runes, but that's more of a job for one of my attendants. The rest of it is merely trifle things such as fasting or pouring wax on myself, nothing too difficult for anybody, really, just tedious."

Amalia stopped and turned to Josette with a smile. She curtsied quickly after carefully pulling away from the other queen. "I have many other errands to run today, your majesty," She included the honorific this time to give off the sense that she truly meant business. "I'm sure you wish to continue your walk in a peaceful environment, and I have to go into busy areas with many people. Not to mention, places that could very easily ruin your reputation should anyone see you with me. If you'll excuse me." She curtsied once more before turning on her heels and striding off, her guard in toe. They were gone before the other woman could stop them.
