Well, we all know soaps can be pretty unbelievable, but sometimes they step over the line into the realm of pure ridiculasness and you find yourself sitting in front of the television scratching your head and wondering how on earth some of these people get to be paid writers... Anyone have any favorite truly stupid soap opera moments they'd like to share? Years ago on One Life to Live Marty and Patrick had this wild romance fleeing terrorists in Ireland, then returned to Llanview. Then, one day they came across the exact Irish pub they had first met in in Ireland! OMG! They go in and they talk to the owner and he tells them that he had the pub moved to New York from Ireland piece by piece and then he had put back together rolleyes Now, this is bad enough, but the writers seemed to think that this was really clever, so other characters on the show kept talking about the fabulous fact that an old Irish pub had been moved to America board by board >.< Talk about beyond stupid! To make matters worse the bartender was later revealed to be allied with "The Men of 21" or some such who were an Irish terrorist group and supposedly they bankrolled his moving of the pub in order to catch Patrick. Marty and Patrick ^^

I really only watch Days, but once in high school the teacher turned on the television and Passions was on. I couldn't believe what I saw. They had someone tied to a large wooden pole and were burning them. Burning them! One of the handfull of other times I watched Passions involved Santa coming out of the television. Then I guess there was some sort of subplot with Santa being Tabitha's arch enemy, or someone's arch enemy, or maybe even some random cast member's second cousin twice removed. Whatever it was, it was a pretty sad excuse for a storyline if you ask me. EDIT: Isn't Patrick in that picture Ian in Port Charles?

Passions had some truly weird stuff...I never watched it, but I had a close friend who did and he use to tell me some of stranger storylines ^^ Jenalyn EDIT: Isn't Patrick in that picture Ian in Port Charles? Indeed he is ^^ I never really watched Port Charles much, but I think Ian was the brother of Patrick on OLTL...I know they gave him the same last name on PC xd He now plays Zach on AMC 3nodding Hehehe...I watch too many soaps xd I suffer from insomnia periodically, so I zone out a lot lying in bed at night watching the Soapnet run of Days, AMC, OLTL, and GH >.<

lol, you know for all the unbelievable stuff you need to watch guiding light. there it is, all of it. lets see...now i was not alive wht this happened but when guiding light (or it MIGHT have been one life to live...don't knw* they had everyone in the town get on a bus and the bus crash, then when it went to TV it was all some sort of relitave that had come because of the accident to that town...and that is how that show is still on.
on oltl there is the whole 'jessica really is your daughter, you just had her under a mix of your other personality and being druged...oh and your arch enime guy man is also the father.' -but really they are all like that.

Erica Kane's daughter which was originally played by Sara Michelle geller. Erica had her when she was 15 we first saw Erica in 1970 when she was 14 her daughter was like 18 in 1996 when she should have been 36 ????

I thought of another stupid moment, again OLTL:
Antonio Vega had a one night stand with a woman who just happened to be the mother of his slightly estranged then girlfriend Kerri(Keri?) Reynolds. Of course, the mother gets pregnaunt from the one night stand and then finds out that her heart is too weak to carry the baby to term. So she has surgery done to transport the fetus into her daughters womb(totally not possible).
So Antonio was then engaged to the woman who was carrying a baby whose parents were her mother and her fiance.
Maybe the writers thought it sounded good on paper? I dunno 0_o

So, her sibling died somewhere between the operation table and her womb. And how many children has Vikki had while being another of her personalities? Let's see those that we know of .....Megan, Jessica..there will probably be others discovered. And how can twins have different fathers? I saw this attempted on Guiding Light. They realized it was ridiculous and backtracked giving the twins the same father. Not to say they don't have their share of ridiculous duds. Remember Dolly, the Reva clone? 'Nuff said. domokun

How about this one for stupid? One Life to Live fires Nathaniel Marston and breaks up super couple Al and Marcie. They realize what they have done too late and hire him back...as Al's angel who inhabits Michael's body. What's wrong with this plot? Well, we don't care anything about Michael. We really don't even know him and what kind of message does that story send to people who have lost loved ones? If we love them hard enough, they will come back to us?? What was even the point if Marcie and Al would be made to forget who he was in the first place? And, how often do we even see this Michael guy now? What a waste of talent, just like when he was on As the World Turns. crying

'Nuff said. domokun Thanks for fleshing that out some! - I'd forgotten a lot of the details, but I remember just cringing when the story was happening(I was very glad when Keri died - they made her so wacked and whiney right before the big fall from the hotel window >.<) If I remember correctly, Jessica and Nat's different fathers come from the fact that Nat was conceived by Vicki and Clint and Jessica was implanted into Vikki's womb after her doctor(who was a cultist working for Mitch) knocked her out, stole some eggs, artifically insiminated some with Mitch as the father, then implanted one into Vikki rolleyes I didn't care much for the Mitch storyline and didn't watch OLTL for much of the year while it was going on sweatdrop Ooo...the Reva Clone, I'd forgotten that one....that was pretty dumb sweatdrop

And just how old is Alicia Menshew's Kendall supposed to be? This was all done (Kendall being so young) to try and make Erica a heck of a lot younger than she really is. I mean this woman is an ageless beauty, so why bother with trying to erase the years? The opening credits of AMC begin with and old picture of her, and to be honest, she just keeps getting prettier. *I hate her crying *

Not so much a stupid moment, but funny-sad anyway. Did any of you guys have one of those dolls when you were little that had the wobbling eyes? You know, with the big eye lashes. Sometimes the eyes would mess up and go in two different directions. Anyways, on Tuesday or Wednesday's One Life to Live, Blair had a mini make-over in which she had crimped hair, skimpy clothes and big fake eye lashes. The lash on her left eye was down too far on her eye lid and everytime the camera flashed to her, I was reminded of my doll whose eye broke and went the wrong way. The whole look was very unflattering and not very age appropriate at all. You would think that some one in make-up would have seen that the eye lash was not in the right place.

LOL I missed that, but I was painting while I watched, so I wasn't paying much attention. All I noticed was her crimped hair(I can't decide if I like it or not) Whatever happened to Blair/Kassie DaPaiva(hoped I spelled that right)'s husband? I can't remember his name for the life of me, but he use to play Max... Did the writers just send Max off to South Carolina to visit the twins after Gabrielle and Al died? Something slightly silly that I noticed: They keep running the "tape" of Kevin and Kelly pleading for the kidnappers to return Ace on both AMC and OLTL and Kevin keeps repating "the number is at the bottom of the screen" and the news annoucer talked about the number...but there is no number =-p They were too cheap or lazy to add one to the tape xp

All My Children: On the Bianca tip, JR gave in and just told her the truth about the baby-which she did not believe. I was mad for a while, but then I thought, it is just like Binks to dismiss the whole story because she always sees the good in everyone and there is no way that she would believe Babe could have done that to her without seeing some cold, hard proof. Oh well, so much for the truth.
