Warning: This is a log of Star's life before Canthry. May be depressing at times.

New Bark Town. People say it's just a small town with hardly any Pokemon. They're wrong.

In the forest behind this small town, lies an intricated city. This city is home to all of the Eeveelutions. Something long ago made them as they are today, but that is another story.

On the outskirts of the city, a litter of Eevees are born to Umbreons Kita and Sun. There were three in all, each the same size and weight.

Kita stared down lovingly at her newborn Eevees. They had fallen asleep in their crib fashioned by their father. He had left to do some work, but had said he was coming home early. "Glow...Nala...Star..." She pointed to each one of the kits as she named them. This was her second litter, her first one having left the city already.

The kits grew quite nicely, and, as it was a custom of the Eeveelutions, were sent off to other families. Glow was sent to a Flareon family, and Nala was sent to a Vaporeon family. Star was left with her own mother, as she seemed to be Kita's favorite.

Star was playing in the yard with a doll that Sun had fashioned for her. It had the looks of a human, and Star had enjoyed the gift from her father. A younger, or possibly same aged, Eevee passed by, but instead of just ignoring Star, sat down next to her.

"Hi, I'm Kyoko! What's your name?"

Star looked up, and grinned. Nobody would imagine that she would one day become an anti-social jerk.

"My name is Star. Want to play?"

Kyoko nodded, and took out her own doll. This one looked like a Bulbasaur. She looked up and grinned.

"I'm going to become an Espeon one day!"

Star blinked. "An Espeon? I'm going to be an Umbreon!"

Kyoko grinned. "Really? That's cool!"

They had played for an hour, and already were the best of friends. Before Kyoko was about to leave, she held out her paw.

"Let's be best friends, even when we've evolved. Promise?"

Star immediately put her paw out and grinned. "Promise."

They shook on it, and Kyoko left. Star didn't see her again.

--------------------------------------------------------------

A few days before Star was going to become an Umbreon, disaster struck.

She was walking towards the kitchen to get a snack. Little Eevees have great hungers, you know. But as she was doing this, she spotted Kita. Kita was bent down, one paw on the table, another covering her face.

"Momma?"

Star started to progress towards her. She didn't know what was wrong, but she wanted to find out.

"Momma? Are you alright?"

Kita seemed to chuckle. "Star...do something for Mommy...go break something..."

Star looked suprised. "But...but Mommy...I don't want to break anything..."

In about a split second, Kita had grabbed the scruff of Star's neck. Tears were now dotting Star's eyes. She didn't know what was going on.

"Momma! Momma, it hurts! What'd I do!"

Kita's eyes went wide and she dropped Star, who scrambled away. She turned. "Star...stay away. Lust...Lust will hurt you."

Star blinked away the tears in her eyes. "Lust? Who...?" She didn't go any nearer to Kita. She was too afraid.

"When you become an Umbreon, there is somebody else who will...become you. They don't have any feelings, and only want chaos. To keep them in, you must train hard. Do this for Mommy, alright?"

Star nodded. She understood...a bit. "Alright..." Star got up and sprinted for her room, where she stayed the rest of the night.

--------------------------------

It was the day before the ceremony, where she'd see her brother and sister again. For the last time, probably. And Kyoko. Her father had come home for the ceremony, and was outide talking to her mother.

Star was standing by the door, tears streaming down her face. They'd started arguing, and there didn't seem to be any stopping them.

"She could have been hurt, Kita! This is why we don't take in anyone from our own litters!" Sun's voice was raspy now, and very scary and agressive.

"It isn't my fault that Lust got out! If she'd just stayed outside for a few more minutes, I would have had it under control!"

There was a loud smacking sound, and then a slamming door. Star's eyes went wide and she ran from the door. The knob on that door turned and opened to Kita walking in. Her cheek had started to swell a bit.

Star got up from her bed and wiped the tears from her eyes. "Mommy?"

Kita gave her a weak smile and sat down beside her. "Star...I don't think that Daddy's going to be at the ceremony..."

Star nodded. She was aware that she'd never see him again.

Kita gave Star a big hug and kept her in that hug, trying to keep the tears from streaming down her face. "It'll be hard to go to sleep after that agrument. I'll tell you a story, alright?"

She'd tucked Star into bed and sat back down, taking a deep breath. Her cheek stung like a bee's sting, but she ignored it.

"Alright, how about the story of how we got this way?"

Star nodded a bit and gripped her quilt, her ears perked.

Kita closed her eyes. "Once upon a time, the Pokemon of this community looked like any regular Pokemon. Regular Eevees and Falreons and Umbreons...we didn't even speak in English."

"But deeper into this forest, strange things were happening. Pokemon were disappearing, and never coming out again. Nobody knew where they had gone, and there were only a few that went looking. Out of those few, there was a Flareon named Light and an Umbreon named Moon."
