Isshin Dojo is a kenjutsu school, a school of Japanese swordsmanship. Its owner is Koshiro, who is a skilled swordsman and father of the deceased Kuina. It is the place where Zoro trained his Santōryū and is the only dojo Zoro did not take down the sign of.

It was a bright and sunny day on shimotsuki island. Kenasai was sleeping in, due to his recent efforts to perfect his sword training. The sunlight peers through the curtain onto his face. He turned over on the mattress, attempting to fall back to sleep. As he creeps back into slumber land, a deep ringing sound started to chime *gong gong gong.* It was the towns bell signalling the arrival of a ship. Like that, Kenasai was awake. It had then occurred to him that he was late to meet with his sensei, Kobarashi. Struggling to dress himself, he rushes down the stairs of his friend's home. He quickly bolts out the door, running into the forest. Following an intricate path, he makes it to a clearing. Standing in the clearing is master Kobarashi looking mildly disgruntled. Kenasai begins to explain, “Sorry I'm late master Kobarashi… I just-” Kobarashi interrupts, “No Excuses! You've been training since you were nine years old. You're twenty-one now! Time for you to grow up! Now look sharp! It's time for your finexpchallenge. You must defeat me in a clash of swords.” Kenasai states, “If that's the way you want it. Then I'll be happy to knock you off that pedestal sensei.” Both combatants draw their respective practice swords. They both take their paces away from one another before turning to face each other. Several seconds had passed, both just staring each other down in their respective stances. As a leaf falls to the ground, a sudden clash of wood echoes through the forest. The two rapidly swing their weapons against one another, neither gaining the edge on the other. Blow for blow, the match wages on with no sign of exhaustion on either side. A split second is all it would take to decide the match. Kenasai lunges backward toward a series of trees, connecting his feet with a thick branch. His legs spring himself back at Kobarashi who counters with a three sixty spin strike. The wooden blades clash once more, leaving Kenasai in a disadvantageous state of mid-air combat. His master takes the opportunity to unleash a quick strike, but Kenasai saw it coming, using a counter strike to reflect the attack. Kobarashi dashes passed Kenasai via the attack. Kenasai barely managed to stop the blow, but unbeknownst to him, he made contact on Kobarashi with his counter. Kobarashi lowers his weapon, turns around and says, “Well done. You finally landed a hit on me. In doing so, you have proven that you are ready to face the outside world.” a momentary pause divides the two warriors “So, I can leave the island then?” Kenasai asks. Kobarashi responds, “That is correct. You haven't been off the island since you arrived all those years ago. This is your chance to see the outside world.” Kenasai smiled back at his sensei all the while thinking, (I know exactly where I'm going to go first… I need to see what became of my home town… not to mention what became of my parents bodies…) He and his master walked back to the town together. Later that day, Kenasai's female friend Saya had a long conversation about his success at his master's test. Saya states, “It's great that you passed and all, but after all these years, you never explained to me why you trained so hard…” A silence fills the room. Kenasai hadn't told anybody his true goal, not even his master. Of course he didn't, how could anybody understand? But this was Saya, the only real friend he had since he arrived eleven years ago. He decided to vaguely explain his reason, “Saya… if you saw the people most precious to you get killed, how would you feel..?” She started blushing as she realized that the first person she thought of was Kenasai as a precious person. She responds, “T-That's umm… I-I…” Kenasai decides it's time to stop beating around the bush and interupts, “That's what happened to me… A man killed my Father for standing up to him, and my mother as an example for those who cross him… I'll never forgive him for what he did. I was too weak to stop him then, so I stowed away on a ship, and just happened to end up here…” Tears start rolling down Saya's face. She tightly grips onto his sleeve, muttering, “Why didn't you tell me sooner..? You need to let people know what's wrong for them to help you, so why carry this pain on your own…” She looks up with tears pouring down her face, blurting out, “I'm your friend right? Why didn't you trust me enough to let Me help you?!” Kenasai turns to her and wraps his arms tightly around her. He quietly mutters, “I'm sorry Saya. It's not that I couldn't trust you, I was just afraid you'd get hurt in my pursuit for vengeance…” He begins to loosen his grip, while continuing what he was saying, “I love you saya, so please, wait for me to return so we can start a proper family.” she looks back with her big teary eyes, she grins, as she replies, “Okay…” The two share a passionate kiss. The moon now high in the sky shines over the town celebrating Kenasai's graduation with a feast. The food was hot, and the entertainment was most enjoyable. Saya sat next to Kenasai being clingy, while Master Kobarashi sat across from them. See, Saya was Kobarashi's daughter, so he had to make sure it was acceptable with him to romance his daughter. Kobarashi let out a chuckle as he exclaimed, “It's about time my boy. You've been living under the same roof for years now, so for you to finally make a move, it's just wonderful. Although, if you did so without completing your training, I'd have cut of your southern mast if you catch my drift.” Kenasai just sipped on his mug of ale, pretending he didn't hear that last part. The next morning, he had made sure his ship was all stocked up and ready to sail. He turned toward those on the dock, noticing that aside from the students and his master, Saya was nowhere to be seen. He figured she might be having mixed feelings about him leaving, but he also knows in his heart that she'd be waiting for him. He says his final farewells and starts to set sail. After sailing several miles away from the shore of shimotsuki, he heard a sudden cluttering sound from the backroom. He turns on the light to see a half eaten apple on the table. He starts to look around the room to only see a single barrel with a half pressed lid. He starts to approach the barrel unsure of what's inside. He quickly removes the lid, only to see there was nothing inside. He presses the lid back down on the barrel, turns around and she's Saya standing right behind him. Kenasai jumped to the ceiling, questioning, “What are you doing here?!” she responds, “I talked it over with my father, and we came to an agreement. He said it was better if I went with you, that way I wouldn't be left all alone waiting for a man who may or may not return. Also he says you could still use some practice, so he wants me to whip you into shape. After all, you're the one who's supposed to protect the 'damsel in distress’ right?” Kenasai starts laughing deeply at her, she's the farthest thing from a damsel in distress. He states, “Then it's decided. We'll sail together towards our first adventure.” Saya smiles brightly as she skips out of the room. Kenasai's face returns to it's stoic expression. He mutters to himself, (This time, I'll keep you safe. That's a promise.)

Kenasai's ship docks at shimotsuki Island. Kenasai loomed over the decks railing, looking out over the island's horizon. He hadn't told Saya where they were going, mostly due to the feeling in his gut. He flashes back to when Saya gets injured during the tournament, causing Kenasai much grief. If he had gained control over his devil fruit powers sooner, he could have prevented the damage from being dealt. He shifts his body to the cabin door in the form of light particles. He peers inside to see Saya was still asleep. This was his opportunity to talk to her father alone. Several hours pass. Saya awakens within the ship, looking around for Kenasai. She walks around the cabin, lightly gripping her injury. She gets to the window, seeing that she is back home. She runs to the door, opening it to see Kenasai and her father. Kenasai grips her shoulder, stating, “We need to discuss something important with you Saya…” They sit at her father's house, sipping tea. Kenasai comes out and says, “Saya, you need to stay here.” She drops her teacup, yelling out, “Why would you say that?! I got hurt once, big deal!” He pins her against the wall by her wrists, yelling back, “How do you think that makes me feel?! I saw my parents die, do you think I want to see you die too?!” Tears start to roll down her eyes. He lets go as he continues, “When I saw you bleeding out, I lost control and mutilated a man. Even if he deserved it, I lost sight of myself, and I'm afraid that you'll see that someday too…” She continues to cry as he continues to speak, “I love you so much… I can't bear the thought of losing you… And my road is going to be a bloody war path. I need you to wait here for me… I'll return a better man. Somebody you would be proud to marry.” She grips him tightly, kissing him to silence his words. She states, “I don't need you to change… I just want to see the world with you… But I'm too weak compared to you, it's embarrassing… I-” Kenasai cuts her off, “Saya, you are immensely strong, but I want you to get stronger Here, where I know you will be safe. I'll be sure to come back and visit you before I head to the grand line. If you've made a full recovery, or if I find others to join my crew, I'd gladly take you with me, but I can't always be there to keep you safe. I need to get stronger before I take you anywhere.” She wipes her eyes free of her tears, as her father adds in, “Saya, Kenasai is right. You need to recover here before you go anywhere. If you truly love Kenasai, give him the freedom to grow stronger his own way. Meanwhile, you must get stronger Your own way as well.” Saya gazes at her father with her bloodshot eyes, “......Fine… But I won't agree to the Possibility of leaving when you come back… I Will be going with you to the grand line. There is no room for negotiation.” Kenasai looks to her father who merely shrugs his shoulders. He looks back down to see her pouting. He pats her head, saying, “Okay Saya, just be sure you focus on your recovery first before you start training. As for me, I'll master my power so I can keep you safe.” she replies, “You better. My husband can't be some weakling.” He smiles at her, before he says, “Alright master, I'm leaving her in your hands.” Master Kobayashi says, “You should get going. Every second counts when it comes to training.” Kenasai nods, walking toward the front door. He stops, stating, “There are several people coming over here in a hurry… It's strange, it's almost like… I can feel their presence.” Kenasai opens the door to see three children coming over to see the Master. He puts his palm to his head, expressing a strong pain in his head, as images of the children tripping on the door frame flood into his mind. After several seconds of enduring the pain, the event ended up occurring exactly as he had forseen it. Saya helps the child up, noting Kenasai's concerned expression. Kenasai snaps out of it, teleporting to his ship. Saya ran out of the house after him. Kenasai appears several feet above his ship, crashing down with a loud thud. What was odd, was the fact that he didn't feel any pain upon impact. He felt his back with his right hand, only to notice it felt very solid like metal. He closed his eyes, trying to make the visions and density go away, but the visions just kept flowing at random. He foresees Saya approaching the ship. He had no choice, he couldn't let her see him like this. He teleported again, appearing in one of the busier towns. His head felt like it was splitting in half, he cries out in pain, attracting the attention of the villagers. All of a sudden, an eerie wave pulsates from Kenasai's body in all directions. Once the energy wave ceased, the pain seemed to dissipate as well. Kenasai stood up, noticing that everybody in the village had collapsed in the middle of the streets. Kenasai shakes the nearest man, attempting to awaken him from his slumber, but he was out cold. A set of footsteps echo behind him. It was his master, who seemed concerned for the boy. He said to Kenasai, “So, you're finally awakening your Haki…” Kenasai questions his statement, “Haki? What is this Haki of which you speak?” His master answers, “Haki is a power that lives inside everybody. There are three types of Haki. First is the Color of Observation, which gives you glimpses into the future, but it's mostly during moments when you are in danger. Next is the Color of Armament, which allows one to solidify their body in order to protect, or if used correctly, attack with extra force. It can even be used to harm devil fruit eaters who don't have a physical form. Finally, there is the Color of the Conquerer, a powerful and rare form of Haki that overpowers the wills of others. It is a one in a million chance to be born with it, and it can't merely be Obtained. You have all three of these traits. It is normally second nature to activate these skills, but this emotional scene seems to have forced all three to free themselves from dormancy. Thus, causing pain to one who has never used these powers before.” Kenasai states, “Well, the pain seems to have subsided after I used that Conquerer Haki or whatever. What I don't get is why you seemed to know that I had these abilities before I even knew.” His master chuckled a bit before answering, “That's because you've actually done this once before not long after you arrived on this island. It was when you climbed off that boat, searching for anything to eat. You were caught stealing, but set off your Conquerer Haki. Unfortunately, you were too famished, so you passed out from your own technique. But I saw what had happened. My will was stronger, so I hadn't collapsed. Neither did my daughter to my surprise. So that's the truth. You have always been talented, and you'll go on to do amazing things. Just be sure that you don't worry my daughter too much.” Kenasai stands up from the ground, nodding in agreement. In the blink of an eye, he teleported back to his ship, where Saya was searching for him. He says to her, “I won't make you worry, so have faith that I'll become stronger.” Saya hugs him, before she walks off the boat to see him off. Kenasai sets sail once again, but this time to find a place to do some serious training. He really wished he had a navigator to sail with him, but things will work themselves out.
