Caspian floated in the water off the coast of the jungle. After getting evicted from two freshwater streams he had decided to give the open ocean a chance. So far... he didn't like it. The salt in the water stung in the gaps between his scales and it was hard for him to even keep his eyes open for too long underwater. The waves kept pushing him around and he was afraid that he'd get lost if he went out of sight of shore. After so long spent in streams, the ocean was intimidatingly vast.
He startled as a long silver fish swam by in front of him. What was that? It was almost as long as the length of his tail and with teeth that made it look ready to take a bite out of him. That was one more thing to not like about the ocean, all the fish. He didn't know how to identify any of these fish and knew even less about their habits. Were there fish out here that might attack him? Which were good to eat? He was starting to think that facing the kalonas back in the jungle would be a lot safer than this...

The ocean was indeed vast. And full of stranger things than large fish with sharp teeth. Things that lurked in the deep, dark parts of the waters, only coming to the surface when it pleased them. Usually to hunt. But sometimes their intentions were quite different.
It had been quite some time since she'd seen any of her own kind, even longer still since she'd spoken to one. Her hours at the surface spent focused on interacting with a very different creature. But now. Now her attentions were turned to those like her. She had a mission, and this strange, clean-smelling stallion would have the great fortune of being her first victim.
This wasn't to be a simple meet-and-greet. She couldn't simply approach this other and start up a conversation. Not if she wanted her reputation to spread. She would have to slink through the dark parts of the ocean, only allow him the flash of scales or the light of her eyes. And so she did. He needed to be properly unnerved first. It was the only way, if she wanted Soquili to treat her and tell stories about her like the humans did.

There was a fish that looked good for eating. It was fleshier than the others and with a shape that seemed less predatory. It wasn't the biggest fish he had seen, but he was getting hungry and it was time to make a move. With a powerful thrust of his tail, he shot himself at it.
To his surprise, the fish was much faster than it looked. It blurred away through the water, leaving him chasing after it. His snapping teeth closed on nothing but seawater. Frustrated, he watched as the fish disappeared... past something else in the water. What was that? Caspian felt a chill run over him at the sight of light shining off scales. It was big, whatever it was...
