Hmm... alchemy...
Alchemy:
-A form of mideval witchcraft; said to be derived from the power of the Gods we know today as the four planets: Mercury, Mars, Venus and Jupiter. The Gods' powers were used in those times to compress matter, and do whatever they like with it: change its elemental configuration patterns, change from solid to liquid, etc.
