Lost Tide Cove.

This Is a shallow water cove with calm crystal clear waters and soft sands. An ideal place for hunting stingrays, flounder, and octopi. It’s also a good place to explore, because you never know what you’ll find from day to day. There are boat rentals available to those that don’t live on the island and wish to hunt in the cove. For non locals the rental is $10 per boat per person. Boats are small, but sturdy and buoyant. Locals and relatives of locals can use the boats for free and need not rent them.

Stoneshifter slowly stepped into the cool clear waters of the cove and looked around for a moment. It was a good day. The sun was shining brightly and the cove was as inviting as usual. But then something came hurtling toward him under the water an he knew instantly what it was. A bull shark. One of the many that frequented the cove. It was a mature adult shark, and so it wasn’t small by any means. It probably weighed 400 pounds and had to be 8ft long. It was swimming straight for him, probably to ram him and try to take a bite out of him. Stoneshifter couldn’t have that. He slammed all four fists down on the shark as it reached him and he managed to stun it for a moment. He used this time to pick it up and kill it with his knife. He stood there holding the dying shark up by the tail and once it was dead he let go of it. He then kneeled and pulled 20 of its teeth from its mouth and put these in his rucksack. Then he picked up the dead shark and carried it to deeper water so that it wouldn’t go to waste. Then he headed back to the shallows to see what else he could find.

Stoneshifter slowly walked around until he found a huge conch. He Picked it up and made a hole in the side of the shell to ruin the vacuum of the inside of the shell and allow him to pull the over sized snail out of its shell. He then washed both snail and shell in the water and put the shell in his rucksack. Then he wrapped the meat in cloth and put it in his rucksack as well. Then he continued his hunt; moving on to see what else he could find. Luck was a strange thing in this cove.

Stoneshifter stood very still and didn’t let his tail move very much at all. He didn’t like this. He’d just found a giant stingray weighing 1000 pounds and being 12ft across. He would have to be very careful how he went about this. These things had poisonous flesh and so were not killed for their meat. Their hides and barbs on the other hand were coveted. The barbs were excellent for weapons, and hide perfect for armors and shields. He leaped high out of the water and slammed his knife down between the eyes to kill it. Thankfully he wasn’t impaled on the tail barbs when he jumped, for the ray had attempted to get him. Stoneshifter sighed as the beast finally stopped thrashing and died. He cut off the tail barbs and put them in his rucksack before beginning the long and hard task of skinning the ray for its rough serrated hide. When he was done he washed the hide and rolled it up to put in his rucksack. Then he moved to continue his hunt in another spot. These rays were too heavy to be moved by him at least. So he left the corpse right where it was and continued the hunt.

Stoneshifter walked around for a while, not finding anything. The smell of death was in the water, and so had probably scared away the smaller fish that he could’ve hunted. It was common sense that the death of a giant ray would scare away other fish. Stoneshifter continued his hunt quietly.

Stoneshifter walked slowly, silently, knife at the ready…then he lunged and stabbed downward. He successfully stabbed the Large flounder he’d been following. He killed it, cleaned it, and butchered it for the meat. He took the meat and cleaned it, before putting it in his rucksack. He’d obtained four slabs of flounder meat., which he wrapped and put in his pack. It was a decent amount of meat for the short time he’d been in the cove. Decent and the meat would no doubt taste delicious when grilled. He then continued his hunt around the cove; intent on getting a few more catches. But with this cove, luck was beyond unpredictable.

Stoneshifter Walked along for a while not finding anything. It wasn’t unusual to find nothing in this cove. Luck was a strange thing here. But then he bumped into a piece of floating driftwood. He picked it up and tied it to the back of his rucksack. Then he continued his hunt.

After a few moments of walking Stoneshifter saw an outline in the sandy cove floor and reached down to pick it up. He grabbed it and lifted it out of the water with a smile on his face. It was a an old shark tooth made of stone. A fossil. But the size of it was what surprised him most. It was almost the size of one of his hands. He put it in his rucksack and continued onward.

Stoneshifter continued his hunt and after a while he found something interesting. A chunk of dead coral. It was a rare thing to find, and was fairly valuable. But not for the wealth it could bring. It was very useful in crafting. Great for jewelry, and it was worth a good amount too. He put it in his rucksack and continued onward.

Stoneshifter continued his hunt for what felt like hours, but in reality was only a few minutes. It felt so long because he wasn’t finding game to hunt. Instead he was finding items. He found a small wooden chest and picked it up. He opened it and was pleasantly surprised to see it had 12 small white pearls in it. He closed the chest and put it in his rucksack before continuing onward.

Stoneshifter tread around for a while; checking all the usual spots that were likely to harbor stingrays, and then he found one. It was small, but that didn’t make the barb any less dangerous. He moved so that he was behind it and grabbed its tail. It started trashing and he used his knife to kill it and make sure it didn’t suffer. He then set about cleaning it and butchering it. He took the meat and wrapped it before putting it in in rucksack. He then took the barb and put it in his rucksack as well. Then he moved on.

Stoneshifter walked around continuing his hunt and he found a second large flounder. He had to act fast because it had spotted him, so he leaped forward and used his knife to kill it before it got too far. He skinned it and butchered it for the meat. Four decently sized slabs of flounder meat. He knew he’d be eating well for a few days. But then again, He had a future to think about. A future with a wife. A wife he hadn’t met. He just hopes she liked flounder. Because he’d gotten a good amount of flounder meat in the past hour. Hopefully the two of them would get along, but he doubted it. He was willing to be she was just as angry as he was about being forced into a marriage to someone neither had ever met. He wrapped the flounder meat up and put it in his rucksack.

Stoneshifter smiled as he encountered another small stingray. It was an easy creature to kill, as he quickly did so the safest way he knew how. He grabbed hold of the tail and stabbed his knife down into the back to break the spine. He then set about butchering it and cleaning it. He took the meat and wrapped it before put it and the tail’s barb into his rucksack. This day was definitely a good one. He was quickly obtaining plenty of food and valuable materials for crafting. And he was beginning to form ideas of things he wanted to make.

Stoneshifter smiled as he found another floating piece of driftwood. He picked it up, looked it over, and tied it to the back of his rucksack. He then proceeded to move on. There were always things to find in this cove. And today had been a good day for Stoneshifter. A good day indeed.

Stoneshifter smiled after a while, because his luck just seemed to keep getting better and better. He’d found a salvageable fishing net. This would come in handy in the future, if he didn’t use it in his ideas for armor first. It was a useful multipurpose object. He rolled it up, stuffed it in his rucksack, and continued his hunt.
