This was once a village, but it's name is now irrelevant as it was attacked and devastated completely by enemies who crossed the border. Any survivors have either fled or been captured and dragged away.

Hearth slowed his movements as he found himself in the ruins of what had been a bustling village the last time he'd passed through here. This was a shock. "What happened..." he said slowly as he came to a stop by a pile of rubbish, his horse stopped beside him.

There is a dearth of life in the village, outside the intermittent bird high up in the trees or the soft distant chirping of insects. Wind stirs up and flutters about torn poster papers. The doors throughout the village seem to have a thing against remaining upright. Many are on the ground, leaning against walls, or hanging off of a single hinge. Windows are broken. Wood splintered or burnt. There are signs of a brutal attack everywhere. Blood pools. The occasional corpse as well. It is an ugly sight. Inukuma by and large. At least they used to be. The signs of struggle are more than obvious. One would have to be completely blind to not see the signs that one of the enemies of the Fofaf had attacked. Periodically a rat or other opportunistic creature would pop out of any remaining rubbish or upturned basket of fruits and grains and skitter on away from passersby, only to return to their food. As Hearth walks through with caution, a pair of little eyes watch him nervously from underneath a pile of rubbish and cast aside items that the raiders did not deem worth taking. A tiny sneeze can be heard from under them.

Hearth was devasted by the appearance of the village. All the signs were clear. The enemy had crossed borders and attacked. All the hallmarks were there. It seemed not a single survivor was there. But then he heard a tiny sneeze and looked down at the rubbish pile at his feet. He crouched and used two hands to removed some of the rubbish and one arm to pick up the little girl he found underneath. Even if she protested or tried to get away he would pick her up and hold her gently with two arms, using his third to hold on to the reins of his horse. "Shhh...It's alright Nothing will happen to you now." He held her gently and protectively. He'd found the only survivor, and and while he was happy that she was alright, he was upset that the village had been attacked at all. He held her and tried to comfort her.

Kokoro's tiny legs pinwheel as she 'savagely' attacks his arm with her pinchy tiny teeth. Her arms are pinned, so the only thing she can do with them is flex her little paws on his arms. Her little tail is lashing so much it might as well be a fan or a propeller. "RAWR! Lemme go!" she squawks at him in protest. "You are not gonna steal me! Imma gonna fight you!" As she wriggles, she simply tires out from all of her efforts and goes limp like a little rag. Panting, she simply hangs on his arm with her little teeth dug into his arm. The little cub's ears are laying back but she is starting to get the idea that Hearth is not actually trying to hurt her. His reassuring words finally reach her ears. She, after all, is finally tired enough to listen to him. Releasing her teeth from his fur, they really never were big enough to actually dig all that deeply into his thick hair, she finally looks up at him by lifting her chin and peering up. He seems earnest. A low deep whine starts in her throat and she stats making a cubbish bleating noise. The little cub just breaks down in tears and buries her face into his arm.

Hearth holds onto her through her struggle and holds her gently. When she starts to cry and holds her closer to try to make her feel safe. "I won't let anyone harm you. No one will harm you while I hold you." He held her close and snug, held her gently and reassuringly. He meant every word. He would not allow her to come to harm. He led the horse to the largest building her could find and went inside. He found a fire almost out in it's pit, but he would fix that soon enough. He tied the horse off and put some wood debri on the coals to get the fire going again. A fire would help them stay warm and it would let hearth make dinner for the two of them. He knew he was hungry, and felt that a cub like her had to be hungry too. He continued to hold her reassuringly. as he moved to sit infront of the fire and prepared two moose meat steaks for cooking.

She simply allows him to carry her around and hold her while she cries for a little while longer. When she is all cried out and no more tears will come, she sniffles and rubs her little muzzle with her paws. Transforming into a more Melda form, she appears to be a cute little brown haired girl, albeit with the bear ears on top of her head. She retains the long tail, typical of her kind, and is wearing a filthy blue blouse and skirt. "I am Kokoro. Who are you?" she asks in her soft little child's voice. Her little paws are now hands with claws in place of fingernails. Seeing him start poking the fire back to life, she gets curious. When a flame sparks to life, she reels backwards and rawrs at it in fright. "Don't burn me!" She is frightened, but not without cause. After all, she had just survived a trauma.

"My Name is Hearth." Hearth said in reply. Ht held her closer when she cried out. "I told you I wouldn't let anyone harm you. I meant it." Then he took off his rucksack and from it he took his knife, two moose steaks, and a loaf of stale bread. He used a flat rock next to the fire to toast the bread slowly, and used another almost in the fire to cook the steaks on. The sound of sizzling filled the air and the smell of the meat cooking soon followed. Hearth use his knife to flip the steaks one at a time every couple of minutes, as well as to lift them to check for burned spots. He smiled at Kokoro. "It's quite alright my little Kokoro." He held her in is a way that would feel like a comforting hug as he continued to cook the meat and toast the bread. Then after a moment he checked the steaks again and saw they were ready. He used his claws to removed them from the cooking rock and moved them to a third flat rock. He then started to slice them thin using his knife, and stacking the slices of meat on the stone. Then he took the bread and cut it into 8 thick slices. He then put slices of the still hot moose steak meat on the slices and made 4 sandwiches. Hearth Picked one up and took a bite chewing slowly and almost smiling at how good it tasted. He then used his free arm to pick up a second sandwich and offer it to Kokoro. "Here. Eat it. It's pretty good." And he offered a gentle smile. He knew she had to be hungry.

The small cub sniffles and looks up at her 'captor'. He doesn't seem too mean, though still somewhat scary. Of course, it was only natural that she should fear him. He is a strange man and quite large, too. He had just appeared after her whole clan had been slaughtered by marauders. His efforts to sooth her and put her at ease are not wasted. As he offers her a sandwich she morphs from her beardog form into her more human like melda form. His sandwich is good, if a tad chewy. That is an asset when being fed to a small cub. She growls at her food as she eats it and gnaws on the gristle. Delicate is not a word that one could describe her as having as a quality. Even though she is more human like, her claws and adorable little cupped ears are still very present. So cute. "Gnawr~!"

Hearth smiled as he watched Little Kokoro eat her sandwich. He continued eating his own slowly; chewing carefully and quietly. He would look down at her every now and then to make sure she was alright. He said nothing for the longest time as he thought about what he should do. He decided he'd take care of her, and that meant he was a parent. He remembered his youth when he had a stuffed teddy that he carried with him everywhere he went. It had been his only friend. He could tell little Kokoro didn't seem to have a teddy, so he resolved that in the morning he would take her up the mountain to his tribe's home and retrieve his teddy for her. Then he looked at little kokoro after a few moments and said, "Do you like it?"

The ravenous little cub gnaws on her sandwich happily and tries to nod when asked whether she likes it or not. "Mm hmm!" she replies with a mouthful of food. Since she is still little, the sandwich is so big for her and thus is going to take her longer to eat than it will for Hearth. Her little tail flicks around and into her lap as she settles into his lap contentedly. The little one finally polishes it off and smiles up at him with bits and crumbs and meat juices all over her face. "Yummy." The innocent little creature is quite taken with this caring male. The view from her perspective has changed from captor to caretaker in a short while. "The bear-dog calls out to his bearkin near, shush little cub your papa's near .." she sings the lullaby softly to herself as she starts to doze off.

"Shush little one show no fear, Relax little cub papa's here. Hush little cub please don't cry, you're safe under papa's watchful eye..." Hearth sang gently. He gently held her close and held her safe, as he did his best to keep her comfortable. He smiled down at her and felt pride, joy.

The innocent little creature falls asleep in his arms, resting well for the first time in several days. Her filthy fur betrays the fact that she has not been anywhere near neither a brush nor bath. Her tiny nose twitches in her sleep as she softly moans and growls. Her little paws move of their own accord as she slumbers, as does her tail. "Grrrrr .... rawr ..." escapes from her lips. Slipping back into her bestial form, she stretches her slight frame and twitches her skinny limbs. "Grrrrlll ... gnarrrr ...." She would probably slide off of his lap if he wasn't holding her. After a while of slumbering, she finally awakens and looks up at him with a slight startle and then relaxes remembering that he was the nice male that had fed her and given her a safe feeling. "RAWR!" she squawks up at him and playfully 'attacks' his arm since she is feeling frisky and playful right now.

Hearth smiled as he watched her sleep. She looked so cute. And when she woke up wanting to play, he was ready He rose to his feet and held her up with his arms, and started to pretend to fly her around the room. He was very careful with her, and very, very gentle. He held her high as he walked around being careful to not let her hit anything and being careful to not frighten her. If She got scared at any moment, He would instantly hug her gently and comfort her.

Little Kokoro spreads her little arms wide and she wags her tail. "Wheeee~! I'm a birdie!" she cheers with delight. This big bear is so much fun, she has decided. He is the nicest person she has met since her parents. The little one misses her family and pack, but he is helping that pain to go further into the back of her mind. A wild look of amusement is on her face for now. A pleasant change of pace for her. She flaps her little arms as though they were wings and grawrls out little beardog noises.
