Do you know where the name came from?
I do.
Let's see, during the end Persian War {Athens vs. Persia & Sparta}, there was a soldier named Marathon. Athens won the war, suprisingly, so he ran all the way through Greece, through the mountains and hills and reached Athens and with his last breath he said, "We won" and he died.

Did he really die? I knew thats what happened but i don't remember him dying. Though it was a long time ago.

Kingshortpants They won I dont see what the big rush was I would of taken my time ....in the end he didnt win he died xp Because otherwise they would have sent more armies for no reason, costing far to much in food and gold. Personally I would have died as well, but I'm more of a water person when it comes to endurance.

That's actually an incredible story. That sounds familiar but I don't recall it. Says a lot about the human race though if you really break it down I think. Very breathtaking in a way.
