So I got these from a random plot generator, and I figured, hey, since these seem really cool, why not put em up here and see if we can spring a RP from them? So, er, some of the more interesting ones I found were as follows; "This is a road trip tale with an undercurrent about revenge. The story is about greedy newscasters. It starts in a bakery in a capital city. The story begins with a lecture and ends with growth" "The story is about ten princes. It starts in a universe where space travel occurs by magical means. The story begins with someone going to sleep, climaxes with a surgery, and ends with a birth. Recovering magical artifacts and knowledge is a major part of the story." "This is an action adventure. The story is about a princess on the wrong side of the law, and an accomplice. It starts on our world after a disaster brought about the return of magic. The crux of the story involves someone doing laundry. The need to kill someone to stop a prophecy from coming true is an important part of the story." "The story is about an alliance of jailers. It starts in a forest kingdom on a magical world where everyone lives underground. The creation of a magical artifact plays an important role." "The story is about an open-minded treasure-hunter who must work with an ignored occultist. It takes place on a world that actually consists of many worlds-inside-worlds. The story ends with an accident while traveling. A magical artifact plays an important role." I'm totally game for this if anyone else is! (also, the generator I was using as this one)

I wonder how difficult that would be. Definitely an awesome website!!! biggrin I will put it on the "Thread Type Listing" sticky as well as in the 1v1subforum. smile

I wonder how difficult that would be. Mmm, well I imagine, they would be on the run. Either running away from the law, or chasing after the target (perhaps the person they need to kill finds out the princess and accomplice are after them) would make the task hard, but necessary. Especially since it's modern day, and there are surveillance cameras everywhere, even in little towns, that could potentially be hacked into. It could take either a lot of makeup/disguise planning or a lot of untested and potentially life threatening magic to keep their location, and or their identity safe, and get their laundry done. Not to mention time- as the princess might not pack light, or the two might have a LOT of laundry to do, and transportation.

Doctor Acinemod Irralius Totally! I'm extremely excited! sweet! So, for the disaster that brought magic back, the first thing to come to mind is some sort of nucular , Chernobyl-type thing, or perhaps a thing with the mother of all solar flairs, or volcanoes. And, I imagine, that the princess/royal family mentioned in the idea would be keepers of the prophecy, keeping it secret from the public. Maybe its something like, "Upon the return of magic, the one behind it will destroy all goodness/the world/something important" and turns out the royal family is tasked with making sure the thing doesn't happen. I'm thinking it starts somewhere in Europe(because they have a s**t-ton of little kingdom/country things) sound good?

Ready yourself for this very long thought process.
So, I do like the idea of some solar flair, but when I think about magic I think of the moon. Maybe the moon entirely disappears or it draws extremely close to the earth consistently, creating more of a pull on the living organisms on the planet. Maybe that could be what draws out of or infuses into magic in people. We also have to consider that maybe operating in our world is not the best as defining magic in a world defined by science could make things at least extremely difficult and at most extremely complicated. If we could, instead, operate in a world of our own creation and disregard what is real and true to us in our existing reality on this planet then we can begin to accept the idea of the return of magic to a planet that isn't ours.
But if we are dealing in a world where magic has returned then we must determine the way in which it disappeared in the first place and that would ultimately define the mechanism/event/happening by which it returned. The plot we are given suggests that the world we are creating is experiencing a return of magic because of a disaster. It does nothing to define the disaster, which is a word used to describe something (meaning its subject to some level of opinion). Since the plot we are given does not define the disaster then we can make it any sort of disaster we like.
Disaster : noun : a sudden event, such as an accident or a natural catastrophe, that causes great damage or loss of life.
Another definition of "disaster" is this: An event or fact that has unfortunate consequences.
Anything you want to call a disaster can be a disaster, but it has to make sense. If all the magic was sealed in a book that was kept in the royal library and a huge solar flair happens or the moon comes much closer to the planet than it should, but neither does anything to affect the integrity of the book, then it makes no sense to believe that either of those events had anything to do with the return of magic.
This brings me to several of questions.
What is the source of all magic? Are there several difference sources of magic? Who or what sealed the magic away? For what reason was magic sealed away? How was magic sealed away? What could break the seal? Are there any laws in magic? Where does magic derive itself from? Nature? Willpower? Bloodlines?
I am unsure if we should define the world before we define the magic or if our world is heavily defined by magic and in defining magic we are defining the world.
However... "Upon the return of magic, the one behind it will destroy all goodness/the world/something important." This I love. I really couldn't agree more. I could really just HUG you over this one. smile
Let me know if I've gone overboard and sorry for the wait.

Let me know if I've gone overboard and sorry for the wait. hah, that's not even close. the small font makes it seem like a lot, but it's fine. I've done much worse (UuU') An', hiatuses are a-ok, with forewarning. Hm.. I think that we should define the magic first- that way, we can better build the worlds' reaction to having it all taken away. Kinda like, defining electricity before the society dependant on it, so we can figure out what would happen if it was all gone, if that makes sense. As for the list, Quote: What is the source of all magic? Are there several difference sources of magic? Who or what sealed the magic away? For what reason was magic sealed away? How was magic sealed away? What could break the seal? Are there any laws in magic? Where does magic derive itself from? Nature? Willpower? Bloodlines?
I'm thinking something like... The source of magic is space-related, and not natural to the world. There are items which bring it close- at first, the moon did i (and if we're following cool sciency facts, moons often start to go away from a planet after a while),then maybe some kind of man-made dinglehopper-nonsense to make it more efficient. Then, wands/staffs(staves???)/books/etc would be used to direct the magic, and spells (said in the head or out loud) would be used to cast spells (like in kids shows when the characters have to call out the name of their attacks). Spells probably would be heavily regulated, so not a lot of people would know more than basic spells (like making campfires, or levetating things like cast iron pans a foot or two off the ground). I think that there should be different regions, with their own kind of dinglehopper-whatever- Like, maybe cold countries have things to make most magic based on fire, or dry countries to have water-summoning magic things. (or we could pull an ATLAB thing and have wet nations have water magic, and so on). As for who/what drove the magic away, I'm not sure. Perhaps, people became so reliant on it, that they overloaded the dinglehopper-things? maybe war? Or maybe an anti-magic movement through out the lands. How it was sealed away.. I'm thinking, maybe they(the dinglehopper tings that I need a shorter name for) were driven into the core of the planet (like, maybe with gravity increasing on them or something)... Or, maybe they're kinda floaty, and need to be tied down, but when overloaded they break the tethers, and fly off into space? hm, but how to reverse it.. Well, if it's the first scenario, they just need to be dug up, and for the second.. That's tricky. Maybe rebuilt? We know this needs to be some sort of disaster, so I'm thinking, maybe it's kinda like making a philosopher's stone in FMA- you gotta kill a bunch of people to do the thing. Maybe it requires so much stuff, that intense slavery comes back up. maybe both? As for laws... I dunno. I'm thinking that one just needs to find the right spell, and they could do some crazy things. Spell creation, though, probably is extremely dangerous- especially if you're trying to make an ungodly strong spell. Maybe in extreme failures, the spellsmith is unraveled at the molecular level, into thin air or something. just completely obliterated. Not to mention, you have to pronounce and remember every single spell correctly to get it to work, and the more powerful ones are longer and harder. There's probably a limit to how insane spells can get, too, but I'm not sure where that lies. As for the last point.. isn't it a bit the same as the first? I think the potency would depend on the tool used to direct the magic (IE maybe books suck and staves are the best), how clearly the spell is said/pronounced, and maybe how close to one of the dinglehopper-things(seriously I need a better name for them ugh) the caster is. Maybe willpower comes into play, though. And probably, the upperclass has access to more and more spells that the lower class doesn't/isn't allowed to.
