He comes from a filthy rich and noble backround and very often brags of it. He can never really become close to anyone, because of the hurt and anger from his past. His mother cheated on his father with his father's brother. He had a male tutor as a child who took advantage of him. The one adult figure who seemed to care most for Adelheid was the butler named Gregor. He truly seems to miss the young master when he is away and spent the most time with him when he was a child. Adelheid doesn't seem to have the same affection for the butler but there is a deep respect there. His father forced an arranged marriage to a wealthy countess, and she still searches for Adelheid to this day. The all around stress and horror of his childhood made him run off, where he used his noble name to make it to the DWMA.

When faced on the subject of his sexuality, well, same thing.
