Applegate City Pokémon Center

The Pokémon Center is a facility for weary travelers and their Pokémon to rest after a long day's journey. It is run by Nurse Joy and her faithful Pokémon assistants, Chansey and Audino. There are plenty of rooms for the travelers to rest upstairs on the second floor, as well as a cafeteria if they're hungry. There are also PC's, video phones and even a trade center for anyone to use if needed.

Please enjoy your stay with us!

"The human mind is like a parachute...

It was getting late by the time Regal made it to the Pokémon Center, but thankfully the cafeteria was still open. Both him and his team were starving, so he wasted no time in ordering and getting down to business. The local special was creamy mushroom pasta, and the ravenous trainer went through four plates, not including soup and salad, before he was satisfied. Once Regal and his Pokémon had finished eating, he got himself a room key from Nurse Joy and went straight to the shower.

He took his time for a change, taking mental inventory while letting the hot water cascade over his body. He had made good time since leaving Nix City, and had managed to catch tons of new Pokémon on his way to Applegate. His supplies were running low, so he would need to hit up the Pokémart first thing tomorrow. It was also time for him to start training up for his gym battle. He had overheard a pair of locals talking in the cafeteria about a famous dojo nearby that specialized in teaching Pokémon new moves, which sounded very promising. There was a famous dojo back in his hometown as well, though Regal had been privately instructed instead of being allowed to learn with the other students. This would be a good opportunity to shake the rust off of his martial arts skills.

The trainer eventually got out of the shower and toweled off before changing into a light pair of shorts and a thin t-shirt to sleep in. He had eaten quite a bit of garlicy pasta, so he took extra time brushing his teeth and gargling mouthwash before allowing himself to go to bed. He was asleep within minutes, and woke up early chock full of energy. Which was great, since he had a lot to do. Starting with breakfast.

After his repeated coffee failures in the forest, Regal drank the black nectar with glee as he filled up on eggs, sausage and baked beans on toast. Once he was finished, the trainer took another cup of coffee to go and sipped it slowly as he looked over the various Pokémon he had caught on one of the centers PCs. He wanted to try battling with Magnolia for a bit, since he had rarely done so since catching her. After some consideration, he got in touch with Professor Hemlock and swapped out Terra from his party so he could add her back into the rotation. With the Cutiefly now buzzing happily out of her ball, Regal pulled up a Town Map on his Pokégear and began making his way to the Pokémart.

After his relaxing soak at the local bathhouse, Regal was aching to eat a good dinner. Pork chops and mashed potatoes with gravy and salad reinvigorated the trainer's tired body as he went through plate after plate of the hearty food. His team, still recovering from their hard day of training, was also enthusiastic as they tucked into their meal. Yamamotos intense training regimen had left all of them feeling downright ravenous.

Once they were finished eating, the trainer returned to his room and got straight to work on the homework the master had left for him. Laying the drawing supplies out on a table, Regal set a timer and began practicing. Simultaneously, he was supposed to draw a circle with one hand while drawing a triangle with the other. An impossible task in his opinion, but he tried his best anyway. Yamamoto had been doing right by him so far, so there was no reason to start doubting him now.

After completing an hour of practice as promised, Regal finally decided to call it quits and starting packing away his utensils for the night. He couldn't really tell if his shapes were getting any better or worse, but he reasoned that the most important thing was that he had remained committed for the full hour. He would have also liked to get some studying in as well, but the trainer had the sneaking suspicion that Master Yamamoto was going to expect him to be ready bright and early. Even if he wasn't, the extra rest would be good for his tired muscles. With that last thought in mind, Regal turned out the lights and crawled into bed. It was probably the fastest he had ever fallen asleep.

The trainer was already stirring when Yamamoto called him, and the childish part of him took great pleasure in hearing the sound of surprise on the other line as he reported that he was not only already awake, but would be ready for training after a quick shower and breakfast. Steak and eggs was usually a bit much first thing in the morning, but Regal anticipated that he would appreciate the extra protein by the time his day was finished. Swiping a bagel to munch on the way to the dojo, the trainer wondered for the upteenth time what his new sensei would have planned for his second day of training. Whatever it was though, he would face it head on.

"The human mind is like a parachute...

Another full day of training under Master Yamamoto had left Regal eager for a good dinner to recharge his batteries. Seafood was the special of the evening tonight, so the trainer indulged himself with multiple plates of garlicy grilled shrimp, seafood gumbo and crab fried rice. Once he and his team had eaten their fill, Regal made his way over to his room and got himself settled for the evening. His training wasn't finished just yet.

After some debate, the young man settled on a relaxing jazz soundtrack and allowed himself to be lost in the music as he went about his drawing exercises for Yamamoto. He diligently spent the next hour drawing circles with one hand while drawing triangles with the other simultaneously, but once again failed to see any improvement after his time was up. The doodles looked just as messy and childish as they had last night. Reminding himself that this was only his second day, Regal packed away his drawing utensils and set the drawings aside to give to Yamamoto in the morning.

With his drawing practice over, the trainer turned his attention to his Pokégear and resumed his studies from where he had last finished off the other day. It seemed as if every region had at least one fighting type specialist of note in the history books. Whether they were gym leaders or members of the regional elite four, there was no question that the fighting type was a force to be reckoned with when trained properly. Once again, what struck a cord with Regal was all the differentiating fighting styles presented by the various experts. Some focused on power, while others utilized their speed. Some, like Master Yamamoto had done yesterday, preferred to take it slow and use their opponents own strength against them. The possibilities seemed endless. Which made his planning that much harder.

Considering how young Ken was, Regal had a hunch that he wouldn't be utilizing the same slow and steady approach as his master. Which meant that he should be ready for high power or speed. Or maybe a blend of both. It kind of hurt to spend yet more money on TMs, but Regal remembered seeing a Reflect TM for sale at the local Poké Mart. Considering his opponent, it seemed like a wise investment. He would need to pay them a visit at some point tomorrow.

As he stirred from his sleep the next morning, Regal stretched lazily and then padded over to the bathroom to brush his teeth. He expected Yamamoto to call on him bright and early as he had done yesterday, but was surprised to see his Pokégear remain silent. Shrugging his shoulders, the trainer took a quick shower and then gathered up his team for breakfast. Six plates of eggs later, and there was still no word from the master. Concerned, Regal sent a quick message asking if everything was alright before getting up to leave. He would make a quick pit stop at the Poké Mart and then head for the dojo. Hopefully everything would be alright.

"The human mind is like a parachute...

It was late by the time Regal and Yamomoto returned to the city. They split ways at the entrance, with the master returning to his home and the student making his way to the Pokémon Center. He was still in time for dinner, so the first thing Regal did was make a beeline for the cafeteria. He and his team celebrated the end of their training camp with a hearty dinner of spaghetti and meatballs, with plenty of leafy salad, soup and garlic bread to accompany it. It wasn't especially fancy, but after nothing but rice, fish and mushrooms for almost a week, it was like heaven.

Afterwards, Regal enjoyed an extra long shower while the rest of his team began to settle down for the night. He contemplated his next moves as the waters cascaded off him. His training was over, and Ken the gym leader was finally back in town. Tomorrow Regal would finally be battling for his second badge. Physically and mentally, the trainer felt that he and his team had never been stronger. They just needed to perform tomorrow the same way they'd done at the coast.

After he finished bathing and drying his hair, the trainer did his usual hour of drawing practice before reviewing the notes he had taken in his journal. He had been able to see a lot of fighting Pokémon firsthand during his training camp, and Regal felt confident that his team was prepared for tomorrow. So tonight, he would focus on studying his opponent. From what he and Jarvis had found online, Ken Reacher was the youngest of this regions gym leaders. He had only held the position for a year and a half so far and he wasn't really big on social media, so data was rather limited.

Fortunately for him, Ken had participated in several live battles to help promote both his gym and dojo, so Regal was still able to get some information on his fighting style. It seemed more unique compared to other fighting-type specialists, with Ken using moves like U-Turn and Baton Pass to constantly switch his Pokémon up for hit and run tactics while keeping them healthy with his signature Drain Punch. Now that he thought about, Regal seemed to recall Yamamoto doing the same thing with his Mienshao. Maybe that had been the inspiration for Kens current style? It wouldn't surprise him.

If its a battle of attrition, then Icarus and Magnolia are my best bet. He decided as he kept reading. They both know Reflect, they both have a type advantage and they also have that combination move they used against Master Yamamoto as a secret weapon. It's got to be them.

After a bit more reading, Regal finally called it a night and let himself succumb to a deep sleep. He woke up just after eight, and had his team join him for a morning run and warm up before returning to the Pokémon Center for a shower and some breakfast. His stomach was just a little queasy from nerves, so the trainer opted for some oatmeal with Razz Berries and tea to ease his gut before the big moment. Once he was feeling more calm, Regal reviewed his game plan for the third time before he felt ready to leave for the gym. It was time. He was ready to get that badge.
