I thought that a few members (myself included) might benefit from having this thread around. The subject is group therapy and here you can simply vent about a bad review, not getting enough feedback on your work, getting completely blindsided by the death of a character in your fandom, or anything that's bothering you. You can even vent about things that aren't related to fandoms.
When your mind is troubled and bogged down with various concerns, it becomes difficult to focus on living in the moment and it can begin to impact various aspects of your life- not just the fan-related parts. Now, as individuals who are passionate about specific fandoms, it can be difficult to find someone willing to listen to your troubles, especially if the person listening thinks that what bothers you is trivial.
I know that sometimes being a fangirl/fanboy is stigmatized, so I'm hoping that this will help individuals who don't have friends in their fandoms or friends who are fanfiction writers or fanartists. The concept of this thread might seem odd to some of you, but I personally don't have anyone in my life who writes fanfics or anyone who can understand my frustration with writer's block or random, nasty reviews. They either don't understand why a stranger's rude comment about something I worked so hard on is making me so upset because it's only fanfiction, or they get a little condescending because of the fact that I write fanfiction.
Anyway, if you post on here just know that no matter what at least one person is willing to listen and give advice if asked (if you don't even want me to respond and you just want to be left alone to vent, that works too). Despite my username, I'm actually a rather compassionate individual. And, well, if you're too embarrassed to post on here because your username doesn't offer the right amount of anonymity for you, you can always pm me. But I'll be here. Heck, I might even be the first one to use this as a way to vent! emotion_yatta

I recently had an anonymous reviewer comment just to state : "It could have been longer."
I was so mad! >.<

Night Kunoichi I recently had an anonymous reviewer comment just to state : "It could have been longer." I was so mad! >.< I completely understand where you're coming from. I remember a time when just getting a review was what thrilled me but now as I've written more and more, I find myself really wanting for content in those reviews. And in the case of your specific anonymous review, it lacks anything to really go on. What does the reviewer expect you to do? Do they want you to completely revamp an entire chapter? That's a bit of a ridiculous request especially if the content of the chapter isn't lacking at all and it's just personal preference for "long" chapters on the reviewer's part. confused Ha! I wasn't the first to use this!

Sorry. sad I don't know what the reviewer was expecting. A complete overhaul of your story? That's quite a ridiculous request/suggestion.

Night Kunoichi I remember one of my first flames was an anon reader telling me to go die in a forest fire....I was fourteen.... Okay, things like that just piss me off. This is why you have so many people who are afraid to publish their stories. You get some jerk who has gained a bit of courage because of the anonymity from hiding behind their computer screen and they think it's cool or edgy to bash on people who have the courage to show the world their work. I have zero tolerance for flames. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but I'm happy that that jackass didn't keep you from publishing your wonderful stories. heart

This still bugs me, honestly. One of my Harry Potter stories is that Harry has Dissociative Identity Disorder. This little t**t anon-reviewed twice and said I didn't know anything about DID and I was just making it up, despite both me and one of my friends being like "uh...no," because I've got DID, my friend does, and we both have researched a s**t-ton out of it. But no, we're both faking and I don't "portray it right"...
Because it doesn't end up reading like a clinical assessment, basically. Yes. I'm sorry my story doesn't read like it's straight out of the DSM. It's intended to be a story. To entertain people. Of course I'm not going to just bloody list every single diagnostic criteria the way you apparently want me to. Nobody's forcing you to read it. rolleyes

Your experience just stinks of someone who was wanting to b***h about anything. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who do that. Like I had a reviewer say that they weren't going to read my story anymore because it has two main characters. In the summary I stated that there's more than one OC and yet the reviewer decided ten chapters in that that isn't something they want to read.

I have a question for anyone willing to answer: Is it odd of me to get irritated when I get all excited that I received a review only to see that the review in question is actually a request for me to update a different story?

Violent Crow I have a question for anyone willing to answer: Is it odd of me to get irritated when I get all excited that I received a review only to see that the review in question is actually a request for me to update a different story? No, I'd be really annoyed, too. If they want a different story to be updated, why don't they go review that story. emotion_donotwant
(Also yeah, that was just...guh. I love when I'm accused of making up my own experiences. rofl )

Night Kunoichi I recently had an anonymous reviewer comment just to state : "It could have been longer." I was so mad! >.< I've had a few anonymous reviewers on some of my stories. The negative anon reviews are the worst, though. (Closest to a negative review that I've had so far is just someone making a remark on my earliest chapters, because I didn't know that new quote meant new paragraph, but I've seen a lot of them on my friend's stories and it just pissed me off.) Seriously, it's like they use the "Anonymous" thing as an excuse to be an a*****e! D:<
