And I was wondering: How do you talented writers balance classes/a job and your stories? I find it to be a bit of a difficult and tedious task; often finding myself holding back on updating stories in my normal frenzied manner and instead posting a single chapter a month. As I've progressed through the ranks in college, I've realized that the schedule really does get intense and it's not just some myth fabricated by high school teachers who are looking to scare some slackers straight. So although one chapter a month sounds lame when I say it aloud, it's really the only thing that's doable at the moment... Unless some lovely person can give me some pointers. emotion_bigheart
By the way, one tactic that I use is bringing a notepad with me everywhere so that I can jot stuff down. It's helpful and a bit annoying since I can get a lot of ideas down the second they come to me but when I go to write the chapter later I have to elaborate on the bizarre chunks that I've thrown down all throughout a ratty notepad. Still, it serves its purpose.

Ugh...fall semester...that's coming up for me too. I don't know why, but I write better the less time I have. Like right now, I have plenty of time to write--I'm even stocked up on ideas too--but the motivation to is pretty much nonexistent.
I usually squeeze out chapters around midterms. Or when I have trouble sleeping between school/work.

Or when I have trouble sleeping between school/work. You know... I've found that the same thing is true of myself as well. When there's a time crunch or I'm feeling significant pressure from classes (midterms... ugh) I need an outlet more than ever and writing is perfect. So, yeah! Although it's not exactly the healthiest method, stress definitely encourages me to write frequently.

Designate a day or two a week that you spend writing. Or even a certain hour. Eventually you'll set a habit and a rhythm that could carry over even after the semester is over leaving things consistent.

I think I currently (subconsciously) set myself up on a writing schedule but unfortunately it's a bit of an unrealistic one for when the semester starts. I doubt I'll be able to continue to write in the wee hours of the morning when I have exams to cram study for.

i have alooot of time on my hands considering i graduated only problem is most of my time is spent on looking for a job that just doesn't seem to happen so i'm constantly searching for jobs and when i get super depressed about not finding one as fast as i want then i usually start writing? ...and when i was in school..i was lucky to be a fast worker so i never really had homework to bring home.

Ah, I just saw this! Sorry about that. Have you found a job? How is your writing coming along? Ya know, it's kinda funny that for me, when my life is falling apart around me, that's when I write my best stuff. It's pretty interesting.

Balance? What is this 'balance' of which you speak?
If I'm in the middle of a story, I will jot down notes in a notebook while on my breaks then transfer that into a word document on my computer when I get home. I don't actually write the stories however until I have a day off.
