I'm not entirely sure of what to say on this so I'll let you guys/gals read this.
This convo is from skype which happened today. I'm still not sure what to say of it or really if I should say anything..
I'm Topaz Flower by the way.

[6:00:33 AM] The Topaz Flower: well that would be enough for one person to live on.
[6:09:28 AM] jerky: yeah, plus in going to be start working on leather crafting
[6:10:15 AM] The Topaz Flower: leather crafting?
[6:11:14 AM] jerky: making goods out of leather, like wallets, bags, belts, purses, saddles, boots, pouches, keychain fobs, and stuff like that
[6:12:29 AM] jerky: theres a man in the larger town 31 miles south, who says i show a natural talent for it, and with all the ranchers, and cowboys that live out here, leather crafting makes some good money if you stick with it and get good at it
[6:12:56 AM] jerky: a good saddle can fetch you a few 1,000 $ but only cost a few houndred bucks to make
[6:14:50 AM] jerky: spinding 400$ on materials, can make enough goods to bring in 700$ if you have the skill. he wants me to start off with kits, and gain experience from that, before he will teach me how to cut and shape leather into the parts needed for making items out of
[6:15:30 AM] jerky: how ever, if i move.....
[6:17:01 AM] jerky: leather crafting is a dieing art, cowboys and ranchers still want high quality hand made leather goods
[6:17:29 AM] jerky: but there isn't many people out there willing to learn the trade
[6:28:26 AM] The Topaz Flower: well, good luck to you. Though I do believe an office job or a modern job would be much easier.
[6:29:19 AM] jerky: pffft
[6:29:24 AM] jerky: i hate office work
[6:30:06 AM] jerky: besides, some one has to do it
[6:31:48 AM] jerky: i live in Oklahoma, theres a lot of ranching and farming, and rodeos out here, they use a lot of leather goods and prefer hand made goods... sooooo
[6:33:41 AM] The Topaz Flower: I guess you live in the country then?
[6:34:28 AM] jerky: small town, that looks like its out of an eastwood movie
[6:38:20 AM] The Topaz Flower: never seen that movie.
[6:38:32 AM] jerky: lol
[6:38:40 AM] jerky: john wayan?
[6:39:25 AM] The Topaz Flower: o-O ?
[6:39:46 AM] jerky: have you seen any western movie before? O_o
[6:40:40 AM] The Topaz Flower: no, the only movies I watch are sci-fi, adventure, animated (cartoon), or ballets/plays.
[6:41:04 AM] jerky: sci-fi, so did you see cowboys and aliens?
[6:42:29 AM] The Topaz Flower: well no when I say sci-fi I mean like the matrix or something along the lines of Aliens.
[6:42:40 AM] jerky: sigh....
[6:42:49 AM] jerky: hold on one moment.
[6:42:54 AM] The Topaz Flower: ok
[6:45:02 AM] *** jerky sent 4f554eef46a7171da5c5c7302a03d817.jpg ***
[6:45:25 AM] jerky: this is the town i live in, small town, that is pretty much the same as it was in 1909
[6:46:36 AM] The Topaz Flower: ah ok
[7:18:46 AM] jerky: well I'm heading to bed. I didn't get much sleep the other day, so im heading to bed.
[7:36:56 AM] The Topaz Flower: alrighty have a good rest.
[7:43:29 AM] jerky: ill try to. need to find an extra 260$, i need 580$ to buy tools and the kits to start learning the leather working trade. I don't want to dip to far into the cash for food for the month, so i put all my smokeing money for the month with what was left over from bills into the found for starting this thing, but I'm 260$ short. So It will have to be next month, or i buy the tools with what i have, and some of the starting kits,
[7:43:40 AM] jerky: and books next month
[7:44:05 AM] jerky: oh who am i kidding, im to excited about this to sleep
[7:44:32 AM] jerky: i feel like a kid waiting for Christmas morning to come around O____O
[7:44:51 AM] The Topaz Flower: lol well I do hope it goes well for you. smile
[7:45:01 AM] jerky: oh i do to
[7:45:32 AM] jerky: Cus if i get good at it, theres a good chance i can get some of the sheriff deputies to buy some gun holsters from me o.o
[7:46:04 AM] The Topaz Flower: that would be something to be proud of.
[7:46:22 AM] jerky: Im about to embark on a way of doing things that has not been done in America since the 1950s
[7:46:57 AM] jerky: learning a trade skill from some one who already knows the trade without going to school to learn it
[7:47:23 AM] jerky: and working for him until im good enough to start my own shop
[7:47:53 AM] The Topaz Flower: It sounds like alot of work, but I'm sure you can do it.
[7:48:04 AM] jerky: If you put time into leather working, you can make items that will last for 80 years
[7:48:53 AM] The Topaz Flower: I've heard that leather is very expensive though.
[7:49:00 AM] jerky: not really
[7:49:32 AM] jerky: its not the leather that is, its a combination of the leather, and the labor put into making the items
[7:49:41 AM] jerky: as well as the kind of leather
[7:49:54 AM] The Topaz Flower: There are different types?
[7:50:48 AM] jerky: cowhide is the most common choice. but theres also alligator, bull, shark, skunk, deer, elk, bear, antelope, rabbit, and raccoon
[7:51:17 AM] jerky: all leather is, is tanned anime skin with the fur removed, tanned, and cured
[7:51:29 AM] The Topaz Flower: ._.
[7:52:10 AM] jerky: but different anime skin has deferent qualities, those qualities determine the price.
[7:53:47 AM] jerky: fake leather is growing in price due to the animal rights activist and vegetarians gaining popularity. How ever that fake leather is a rip off.
[7:54:10 AM] jerky: it's not as durable and tares way to easy.
[7:55:04 AM] jerky: if leather isn't your thing, your better off going with nylon or something
[7:55:31 AM] jerky: any ways, leather working is a form of art
[7:55:48 AM] The Topaz Flower: I've seen alot of police using black holsters but they where not leather.
[8:00:02 AM] jerky: there mostly plastic or nylon. it's standard issue. but it can be replaced with leather holsters, how ever, our sheriff's department deputies, the under sheriff and the sheriff use .45 revolvers over the standard berretta 9 mils you see cops in the cities using. The sheriff wears his on an old west styled gun belt made of leather with a leather holster. the deputies and under sheriff however use plastic holsters they where issued
[8:02:13 AM] The Topaz Flower: ah ok, well I do hope you're able to keep up with all the demands you'll have.
[8:13:40 AM] jerky: well, leather working is pretty easy, my first step will be to make the items, they are blank, like a blank coin die, when some one wants custom stuff done to it, it is mostly just adding decorative designs to the leather, with is added using a number of stamps, and a hammer to hammer the pattern into the leather. that takes only a few minutes to do. so it shouldn't be to much work.
[8:14:41 AM] jerky: and like i said, the guy i talked to said i showed natural talent for it
[8:14:45 AM] jerky: well im heading to bed
[8:16:43 AM] The Topaz Flower: alrighty, have a good rest.
jerky logged out**

This person does not know that I am vegetarian, nor that I believe all animals should have rights. I remained calm and collected as shown above but I am posting this to see what other opinions are. Have I done the right thing?

Update:
This is another convo that I have found myself in...

[6:51:38 AM] jerky: some how, a kitten got into the hotel and tore hell out of the kitchen, we just caught him and put him out side o.o that's the second cat to get in here and we filled in the hole the last one used to get in here
[6:52:23 AM] The Topaz Flower: o-O I wonder how it got in.
[6:52:36 AM] jerky: don't know
[6:55:19 AM] jerky: but unlike the last cat, this one didn't bite the s**t out of me when I caught it. it was friendly, just scared. I released it out side. hope it dosent geet back in
[6:56:22 AM] The Topaz Flower: im glad it didnt bite you
[6:59:06 AM] jerky: me to, standard practice if a star cat bits you, is to catch it, or kill it, send it to the vet, the vet thin cuts its head off and send the head off to be examined for rabies.
[6:59:48 AM] The Topaz Flower: ............
[7:00:53 AM] jerky: what? that's what they do. they thin mark it down if it has rabies. It helps keep people safe.
[7:04:08 AM] jerky: they need samples of the brain tissue for the test, I was told theres no other way to test for rabies. any ways, it didn't happen with this kitten. that last cat... the results came back that it had rabies...

I have not replied to this message yet, I'm not sure of what to say..

1. He's right that killing an animal and having a professional look at their brain is the only way to know for sure if an animal has rabies. However, he described a situation where he grabbed a cat and it bit him. That's a pretty normal response from a probably stray cat who doesn't know him. So there was no reason to think the animal had rabies. So killing the cat to see if it had rabies might be standard practice where he lives. But in general, it's not standard practice (especially since cats aren't wild animals and the cat could therefore belong to someone). In that situation, the cat would usually be brought to a shelter, to a vet, or to animal control to be put under observation (in other words, they'd put the cat in a cage and watch to see if rabies symptoms develop). And the person who was bit would usually get a rabies shot themselves (especially if they weren't able to catch the cat to put it in observation) to be safe. After any animal bite, a person should see a doctor anyway. That's especially true after a cat bite because cats have bacteria in their saliva that can cause some really nasty infections.

2. Is this a person that you're kind of close to? If not, I probably just wouldn't reply and would stop talking to them altogether if I were you. Because it's apparent that I have nothing in common with them. And if you're into animal rights, then you probably don't either.

But if you're kind of close despite your differences and don't want to cut them out completely, then I would probably recommend saying something like, "I'm actually really into animal rights and am a vegetarian. I know that you're not, and I'm not going to try to change your mind on it. But can we agree to disagree and not talk about things like leather and killing cats?" From there, it's about whether or not he respects you and your friendship enough to respect your wishes and stop talking about that stuff in front of you.

Hi and thank you for the response! Where I live it is not common to kill any animal to check if the animal has rabies, they do other tests and confirm from that is the animal does, then they put it to sleep with no pain. This person and I are not close. Honestly I don't actually even know this person I just met them through a guild we where in together and added them. Bad idea now I know... You are right, I won't be replying to this person anymore since all they seem to talk about is killing animals. Thank you again for the advice.

The only way to confirm rabies is to test the brain. There are no other tests out there that can confirm rabies. As Lorien mentioned, domestic animals are usually kept under quarantine for 10 days to see if any symptoms develop, and then are released back to the owner if it's all clear. Wild mammals that have bitten someone, however, must be euthanized on the spot and sent to a rabies lab to test the brain.

This is true but the man who originally was in this convo said that a cat had gotten to him or at least his hotel, and was killed on spot. They found rabies virus in the cat however. I'm not sure how much of what this guy says is true though, he also has claimed before that his father is buried on the property and that it's haunted..

That is what I began thinking as well, he seems very off every time we got into a convo. Which is why I stopped speaking to him. It might be unfair to label someone over the internet as crazy or off but I just didn't feel safe speaking to him.

If the cat did come back positive, I'd be curious to see what he did at the hospital, or what they did at the hospital. His account should tell you whether he's serious or not. But it is probably best just to stop talking to him lol. But curiosity would get the best of me! =P
