❝ Marvie ❞

"My name is Mary Von Paige; b-but don't say that! C-Call me Marvie!"

A lone boy seemed to arrive to the hidden base within Mt. Silver. Surrounding him were other Team Alchemy Trainers, some in uniform and some in casual wear like himself. The pink haired boy sighed as he finally finished packing his things in his bag and felt his phone ringing in his pocket. He slipped it out his phone and answered with forced enthusiasm."Hey Ma- no I'm fine. Yeah I met some um..nice people along the way. Right now?" He sighed and looked around, seeing Togepi waddling away,"Togepi! C-Come bac- s-sorry Ma I think I have to go. Togepi is being a bit impatient and wants to keep walking. Y-Yeah love you too, bye!" He slammed his phone shut, running after the walking egg and picking him up."Jeez Toge, just a few hours in Kanto and you're all ready for this 'new adventure.' "

The two barely arrived to the base after a long and tedious flight that bounced them through a storm, but the first class was nice touch. He looked at the ID that the 'Team' gave him, spelling out his entire name and who his 'partner pokemon' was. It was typical they gave you a pokemon, but luckily the teen had his own already. The only thing that irked him was the name; Mary Von Paige. He didn't like the name, instead he opted for a nickname he gave himself,"You know, the name Marvie has a nice sound to it. Don't you agree Toge?" The togepi cheered and nestled into his arms. "Well then, lets just see if that 'boss' shows up." Marvie slung his backpack over his shoulder and begun walking to find out exactly what he had to do.

Typically when greeting initiates the head of large organizations has little time for meeting new recruits of any kind. In fact where Team Alchemy was concerned it was difficult even finding them. Say what you will about large groups, this large group was surprisingly close knit.

Some of the trainers there were veterans, while others wore casual attire. There was no true distinction of who was an officer and who was not. The truth was Team Alchemy was difficult not only to deal with, but to understand. They had officers, they had a chain of command, but few knew about them or how they operated. Without uniform or true ways to identify one another it couldn't be an orderly system. Yet, somehow it functioned like a well oiled machine. Strictly speaking there was no way to be sure if someone was greater or lesser than you. Which one might suppose was the point. Still, it was at it's very core an odd system.

The creator of this odd system and organization was a man called Oberon. He's been repeated described as different things. Man, woman, different eyes and hair? From town to town it was as if every reliable source described him differently. The truth must have been that the people describing him always lied for him. Only one thing remained constant, the radiance around him. People always made ridiculous comments in Team Alchemy such as 'We know him by his light.'

Predicting what he was doing was equally difficult. Team alchemy was founded under a single goal: To prevent war. But it seemed to elude the masses and even Team Alchemy itself just how that was supposed to happen. It almost sounded more like a cult than an organization. Claiming that they were lead by love and peace. Despite the fact they seemed to use tactics similar to that of absolute villains. They stole, killed and went to such extremes that no sane person would ever say they were motivated by peace.

They said that Alchemy was a team of peace. They were wrong.

After some talking amongst themselves and nervous tension building up they were finally greeted, not by an officer or some cog in the organizations machine. The new recruits were surprised who approached. Some knew him and some did not. Either way he needed no introduction.

"Welcome to our family."

He said stepping down some steps from the upper story of the base. His eyes focused as if he were looking far in the distance. There was nothing to see, of course. But he seemed fixated on something far away.

"I am called Oberon. To those who listen, I ask you this."

He didn't seem to speak loudly at all it's just the whole room became silent as the grave when he entered.

"How does one obtain peace? How does one begin war? How does one prevent war? What is war? Truly?"

Wisely enough no one answered. For the first time he looked around at him at the people below. He started walking into the crowd and as if they expected him, they moved that he could freely mince words.

"War is, simply put, a battle on a large scale. Often beginning with the smallest skirmish or the exchange of blows between the small. War is a battle that grows until it is stopped by peace. One could say that to prevent war, one would need to prevent all fighting. But this is not so. All one need do is keep it from growing on a large scale. To prevent war, you must stop it before it begins. You must stop it before it spreads, you must go against the human condition. How one obtains peace, is making humanity from coming together for the purposes of battle. Team Alchemy can make this reality."

He might sound like a madman, but it was almost as if you wanted to believe him. He went on to say,
"To this end. The way to prevent war becomes clear does it not? Humans need to be joined together to a single ideal. A single belief, one that all can revel in. A common enemy and a common love. This is but one way to achieve peace."

He sounded like he was deliberately speaking in riddles. But that was his way. "As part of Team Alchemy, we believe in a single ideal. Peace. It's true that some may have different motivation or means, but it is through this common goal, that we will make the final stride towards uniting the world. Not under a tyrant, but an idea. There are those of you who already share this ideal with me. There are those who wish to learn this ideal. And there are those... "

Oberon pointed a single person out of the group, "Who have no interest in our ideals." The single person he pointed to looked around in confusion. As if to question what he was talking about. But two of the uniformed members of Team Alchemy were quickly upon him. Soon after Oberon motioned to another person, a woman. She was brought before him. As was the other person he pointed out. Both were flung before Oberon as if they were common criminals.

"Beautiful children. Tell me your names." Oberon said kneeling. They tried to stand but there were members of Team Alchemy keeping them from moving from the floor. They were being held down against their will.

"Let us go! We didn't do anything."

"Did you know? That it is possible to know someone at a glance? By their aura? When someone believes in an ideal, it shows in their aura. You two have no ideals to speak. I can tell at a glance, any true master could."

"What are you talking about?"

Oberon didn't explain himself. He just stood. Then looked to his subordinates, "Find out who they report to. Process them."

The two were dragged away. Both saying something like he'd made some sort of mistake. But Oberon ignored them he kept talking to the new recruits, "You needn't fear. There are often those who profit in treachery. Perhaps in time they'll learn our ideals. I pray they will one day. But for now I wish to know that each and every one of you is a valued member of our family. To that end, I give you no true objective. No orders nor commandments. Nay all I can give you is direction. That is is all."

"Where would you have us go, sir?"

Oberon paused a moment and looked in the distance again with a light smile.

"For now. Go at whatever pace you like... to Mt. Moon."

He made this suggestion and many of the veterans left without another word. Some of the newer members followed and some stayed behind. Some were curious. But Oberon did seem to gain interest in one particular person.

Marvie.

"Trainer. Come. I wish to know more about the color of your aura. May I ask what brought you here trainer? Why is it your aura stands out to me, I wish to know."

This was the most powerful man in Team Alchemy. An idealist and at least in part a lunatic. But for now, his methods and madness were working. They were amassing a sizable and efficient force. And it seemed to have little to do with his leadership, more to do with his 'ideal' as he called it. Peace. In truth every member of Team Alchemy valued peace. And every member was willing to do great or terrible works to do it. Perhaps it was this fact that made Team Alchemy feared across some portions of the region.

Fear or love that's all Alchemy was.

"Trainer, with your aura. I wish to know just what you think of this place and what thought have you given to my words. Fear not, I know you are no spy. You lack the aura of a traitor. But yet there is an element of mystery I wish to indulge myself in. Well trainer, tell me. Why are you here? And just what does my new recruit think of Alchemy?"

❝ Marvie ❞

"My name is Mary Von Paige; b-but don't say that! C-Call me Marvie!"

Marvie marveled at the sudden gradience in the distance. It seemed like everyone was hushed as the source of light spoke- a man who called himself Oberon. The teen stayed quiet like the rest, not wanting to interrupt whoever this man might be- probably someone of great importance. During his speech Oberon showed great passion and a sort of power that ensnared anyone who was listening, something that Marvie himself wished to have. But once the two trainers were pointed out and brought to the ray of light, he seemed to have lost some of his shine, but gain more authority. "W-Wow...just imagine that man back in the day- one of us 'grunts'.".the pink hair boy whispered to his pokemon. Togepi cooed and stared at Oberon with great interest.

As the man finished his speech and gave his final orders- heading to Mt.Moon, Marvie snapped back into reality and begun gathering his things to follow the others. But he felt a strong pair of eyes poking him, it was obvious who it was. He turned back around to face Oberon, who asked to 'know more about his aura'. 'O-Oh! W-Why would he want to see me!' For several moments Marvie stood still, worried that he was thought to be a traitor until Oberon reassured him, but still insisted to know more about him. The teen gathered his things and walked towards him, stumbling have way there out of pure nervousness. Once he finally faced Oberon, he felt smaller. Marvie was a tall for a kid his age, 6' 1'' but no matter what size Oberon was he felt like his power dwarfed him.

Clearing his throat and putting on a weak smile, Marvie finally spoke."H-Hello sir!" He bowed , still holding togepi in his arms and his backpack slung over his shoulder. He straightened himself out and continued,",I-I'm Mary Von Paige, but I'd rather you call me Marvie- sir. As for my reason being here is... a spur of the moment thing," Instantly he felt like he was walking on thin ice, after all he didn't share the exact same ideal that everyone else did.", Sadly I had to move on to bigger things. And I found an interesting rock, that the others wanted. S-So I gave in and came with them here, to help your cause," The teen suddenly broke eye contact and looked off to the side but continued,"I-It's a good one, everyone wants peace. But like everything else you can't really take away one's opposite. With no black, we can't see white. We can't feel warmth without feeling cold. We can't know peace without experiencing war." Marvie glanced back to Oberon and gave a weak smile again,"But I think we might have experienced enough war to get some peace. At least for a while.."

Champion of Team Alchemy

Oberon

"Mary is your true birthname? Truly? If it causes you shame why not take up another name? Why not simply introduce yourself as the name you have chosen for yourself? And if your heart says to keep the name. Then may I be so bold as to suggest you not take hold to shame. That said, such decisions are yours and yours alone, Marvie."

He motioned for Marvie to follow him for a moment. A nearby table with some papers and maps. Oberon took a seat as he listened to Marvie. He didn't need to speak in order to offer Marv a seat as well. One of the members of Team Alchemy seemed to offer Oberon some tea, he thanked her with a silent nod as he gave thought to this new member's words.

"A gem?" He stopped sipping his tea and put it down. Silence filled the room when he said those two words. His eyes shot Marvie then his composure relaxed. He calmed himself, the child had not brought him one of the gems he was seeking. Be it so? His pokemon would have sensed it far before he reached Mt. Silver.

The boy spoke a little more. And Oberon seemed to stand after taking a sip of his drink. With a polite bow he told the younger boy, "It is my greatest wish, that neither exist. It is as you say, you cannot have peace without war. You do not understand freedom until it is lost by chains. You cannot understand darkness until you see light. But we needn't just accept this. It is true war and peace is the way of the world. But it had no need to remain such. If faced with the ability to change the world, would you do it? Would you leave it as it is? This world is beautiful is it not? If anyone sets their mind to it, they can find endless wonder to this world in which we find ourselves. And even I find values in the little imperfections that litter around us. Even the ugliest side of the world has it's own value. So then what would you change? I asked myself the same question. I came to one irrevocable answer. I wish the world would never be destroyed."

He smirked then motioned for him to take a look at the map.

"Take a look at this map, Marvie. This land is untamed. But would it surprise you to tell you that one day it could be destroyed. Not by any sort of pollutant or accident. Just by war. War is a cruel eventuality we bare. But it needn't exist. In this time of peace. Now is the time to take steps, perhaps even drastic steps to prevent the next war. To that end we're collecting gems. Gems of all variety. It is said that gems have the power to strengthen pokemon. But that is not all they can do. In my hands I can make a lasting change. A way to unite the world. I do not speak of an empire or fleeting nation. I speak of an undivided family. Only with those gems could I make it show. And not out of greed or malice do we search. But as an act of love. We will purge this world of war. I intend to purge this world of war so that there is no longer a need for it. This is my ambition, Marvie. In time you will find your own I know it. Nevertheless. Whatever you dream, dream well. Dream well and you'll be a champion."

Oberon stepped away. After a look at the map and a sip of tea he gave careful thought to the situation. He seemed to be focused on Mt. Moon and an island. Although he seemed to be scanning major locations like cities.

"Take your offering, Marvie. For it is not one of the gems we seek. I believe if it were appraised of it's value. It would fetch an ample sum, but it is not one of the gems we seek. You may do as you will with it. But I can tell, without even as much as a glance at it. That the power within a true gem is unmistakable to the masters of Pokemon. You may do as you will with that valuable stone. Whatever your reasons, you are a member of Team Alchemy. Should you ever require our aid, you shall have it. But for now... it seems I have other affairs. If I may be excused I must visit those close to me."

Oberon looked up to see a woman who seemed to be waiting for him. She was pretty and blue haired. Her eyes were blue and her gaze was at Oberon's feet. Next to her was a man wearing a black coat and a gas mask. His identity was hidden by his mask. They didn't speak. But Oberon approached them. After a moment you could see words being exchanged in silence. Then they started walking Then all three of them walked away. Leaving Marvie alone.

Those were two of Alchemy's officers. The one behind the gas mask muttered in a deep mechanical voice, ”What is it with you and freshmeats?”

The pretty woman said, ”It is his way.”

One could say Marvie could go where he wished. At first guess Mt. Moon seemed to be a possibility but as far as he might guess, he could also head somewhere to get a fair price for his stone. Pewter city has a huge collection of stone fanatics. But in all honesty he might as well just look a map and take his pick. It was his own journey.

"My name is Mary Von Paige; b-but don't say that! C-Call me Marvie!"

Marvie continued to look on to Oberon as he made his way to a table, but he stayed standing and glanced at the map that was set on the table. During the conversation Marvie would occasionally glance off to his side, as if he was trying to remember something. But then the topic of his gem was brought up,"Wait, it's not what you guys were looking for?" The teen was greatly surprised since it was one of the factors that lead him to join Team Alchemy. He too out the pink gem and begun examining it- it didn't seem any more different from what it soundly like they were looking for."O-Oh, well sorry sir." He gave a heavy sigh as he set it back into his bag for safe keeping- maybe he'll sell it later.

He looked back up to Oberon and nodded, standing up straight and giving a salute."W-Well good luck sir!" It was obvious that the boy had no idea what to do in a 'professional' setting but he was trying. Togepi also seemed to salute as he rested in his trainer's arms, having just as much ambition as Marvie did. After Oberon left with two other officers Marvie gave a big sigh and relaxed,'Great, I just survived my first meeting..' He took another look to the map and begun checking out his possibilities. "Well Toge, lets see how we can do this. If we go to Pewter then we could sell the rock and head to Mt.Moon; that's where everyone else was going. Or maybe we should just head off on an adventure like planned, going Pallet Town and hitch a ride on the ferry to Cinnabar Island." The togepi tapped in Pewter City's direction and cooed,"Okay then, looks like it's off to Mt.Moon! But I wonder what's happening over there." The two took one last moment to rest and chat up with the remainder of the team then head off to Route 2 and hopefully to Pewter City to make some easy money.
