 Umbra, the colt's mother would claim, was not a bad boy. He was just... rambunctious. And perhaps a little too stubborn where he should be pliant. The boy certainly had a way of digging himself deeper into holes- his own fault, entirely. He either didn't like being wrong or didn't want to give anyone else the satisfaction of being right.
Which is why, when he in his... 'active' playmaking, had rowdily kicked at a squirrel's tree, he didn't solve the problem with a simple sorry to the very irate squirrels that had popped their heads out of their knothole. He didn't know they had their little babies in there with them, so as far as Umbra was concerned they were being very fussy for just a little kick! So maybe he kicked more. And maybe he threw some rocks at the branches. And really, it was all his fault, but he was still going to yell when he had to run from those very, very upset squirrels. Oh and for little creatures they were certainly having at him, jumping onto the colts back and pulling at his mane, chittering angirly while Umbra tried to dash away, only to circle back and go far too close to their home again.
"Augh! Leave me alone you dumb squirrels! There's like a billion trees in this forest, go live in one of them!"

"That enough!" Surprisingly the commanding voice that rang out belonged to a little green filly standing nearby. Mossflower leveled a disapproving stare at Umbra and trotted towards him. "Do stop flailing around. Just stand still." He gaze shifted to the still very angry, chittering squirrels. "Back to the trees with you. I’ll deal with this. Yes, you too Oscar. Up you go." She shooed them away, nodding now and again as they continued their chatter. At least two of them had been treated by her in the past and the rest of the family were familiar with her presence.

Well the filly certainly had a commanding voice about her- her ringing order bringing Umbra to a stop, though not to stop scowling as he watched her shoo the pesky squirrels away. The colt huffed, turning away from her as he shook his mane out from where leaves had tangled themselves into the pale blue hair.
"Thanks. I guess." Umbra had wildly misinterpreted who that call to order had been aimed at. The dumb squirrels weren't harassing him any longer, so he supposed he could like this odd green filly.

Mossflower shook her head and gave him a critical stare. "You should be apologizing," she said and then after a few seconds added, "to the squirrels that is." Judging by what she'd seen so far she doubted he'd understand she wanted him to say sorry to the squirrels without making it absolutely clear.

The head-cocked, furrowed-brow looked that Umbra gave the green unicorn next clearly stated that he thought the filly was off her rocker.
"What? Why? They're the ones that were attacking me! Stupid fluffy tree-rats." Umbra groused, eyes narrowing in the direction of the squirrels. He had no idea what their problem was, but he certainly wasn't going to be apologizing for it.

"I was watching everything," Mossflower said, stressing the 'everything' with narrowed eyes. "You kicked their tree first. That's their home and they have a family up there. Would you like someone to come and kick your home? Or throw rocks at it? You very rude and they deserve an apology." With her determined lift of her head, she stared him down. They wouldn't be leaving here until she heard him say sorry.

Umbra's ears turned down, cheeks heating to a darker hue of blue as he was rather taken aback by Mossflower seeing 'everything'. The colt shuffled at the dirt with a hoof, shoulders hunched and mouth pulled into a scowl.
"Just a little kick, the wind does worse." He mumbled under his breath, far too stubborn to out and apologize just yet.

"The wind isn't a bad-tempered, disrespectful little colt," Mossflower retorted. It wasn’t often that she got angry, but she was certainly well on her way now. She stared him down, not going anywhere until she got that apology out of him.

Umbra was thoroughly trapped between wanting to not be wrong and the slight pang of fear he experienced at the very insitent filly.
"... Sorry." He mumbled under his breath, wide eyes slowly glancing over at Mossflower through his bangs.

"Good." And just like that all of Mossflower's tough girl attitude melted away and she smiled.
"See, that wasn't so hard? I just really want people to respect the forest and the animals who live there. You should be kind and thoughtful to all creatures, big and small."

The blue colt shifted uncomfortably, pawing at the ground before hesitating a glance back up at the suddenly much more pleased filly. She wasn't half as scary as before, at the very least. Umbra, however, would not be admitting to his fright at the pretty filly, though.
"I didn't mean to bother 'em. Didn't even know they were in that tree." He admitted quietly, inexplicably taken by the need to prove that he didn't deliberately go around heckling small woodland animals.

Mossflower looked up at the squirrels, which had by now stopped carrying on and were watching quietly from among the branches. "Well, now you know to be more careful and I'm sure you won't do it again." She turned her gaze back to him, doing her best to look as friendly as possible now that their little disagreement was over. "And I'm sorry if I was a bit mean about it. I get heated when it comes to my friends."

The little colt shook his head quickly- what was she apologizing for? She hadn't even done anything- well. At least not anything that wasn't severely needed.
"No- it's fine. I get it. I'm like that with my brothers and sisters. And I wont. Do it again." The colt mumbled, nervously glancing up at the squirrels. He stared at them for a moment, mouth wiggling in indecision before he finally sighed.
"Sorry," He finally spoke to them, "I'm dumb sometimes." For all the faults Umbra did have, he would always be willing to accept them for what they were.

"I'm really glad to hear that," she smiled again, warm and happy, glad that he understood. Hopefully she'd taught a good lesson and made another Friend of the Forest today. "My name is Mossflower... and I don't think you'd ever be dumb. Just rash."
