A place to relax and have some down time between classes if you are not out and about. Also your residence for the rest of your time here at Beacon.

After having been through the entrance exams, having gotten into a fight with a failed team who were talking spiteful smack to others, Harthwin happily opened the door to what would be his living space for his time here at Beacon with a victorious smile. "Looks like I'm the first one here!" After stepping in Harthwin turned back to his guest, Cora, who he had met earlier and signaled for her to come in. "The place is kind of bare but I'm guessing that's because they want us to fill it up with our own stuff. I hope they'll let us paint these bare walls too." Harthwin then began investigating the rest of the dorm like a stray cat in its newly adopted home, slipping the dorm key back into his pocket. "So, Cora, why didn't you run from the brawl when I told you to. Don't get me wrong, you showed you can hold your own in a hand-to-hand fight but you could have gotten seriously hurt. Their leader, Boston, brought a knife after all. Don't you instinctively fight only with your shield?"

Every Dream is a Journey Away

Cora hesitated at the door. She paused mostly because there was not another lady in the room and something within her felt strange about being alone. He invited her inside. She left the door open behind her and took cautious steps into the room.

Would her room look like this when she was assigned to a team? It felt likely. She saw ample space for four people. Four beds suggested that this was a room for four. There appeared to be some luggage for some students, but none of it had been unpacked quite yet.

She continued to study the room as she answered him. Why did she linger? "The three were between me and the ballroom for a while. I prefer using my shield in a fight, yes, but I didn't always have it. Besides... I didn't know how well things would turn out. It's not in my nature to run if someone needs help."

The hollowed halls of the academy were slightly eerie. Not a souls made a sound through the opened door of the dorm but it was most likely because everyone else was already in their dorms or out and busy. "Well said Cora, well said. You really are quite the lady by the way. Proper foot work on the dance floor and such good mannerism in speech make me think you had a royal background or something. Would I be wrong to think so?" Harthwin asked wanting to know more about Cora herself. Harthwin had heard much about how the kingdoms were but he truly didn't have too much knowledge on any of them beside Vacuo so he wanted to know a little more about how border towns; and if royalty lived everywhere.

Cora smiled apologetically. Perhaps this did not come up in their conversation previously. Now that she thought back on the evening, it occurred to her that she did have skills that were considered higher class. She remembered how she learned those very things, and all were from teachers she had at combat school. Some of them came from higher classes, and taking pity on her brother, as well as enjoying their company, they had been taught.

"I would hate to disappoint you, but I'm not royalty." Not even close... "I'm an orphan. Learning how to speak came from books and teachers. My brother taught me how to dance."

Would he think less of her for this knowledge? Did it matter to him? She remembered that this mattered to some people, which ended up separating people from each other in far too many ways. Though... he did stand up for faunas, whether or not it was realized. His character had proven that he was more kind than some, willing to stand up for what he believed as well as defend those who needed him.

On a different note... he thought she was royal? Perhaps it was the dress and how her hair had been done, she reasoned. Though, his explanation had pointed out far different traits. Skills she had learned.

That is the saving grace of humor, if you fail no one is laughing at you.

"Oh, well you could have fooled me." Harthwin, after seeing what the rest of the dorm looks like, sat on the bed and then took his suit jacket off. As he tossed it back on the bed it was reviled that inside the jacket was a sown in holster for a gun and within it was Harthwin's weapon in its Sub-machine gun form. "Your teachers all taught you well. It's still such a mystery as to me that you don't have a boyfriend yet. Has no one ever asked you before?"

Cora thought back on that while trying not to be too distracted at the minor fact that he was carrying a weapon on his person. The others, who were at the school and challenged Harthwin to a fight, failed to remember that they might pick a fight with someone who might have had their weapon with them... brought a knife with them....

Why had she been in the least surprised that he was as confident as he had been in those simple fist-fights? It could have gotten uglier a lot sooner!!

Has anyone ever asked me out before? Focus on that.

"One piece of advice that had been given me was not to date until I was sixteen." She explained simply and did not feel much of a need to extrapolate unless asked to. "I didn't feel ready... Though... I was rarely asked."

Harthwin chuckled as Cora passed on some of her words of wisdom. It didn't surprise him in the least that she was told something like that. He could recall his father give his little sister the exact same rule and how content she was with that; until she met her first ever boyfriend. "Let to early your lips taste the apple and it will be too rough. Let to late your lips taste the apple and it will have gone sour. It's a phrase from my home. Quick romance is always unrefined and has no taste to it. It's good that you've waited for the right person to come along Cora, but if you spend too long holding on to your heart and never let anyone near it may learn to block out love al together. It pays off to be daring sometimes. If you hadn't been open to possibilities then you wouldn't have ever said yes to dancing with me and we would have never made a new friend. I'm sorry if this is an uncomfortable subject for you, we can talk about anything else if you'd like."

Cora hadn't heard this saying yet and found herself listening with honest curiosity as he spoke it and explained it. It was interesting to hear how he applied it as a warning, too. She had not met many people who had completely locked themselves away, as the saying had suggested was possible. It must have been sad for those who shunned all emotional possibility, never being brave enough to reach out. She felt the possibility of this in her own life, though she did not want to be alone...

He pointed out that she never would have accepted the invitation to dance if she had never been open to the idea. This was something she didn't think about very much. Perhaps she assumed that life would fall into place in its appointed time in good course. For well, for ill, for health, love, sickness, and for all other things.

He offered to change the subject. She wasn't sure if that was needed, but she wasn't sure how to reply. She certainly didn't count herself as daring, except in an occasional fight. Against grimm, or when one was in danger, instinct was a powerful aid that would fill in for missing thoughts. Sometimes action would override logic, or what one might first consider impossible. That was when aura was most effectively in use. Was it so in the matter of hearts, emotion, and the elusive idea of love?

"You seem to have given this a lot of thought."

"Oh, what, to romance?" Harthwin asked, feeling a little surprised, and flattered, that she thought that about him. "Naw, I just remember the saying my father told me, which was "fools learn from misery while the wise learn from history". Everyone is a living testament to many wisdoms of this world, we've just need these secrets to be reviled to us and then we can being to see truth around us."

Cora never remembered saying anything about romance, but now that it was said, she felt struck by the thought that it was on the same vein as what they had been talking about the entire time. Familiar warmth flashed across her face for a moment, but as he continued to speak, this sensation departed and she was able to return to confident and normal feelings again.

The wise learned from history. Naturally, if one failed to learn from the past, they were considered doomed to repeat it. It was interesting to think that wisdom could be found anywhere and everywhere. If one wanted to learn, they only needed to look outward. He had given this some thought. It was one thing to know a phrase and to remember a parable. It was another to understand its meaning and its application.

"Are there specific secrets you are looking for?"

A flash of rosy red skin conjured up strange reactions. It was like he was trained to feel this extra beat in his chest when ever the color was raised and when it was lowered so too did his heart. It was rather annoying, to be made to react that way, but it was also something Harthwin didn't quite want to push away. "Yes, there are a few secrets but the strange thing is that I couldn't tell you which ones they are. I know there is something I seek, I just don't know what it is yet. But I know that when I'm strong enough to return to my homeland I'll know then." Harthwin glanced over at his gun still in its holster and thought about home, and what waited him there. "If I asked you to explain the reason you were here, at beacon academy, and you could only use one word what word would you say to answer me?"

What an interesting puzzle he chose to present this time. Describe the reason she was at Beacon in one word. She thought it would be a simple thing at first, but the more she thought about it, and the more she sifted through possibilities, the harder it was to select just one.

It was an emotional reason that set her on the path of studying to fight grimm. She wanted to secure others with a sense of safety that she had to learn and fight for. She had a hope, which might have been impractical compared to some, to somehow leave a future safer for whoever would follow her. It wasn't a new path. Perhaps the impact she would make would change something.

Perhaps that was the word she was looking for. She smiled gently. "Hope."

"Hope...I like that." Harthwin repeated in a soft coo. The thought of hope could expand into a multitude of things, from people to the outcome of one's life."It's a lot better than the word I've chosen. The word hope brings many things to someone's mind, from hope in times of tribulations to the hope in times of success. No matter what the situation, hope is something we seek to change things and improve on what is already there. That's why I think hope is very positive, much like yourself Cora." Harthwin gave her a friendly smile as he thought more about who Cora was as a person. She's suffered loss and hasn't always had the best of luck for herself, so it sounds like to Harthwin, but no matter what Harthwin thinks that it was hope that has carried her so graceful. Hope that the world can be turned on its head and that things can change, that things must change, and that is what brings so much grace to this lady; the simple word of hope.
