Do you ever look back at the fanfiction you are writing and then wonder why anyone actually reads it?

Here, let me elaborate instead of just seeming like a troll with my: lol
The reason I feel this way is because I'll sometimes get discouraged by people who ask the same thing but in a way to attack me as a writer. For example, private messages or reviews where the user wonders why people even bother reading my story. Or when they complain about there not being a certain element in my story that apparently makes or breaks my story in their eyes (e.g., smut, a male leading character (which I have, but apparently that person didn't read far enough into my story to realize that before posting an anon review to b***h me out for somehow perpetuating sexism), a character that is more representative of the reader themselves, etc.).
So then I'll have a moment of weakness and wonder... Why do people read my story? I mean, that one reviewer was so certain that my story is absolute garbage. How can anyone else even read my stuff and take me seriously? Do people just read my story like it's a joke? Like I'm actually writing a parody because it's so terrible?
So, that's what I meant. emotion_c8

Its all the more jarring when its a fic that's a million years old and you think everyone has already forgotten about the fandom you posted it in… and then one morning you check your email and find that someone has newly added it to their favorites.
You not only wonder why they read it, but how they even found it in the first place!

Renkon Root Its all the more jarring when its a fic that's a million years old and you think everyone has already forgotten about the fandom you posted it in… and then one morning you check your email and find that someone has newly added it to their favorites. You not only wonder why they read it, but how they even found it in the first place! When people are desperately searching for legitimately good fics in their favorite fandoms, they usually end up unearthing the old, dusty stuff.
