Saluote sat in the back of the car, listening to another slave play a guitar. He loved to listen to others' music live rather than over the radio. The merman clapped softly to the rhythm. The drive to his master's was going to be long, considering he was to be the last delivered. Saluote was going to miss the shop--or rather the employees--but he had high hopes that his new master would be a good one. Not that the previous ones were bad. Just that he seemed to put the men off with his gentle and obedient nature. Maybe things would be better this time.

The car arrived around evening. Not too late, but certainly not enough time to explore properly. If his master was fine with Saluote doing so. Getting out of the car, he blushed as the driver fixed his kimono and the other woman went up to the castle doors to hand over the contract and see if their customer was home. "I just know this one will be different, love." "I hope so....Should I have asked for a more elegant kimono?" "All of the kimono you wear looks elegant on you. Now, hold still while I straighten it out." Yes, ma'am. Saluote looked up at the palace, hsving never seen a surface one before. It was far different than the castle back home. Much larger and more extravegant.

Prince Felix Raymond of Ortheskold

It started like any other day inside of the castle. Servants rose before the sun and rushed to start their chores. A couple of them were busy preparing a room for an arriving guest. Though guest wouldn't be quite the right word seeing they are going to stay here permanently. Not only that, the origins of this guest isn't what one's expectations would be to a castle guest.

The ruling family, the Raymonds, of Ortheskold has an old tradition. It wasn't one of the most proud or even cleanest of traditions, but each Raymond continued it none the less. The family would buy one or a few slaves to food tester, human shield, lover, play mate, and countless of other reasons. Over the past three generations or so, the slaves' treatments have changed. Instead of having a very clear master and slave relationship like their ancestors, most of the Raymonds treat the slaves in their care as family. Especially since most started as play mates to young princesses and princes and them growing up together.

Not all of the royal family like this tradition. For example, crown prince Felix for years wanted nothing to do with it. Not because he thought of slaves as beneath him or filthy creatures. He did not want the sole control of another person. Servants, soldiers, and citizens do have to lesson to their rulers, even they have some control over the citizens. But not absolute control that comes from owing another person like a piece of furniture. Not only that, but the slaves that Felix encountered didn't seem to mind being ordered.

Long story short, the king and queen thought it was best it was high time to get their son a slave of his own. Against his wishes. Which brings to the prince's study where nearly all the staff were careful to avoid. After the curse, Felix did not handle bad news, annoyances, and stress as well as he once was. With everyone knowing that the prince wasn't looking forward to owning a slave, to say in the least, they tried to avoid farther annoying him.

As Felix was going through stacks of papers in the study, a car pulled in front of the palace. The head butler, Walter, opened the large double doors of the castle. Spotting the traders and the young made in the kimono, the old man gave them a kind smile and a bow. "Welcome to Ortheskold, I pray your journey wasn't too difficult. If you follow me, I'll introduce you to his highness, Prince Felix. Later I'll show you to your room. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions." Walter moved to the side, allowing the young slave to enter the household.

Saluote looked up when he heard the doors to the palace open, and he returned the butler's smile. He looked down at the woman that had straightened his kimono before being ushered to the door. The merman was handed his contract to give to his master, which seemed to be a common occurance. Saluote followed the butler into the building, listening to the elderly man as he spoke. "May I ask what Master Felix is like? Er....Personality-wise?" Was that wrong to ask? He neer had to be introduced to his master through someone else. Saluote usually got a pretty good idea of what his master was like right away. "I hope I'm not being rude asking such a question....I apologize if I am."

He continued to look around the palace as he followed the butler. It was gorgeous. Were all palaces as elegant, or did it depend on the inhabitants? Saluote would have personally kept his palace at a level of elegance that wasn't so...flashy. Well, if he had one. His family had never been very wealthy, though his mother was the city's greatest warrior. Looking down, he fixed his sash and noticed his saddles were still on. He shuttered, but kept them on. Shoes were not his favorite thing in the world. Should he have taken them off? They weren't dirty or anything, so he wasn't worried about tracking dirt into the halls. What the accepted behavior for a surfacer's palace?

Prince Felix Raymond of Ortheskold

Walter was taken back for a moment when Saluote... spoke? At least not in a way that the butler was expecting. While the young merman's mouth didn't move, a voice did originate from him. Maybe this was how his race communicated? To be honest, the old butler only scanned through the slave's file this morning. Only able to memorized Saluote's picture, name, and ownership history. What wasn't a surprise to the butler were the slave's question. Anyone would want some idea of their new owner.

The king and queen were wise to purchasing such a respectable slave for the prince. Really was in the slave well being for him to be that. Ever since the curse, Prince Felix has been.... Moody for a lack of a more polite word. "No need to apologize, young man. I'm glad you asked. Our prince is full of integrity as well as confident. One of his strengths were his open mindedness and his empathy. Often finding solutions to a problem that no one would have thought of. It's not an exaggeration to say the people as well as nobles respect him... Though with that said, I will warn you. Recently the prince has been cursed by a spell caster- being mistaken for his brother. His Highness's health is fine, the curse effected his appearance. So don't be too surprised to see that your master his a humaniod tiger in clothes. Due to the shock of his curse and no known way to undo it, he has been... Short tempered. Don't worry, he hasn't struck anyone or ordered executions. But it doesn't make it any less terrifying during his rage."

It was hard to explain Felix's good points, which could be said that are rarely seen now a days, while expressing caution with good reason. Well, Saluote will soon discover for himself about his new master. After going down a few turns, entering new hallways, the pair made it to Felix's study. "We arrived to the prince's study, Saluote. I highly advise you to NOT mention the curse, his brother, spell casters of any sort, or his appearance. After you're finished talking to the prince, feel free to explore the grounds. If you get lost, don't hesitate to ask any of the staff for directions or guidance." Satisfied with his warning and final instructions, Walter gave the door a knock.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Felix was spent his day doing two things: paperwork and getting annoyed again and again about his parents going against his wishes. In all honesty, he was hoping to be the one to break they Raymond slave-owning tradition for more reasons he can count. Doesn't look like that was going to happen. The prince had little doubt that as he's been doing paperwork that his slave was being lead around the castle. Even thinking of owning a slave made Felix feel like the scum that sells other people for a living.

Yet again, not much he can do now. Though Felix did take the time to read over the slave's file. What were his parent's thinking? A slave was one thing but they had to get him a 'special' one. What exactly was wrong with a normal human? What if his mind goes primal and attacks the merman because Saluote is basically a human fish? Wouldn't be on land nearly everyday for Saluote's stay cause problems for his health? Those were only a few of Felix's concerns on his slave. It's obvious that any other slave would cause fewer problems. Ruling a kingdoms, his parents were nearly flawless. Being actual parents were a whole different story.

Felix could always send Saluote back to the shop, but his parents would only purchase the merman again or another one. Not to mention, Felix will admit that he would get even less sleep he does now with concerning the slave's care and the type of person their new master was. It's real possibility that sending Saluote back would be a death sentence or a even worse fate.

Not much to do besides Felix trying to 'get over' owning a slave. Guess he could always ignore the merman or just let him do as he wish? Those two options weren't bad. All that was left was meeting Saluote. "Prince Felix, I brought Saluote as you requested Walter called from the other side of the door after he docked. That old butler always did have uncanny timing."Bring him in"

Jewel of Antares
So sorry about the late reply. After I posted, I've been busy with school (due to nearing the end of the semester) and then I had to stay in the hospital for a week. I just now got back.

Prince Felix sounded...much like the Atlantian royalty in the stories he heard. Of course, they were only stories. Nothing else remained of the city since it disappeared, other than a few selected treasures left behind to remember it. Hearing his master was cursed to appear as a tiger-human creature, Saluote tilted his head. How could a witch or wizard or whatever make such a identity mistake? Some merfolk cultures would call for execution for such a mistake. Not his, though. There were no spell casters. Just warriors and hunters. "I will do my best to not anger him. Thank you for the answers, and your warning." So, don't mention the curse, spell casters, his appearance, or his brother. Then....What could he say? He supposed he could wait until spoken to in order to avoid conflicts.

Yes. That was certainly the best plan right now.

Saluote waited behind Walter as he addressed Prince Felix, and te merman took the chance to look around. It was a wonderful castle. He couldn't get over it. When he heard someone call out to Walter, he immediately assumed it was his master. Who else would it be? The voice mentioned for Walter to bring him in, and Saluote took a breath. He had never even seen a tiger before, so he didn't know what it was. He sincerely hoped it wasn't something that he would comment on out of instinct. The merman entered the room carefully. Just remember to stay calm, and you'll be fine. He kept his gaze down until he was actually in the room, giving himself silent encouragements, and only when he felt confident he wouldn't say anything wrong, did he looked up. He jumped just a bit when he actually saw him. Saluote wasn't scared. Surprised, sure, but....He didn't look as horrible as he had imagined. In a way, he was actually handsome. And, he was allowed to think that, since Saluote himself was technically a fish. The merman quickly regained his composure and bowed to Felix out of formality. He was a prince, after all. "Hello, sir. It's an honor to meet you."

[[ ah. i see.
