Frost wasn't what one would normally consider to be overly friendly or light-hearted. Far from it, in fact. The kindest things one might say of him, was that he was blank or uncaring. Cold. Much like current season.

That said, it was winter. The one time of year he enjoyed, and enjoyed deeply. Where others would often bundle themselves in layers, trying to keep warm, Frost would go out in the middle of a snowstorm as is, simply to feel the chill and the gentle caress of cold as snowflakes swirled around. It was this time of year, and on days like this, when one might actually see a small smile upon his face.

This day was, some might consider, grey and dismal, but the air was not as biting as it could have been, and it was a good day to have fun in the snow.

The young male was, for him, gleeful, as he frolicked about, kicking up clouds of soft powder. Not usually much for celebrations or gatherings such as this... he was at heart shy and he disliked being around so many, but it was the winter solstice, and he just couldn't resist.

Spying a snowman competition, he gathered his nerve enough to enter. Then he realised it... it was to be a team exercise. This wasn't so good. He simply wasn't good at working with others. He was a loner. And he liked it better that way.

This could, however, be a good thing, if they could both agree early on to do what needed to be done and just do it. No fuss, no muss, minimal communication. He could only hope.

But knowing his luck, it was probably going to end up being a total disaster...

Winter wasn't Naosu's favorite season. It was cold, generally depressing and except when it snowed just the right way, there was very little to do except stay burrowed down and wait for spring.

But today way special, different. Today was the Winter Solstice celebration and that meant a lot of people would be out, which meant getting to potentially make new friends!

Noticing that there was a snowman competition, she eagerly entered it and was gleeful when she found out it was a partnered event. Since she hadn't come with a partner, one would be chosen for her and soon enough she was being introduced to the male who would be her partner for the competition.

"Hello!" She chirped happily. "Naosu is Naosu! This is going to be fun, huh? Do you have any ideas for how to make the snowman?"

As the female came his way, he noted the bouncy step and winced. Great, he thought sarcastically. He was going to be paired with one of those....

She introduced herself, but he really couldn't be bothered to remember her name. They were only going to be working together for no more than a few hours - he hoped - and they would never have to see each other again. He considered leaving it at that, but manners - and the worry that if he didn't respond might upset the creature and cause it upset, not that that would bother him truly, but upset usually meant huffs, sighs or worse, tears, and he could not stand any of those - prompted him to answer simply with his name.

"Frost."

He started to turn and begin when he caught the rest of what she said, and the implications. She didn't have the slightest idea of what they were doing. Or so it seemed to him. If she didn't know what this event was, or how to even go about it, what reason did she even have for entering it in the first place? He grumbled under his breath about idiots, and deities give him patience, as he consider what she could do without jeopardising their chances at at least doing well.

He had always enjoyed making snowmen, and had every winter since he was a very young kit, so he was rather an old hand. He was accomplished at forming the snow mounds that would be sturdy enough to shape and decorate, so he could handle that much... which would leave the gathering of different odds and ends for ornamentation to her. An easy enough task, that hopefully she couldn't mess up.

"I'll form the base. You gather decoration." He paused briefly, wondering if that was enough information, or if it might be prudent to specify. " Sticks, stones, unused items - scarves, hats - and things like that. When base is finished, we dress it up. Simple, yes?"

If Naosu was the kind to be discouraged easily, she might have felt annoyance that her partner turned out to be one of those grumpy fluffs. But instead when he introduced himself, she smiled cheerfully. Of course, then he was grumbling to himself and other such.

Maybe it would be best to tone it down a little bit she thought, since grumpy people didn't seem to enjoy how much fun she seemed to have simply existing. If he didn't want to be in the competition though, then why had he entered? Maybe he just didn't like how much pep she had.

She gave him a patient look when he told her exactly nothing of what he wanted to do with the snowman, but she reasoned that maybe he didn't have any ideas. So she smiled and nodded. "Naosu will find some nice things." She agreed. Maybe it was best this way, though she hoped he would like what she came up with because if she had her way, this was going to be one cheerful snowman!

Frost was glad that she seemed well enough able to listen, and was okay with going and gathering the decorations. Though he shuddered to think of what she might think... suitable. Oh, well. At least he would be able to work mostly alone, as was his preference anyway. Perhaps he would get through this team competition with his sanity somewhat intact.

Once she seemed well out of the way, and doing her part - he hoped - he paused to consider. He knew how to make a simple, standard snowman, but that was far from likely to win them any points, in terms of creativity. And it was something he could do nearly in his sleep. He wanted to do something challenging, and different. Something special.

There was no real clear idea in his head, as he started to gather and pack the snow that he would sculpt into... something. And despite the cold and gruff exterior, he was artistic, and had a secret enjoyment of the romantic.

As he worked, almost mechanically, a figure began to emerge. Something from one of the stories he had been incredibly fond of as a kit. The story of the snow prince...

Naosu took her time, which was to say that she saw so much potential in everything she came across that it was a struggle not to just flounce off with it all. So instead she considered what her grumpy fluff partner might be creating and snuck back to peer.

She hadn't expected what she saw, and immediately felt terrible for thinking he wouldn't come up with anything good. Because it was good. She didn't know if they would win with it, but she didn't care about winning, only having fun with others.

Well something like that deserved more subtle decorations than scarves and hats, so off she scrambled all the way back to her own home and came trotting back with a basket full of pretty river rocks and a few uncut gems.

"Ne ne. What do you think?" She set the basket down to present to Frost, swishing her tail and looking pleased. Surely such things would be the perfect additions!

Frost took a step back to look at the sculpture.
It wasn't the best he had ever done, but given the time restraints and the fact he was working with a partner he had no idea if would be good with the whole thing, he felt that with the right additions, it would at least convey what he wanted. The romantic, but somehow tragic snow prince.

And speaking of partners... he wondered where the bouncy female had gone off to. If she had found anything yet. And if it would be any good. Given the way she had come off, he felt a bit leery - what if everything she chose was overly bright, and gaudy and just too much of anything? He hesitated, perhaps his choice wasn't the best he could have made... Did he have time to go back and start over?

But, before he could start to doubt too much, she came back. He approached with some trepidation - hopefully there was something there that wasn't too offensive, that could be used. To his surprise, none of the things she had brought were too gaudy or bright or loud, or too much. Perhaps he might have misjudged her. A little.

"This is good. We can work with this."

He looked back at the sculpture. He hadn't the first idea of where to start. It was the one problem he had always had with this sort of thing. He just didn't have an eye for decorations, and what would be best where.

"You... you should put these on him, yes?"

Naosu smiled happily at Frost and picked up the basket again to hop over to the sculpture. She set it back down in front of the snow prince that Frost had made and considered what she had to work with.

She began by arranging the rocks around the sculpture's feet, to give the impression he was standing on them, though she only had so many rocks to work with and could really only make an outline. Then she took the gems and made him a necklace with them, carefully packing them in to hide that they were a bit uneven and carefully gave him the last gem on the middle of the forehead.

She turned back to Frost when she was done and then stepped aside as if to present it. "Naosu did good, yes?" She was trying not to vibrate, try not to be nervous.

Stormy grey eyes watched closely as the female stepped nearer to his masterpiece - she might mean well, but with her energy and personality, could she treat the fragile sculpture with the gentleness and care that was needed, so as not to destroy it as soon as add the embellishment. For that matter, what was she going to do with the stones and gems in the basket she had brought ?

He made as if to step up closer, unsure whether it was to help or to shoo her away from his creation and ask that she allow him to add the embellishment, at her direction, if that was what it would take. Then he noticed how careful she was being, and how it was actually not to bad. She wasn't, contrary to his thoughts of the female, ruining the sculpture. Really, it didn't look too bad... At least, from what he could see from behind her.

'Is ... acceptable,' he said, somewhat grudgingly, which from the male was high praise indeed. 'Good...'

What he was about to say was interrupted as a pair of kits came running through laughing and tumbling in the snow.

' Get away. Kits shoo. ' Looking away from each other and back at the male who yelled at them, the kits didn't see where they were going and ran straight into the sculpture, lucky near the tail, but the damage was done. The sculpture lost near fully half as the tightly packed snow fell apart from the impact.

' See what done? Nasty little monsters get. ' He snarled as he made his way to stand by the ruined creation, to see if there was anything to be done to salvage it, and what, if there was enough time left before the judges came around...

Naosu cried out in dismay when the rambunctious kits tumbled through and damaged Frost's careful work. "Oh, most unloff!" She cried, honestly upset, though unlike Frost she wasn't angry at the kits. She did shoo them away however, and then turned back to the sculpture to see the damage.

"It's not terrible. We can fix it!" She decided, though she made no move to help. If she had the right of her grumpy fluff partner, he wouldn't appreciate her assistance. Still, she shifted on her paws. "Naosu could help." She offered. It was up to Frost whether to let her or not, and while she was here to have fun and didn't care about winning as much, it seemed to mean more to him and she wanted him to be able to have a good time--even if she was currently not herself.

As soon as the kits were gone, Frost took a moment and a few deep breaths. Really, it wasn't completely wrecked, and they were just kits. They probably didn't mean to cause the damage but still. They should at least have known enough to not rough-house where games and such were being held. It just shouldn't be done.

Besides, it was nothing more than a silly competition.Still... he had put his heart into the sculpture. A bit of himself, as it were, and it gave him yet another reason to withdraw from others. If they disrespected what he did, if they disliked him, then well... perhaps he really wasn't made for being in areas like this, with so many others. He just didn't fit in.

The sculpture had avoided damage to the more delicate and intricate parts, the face and some of the outfit so... it should be safe enough to allow Naosu close to help fix it. If only to get it done before the judges got through the three or so before the snow prince.

'You work on that half. Is fine.' He shrugged one shoulder. 'Just make sure the snow is packed well and smooth when finished. Not much time, but do best you can.'

"Naosu will do her best!" She chirped, though her movements didn't match her tone. Frost was being pretty good about it all, considering. Then again, she was quite likely not giving him enough credit. He was a grumpy fluff, but that didn't mean he wasn't a good person underneath. Most were once Naosu got to know them, she found.

She set to work, being as methodical as she could. It was important to Frost, so it was important to her. She knew they needed to hurry, but she didn't want to rush too much and mess it up, not because he would be angry with her, but because then she would have ruined something he had clearly put a lot of work into. Even if they didn't win, at least they could say they were proud of it.

He had to trust that Naosu would do her part, as he turned to do his. If only they had more time. If only those kits hadn't come along and ruined it... If only, if only. But the kits did come, the sculpture had been damaged, and the judges were on their way over.

He knew that it would not be as perfect as it had been before, but there was no help for it now. It was what it was and he could only hope that it would be well received. With one final pat of his paw to smooth out the snow he took a step back allowing the judges to move close and get a good look at the creation.

Even if it wasn't his best work, it was something he could be proud of. Something they could both be proud of. Perhaps this whole working with someone else thing wasn't too terribly bad. And second was a perfectly respectable placement. He turned to Naosu.

'You do well. Second not bad. Good job.'
