Personality
His personality really depends on if you’re talking to him when he’s not in costume or if he is.
If he’s not in costume, he often shows a desire to change the country to what he believes is for the better. He also aids those he comes across when necessary, and uses the fact no one knows his identity as his alter form to his advantage. Along with this, he shows a near indomitable will to accomplish his ambition, though how he plans to go by it will tell in time.
As his alter ego, he bears a sense of justice, while also accepting the fact that sometimes evil must be done. Along with this, he bears a sense to protect the people, and is normally in the middle of skirmishes trying to save those that need it, though many normally never saw him, to which Oliver being the head of and made a website for his alter ego so that they wouldn’t expect his true identity, the site labeled “The mystery in darkness”.
Biography
To understand his origins, you must understand where his powers originate: The Great Darkness.
During the time that the supernatural heroes were trying to stop the Great Darkness from destroying the world, and the Swamp Thing spoke it’s theory of good and evil, one fragment of The Great Darkness thought through this more than the rest, and from this it separated itself when The Great Darkness merged with the Creator, wondering if it could be looked into further. During this time it latched onto a hawk near death, giving the creature new life and allowing it to travel through the world, learning of wars and what each side fought for during these times. During one of it’s travels it stumbled on a fourteen year old boy, limping from a broken leg and trying to find his way along a mountain. Normally the being would’ve simply watched, but it saw something in the boy’s eyes despite the pain of his wound, making him want to see just how strong this boy really was.
Now we go to Oliver. Born to Lester Wolcott and his mother, Hellen (deceased), he was named after one of his ancestors who signed the Declaration of Independence. He normally spent his time reading about history when he turned seven, and started learning from the actions each group took for their victory. He also saw how variations of it were made to make the other look noble in their quest, even though some were obviously lower than dirt. Because of this he never normally talked to people outside of discussions on the subject, and he probably would’ve learned nothing on normal social skills if it wasn’t for his father. His father taught him the difference between right and wrong, and how some men were looked highly upon by some while scorned by others, also teaching him of honor and respect. During this he was also taught martial arts by his father, who worked him relentlessly starting with his advancement to blue belt.
Cut to Oliver’s fourteenth birthday, where his father decided to take them up in the Rocky mountains During one of their camping trips in the mountains, he slipped and tumbled off a cliff, breaking his left leg in the process. While this happened, his father had started climbing down to find him before reaching a point he couldn’t reach Oliver. His father had told him to follow the outer line of the mountains back to the path the trail started to lead up to it, and Oliver took it word for word until he had made it halfway, stopping when a black hawk stood in his way, it’s eyes glowing orange. This shocked him, and he prepared for the worse as the hawk flapped it’s wings a bit to get closer to him before it began to speak to him, putting a series of questions upon him which if he didn’t reply then he’d die, which had put Oliver in shock at first before he obliged, guessing he had nothing else to lose before a two questions popped up. When asked what he wished, he replied with wanting to complete his ambition, but when asked what his ambition was, he answered a truth he knew in his heart: that he had yet to find it. The hawk seemed eager to see what it was and said that he had three years to decide on it, and he would return on the same day they met. As a parting gift to prove the event was real, the hawk healed Oliver’s leg and granted him a small portion of it’s power, soon leaving a dumbfounded child beside a mountain side.
When Oliver made it back to his father, Lester noticed the fact his leg was healed. Soon Oliver told his father of the hawk and what it had said, and his father took him back home while thinking what to do. He then decided to only train his son harder, stating that the only way he could find out what he wanted was by learning himself. For two and a half years Oliver tried to find what he wanted to do, from reading books on history to seeing the local news. At the same time he was trying to use the powers the Darkness had granted him, but was unable to use it. All that changed during one day, when he had noticed a few policemen dealing with some kids he knew that weren’t of European descent, two African American’s and one Hispanic. Normally he’d let it by, but they were saying slander at the kids, calling them all kinds of slurs, making him walk up and shout at them, knowing he’d probably go to prison for it. What happened, however, was much worse. One of the men had pulled a gun out and pointed it at him, making him stop where he was and look at it, soon hearing them say something about interfering with the law. Adrenaline does strange things to a person, and Oliver is no excuse, but for different reasons compared to others. When the gun was pointed at him his mind started thinking in a blur, remembering hundreds of things he had read about in the past similar to this, letting him realize this kind of corruption was still going on, and no one was able to stop it, and at that moment he had made a decision that would change his fate, and this is what he had spoke:
“You believe yourself above the law, your actions justified because you hold a badge. Ignorant fool, you cannot silence the people by simply shooting one person for their actions, you cannot silence them by threats either. This land was made for the people to be free, not harmed by the abuse of lesser men that hold higher titles. So hear me now: you may shoot me, you may arrest me, but I will find a way to return, and when I do I will defend the people from you, and men like you. And if I have to take over the country in order to rid it of the men who abuse power and use corruption and greed to keep men in check, then so be it.”
Now you’re probably wondering: Why the hell didn’t the cop arrest him or start shooting him for talking back? Well the answer to that would be because at that time a dark aura started to emit from Olivers body, along with his eyes beginning to glow orange as waves of shadows came off of him, causing the cop to back up and try to fire, only to find that the shadows in his pistol had solidified and jammed it from even moving the trigger, the same thing happening to the other two cops as they tried to pull out their guns and shoot, Oliver oblivious to it due to his anger at them before one of the waves blasted them back. The cops then turned and ran to their car before driving off, leaving the kids looking at Oliver in shock as he started to calm down, the aura fading away before they asked what the hell happened. He only looked at them confused before he saw a wave of darkness come off of his hand before he began to concentrate, soon forming a staff in it, making him smile before he asked them to not reveal this to anyone. The kids promised not to tell anyone and thanked him for what he did, and they held their word the next day, no one knowing what had happened before, though they did tend to help him out every now and then. When Oliver had returned home that day he showed his father what he could do, and Lester was in shock at it, having began to think that his son had only imagined the hawk and that he never saw his son break his leg. With that Oliver began studying more on the current events and the government standing, looking at the various sides of the countries stories while also trying to keep an open mind on the subject, soon seeing more problems in the government then he thought there originally was, solidifying his decision, and finalizing his ambition.
And sure enough, at the end of the third year the hawk returned, asking him what he decided. Oliver answered with a single response: to free the country from men who abuse power, and to reform the government into one where ambition is ruled by strength and logic, and led to positive ideas with reason. The hawk was intrigued with this, and laughed at the response. He then replied that he wished to see what kind of land he’d create, and asked to be a part of him to see this path. Oliver was confused at this, and asked why before learning the hawk’s true identity. He then decided it would be fine to merge, learning of the lack of purpose the entity had, before they began speaking on the terms of what the arrangement would be. The Darkness itself promised to allow Oliver full untapped potential into it’s remaining powers, along with being able to use it however he chooses, so long as he keeps to his ambition through it all, and in return the Darkness would appear at times it chooses to in order to see the state of affairs, and do as it pleases during these times. Along with this, if Oliver ever was consumed by emotion, the Darkness warned that it would be forced to take over and deal with the causes of his anger or grief, or force him to do as it wished. Oliver agreed to this under two conditions. The first condition was that the darkness would only be able to take over Oliver's body for one hour per day, and not take over if it didn't wish to. The second condition was that he would be able to communicate with the darkness through his mind and machinations he created through it. The Darkness agreed to these terms still seeing these terms favorable to it, even more now with how it gave them both a way of communication. Thus the deal was struck, and the darkness then released itself from the hawk and merged with him, both minds soon coming together in one body and their memories soon being shared in between the two, Oliver now learning bits and pieces of what the Darkness knew. With this power Oliver learned of the Shadow Lands, and of how to enter them. When he did, he looked around in shock, seeing the desolate wasteland with near nothing in it save the emitting shadows from it’s very form. He then returned home and began thinking as to what to do, now knowing more about the world than he did before, before he began thinking through what kinds of powers he now had besides teleporting to the Shadow Lands, and began testing out theories for the next few years while also looking more and more into how to reform or rebuild the government.
During the events of Void Earth he had taken his father with him to the Shadow Lands, showing him the base of operations he had made before one of his minions came back and told him of what had just happened. Now in this present time, he's trained and prepared himself for the world, using his powers in secret to aid others, though some had actually taken a notice to this and have been trying to find a name for him. Oliver took advantage of this and made a fansite based solely on his alter form called "The Mystery of Darkness", which now has a few thousand people in it while also allowing him a good alias while trying to find a good name to go with from the comments, though none have really popped up yet. Along with this, he could see what kind of standing he had with people while he prepared for his plans of taking the land, knowing full well that something had changed, and that it was only a matter of time before something happened that could try to destroy it's freedom if left unchecked.
His current state is a mutual agreement with himself and the darkness that took a hold of him, their deal being kept with the entity coming out at the times it wishes or when he is at his weakest and most vulnerable, sometimes watching events go by, and other times causing indirect mayhem through the shadows. Oliver normally holds command of his body, but can be easily taken over if his emotions go out of control, sometimes from holding great rage or grief. This was proven when he was nineteen and enraged at the sight of a few militia soldiers killing people in a town they took over, soon being taken over by the darkness and destroying five cities in the process, leaving no survivors. Since then he has placed a restraint on himself to keep him from getting close to it, and has focussed on his martial arts training to calm his mind, but he still gets possessed if he's not careful. The darkness, when not in control, takes over the oldest minion among the rest, a creature named Gnarl that teaches Oliver how to control his powers, while also watching to see what Oliver will do in the end. They have an agreement that the Darkness will do nothing to alter Oliver's ambition so long as he can accomplish it by his twenty third birthday, and when the time comes the darkness will transfer to be his first born son, leaving Oliver with the powers he was granted. If he fails, then he will lose all control of his body and turn into a mere effigy of darkness, his soul to be consumed into the darkness and merged with it.
The powers he attains from the Great Darkness are magically based, though more primordial because of the origins of the abilities. Because of this, they are less attuned to normal magic and are of a more primal nature, able to hold a wider array of abilities thanks to it's raw power.
As for his traits and current knowledge: he bears a fourth degree black belt in tae kwon do. Along with this, he can freely go to and from the Shadow Lands in order to check up on his creations, and sometimes to think through events, though he mainly goes there to think of plans on how to take over the country with the least backlash, gaining a good deal of friends in his city that could help him in it. The three guys he protected when he was sixteen have all gone their separate ways from the town, and have rarely talked to him since. He left his home town in Connecticut and settled down in Metropolis, finding a place to turn into both his home and a tae kwon do gym. He normally teaches tae kwon do, but he hasn't had any kids come train since he moved, and intends to do a demonstration for an elementary school to see if any one wants to train in it.
As for his current standing: he doesn't particularly care if someone's on either side, so long as their cause aids him in making his dream a reality. As such, he may choose to aid those of either hero or villain, but still rely on his current ambition. Because of this, and though his ideals are good, he is considered a villain to the press, despite the people he's saved. Along with this, he doesn't particularly care for titles since people must make decisions both good and evil if you wish to make a country that survives. He does not, however, wish to use his powers to take over the country unless absolutely necessary, though he does use them on occasion to find out most of the problems in the government, and prepares his own plans on taking the government into his own hands. And it's more of what he told one person that he saved when they asked if he was really a villain: "If society wishes to see me as such, then I shall be the villain needed for this country to grow."

Though they are created from his powers, they bear free will and he treats them fairly while they serve him in the Shadow Lands, building a castle there for him to stay in while also forging equipment for him to use while making armor for themselves, knowing full well their weakness. They have an undying loyalty to him and will give their lives willingly since they know they do not exist without him, and can freely come out of the Shadow Lands on their own to defend him. They are, similar to his armor, based off one of the games he played, though unlike their counterparts they can speak in whole sentences and can choose when they want to do work or not. They also have a liking to video games, at which Oliver has allowed them a permanent portal to his room to play them as they wish, so long as it’s not during the day when people tend to peak in after hearing some ruckus. The four that have been with him since the beginning, and train the new minions and give them names are as follows: Giblet the smith, Leaf the spy, Gnarl the wise (who is normally possessed by the Darkness to train Oliver when he is in the Shadow Lands, and as a result bears much of the Darkness's knowledge), and Kyle the trainer. These four are the ones who train the minions Oliver has made so that they’ll be prepared for any battle they come across.

Though he was hard on his son normally when he did wrong, it was so he would see the world in a better light than others, and normally did help out when he needed it, or just talked to his son when he felt something was wrong. Out of every one, he’s one of the only ones who knows of his son’s powers, and the only one who has visited the base Oliver had made, being given a pendant that allowed him to not be harmed or altered by the darkness emanating from the land, though it vanished soon after he left.

[Weapon Information]
○ Eye of the Night: this is a ring with a black gem in the center of it, forged by his minions so that Oliver would know if he’s about to lose control of his powers, and issues a sudden searing heat onto his finger to signal a small amount of time left. It also immediately cuts off access to his full powers until he cools down or loses the fatigue he gained from using them.
○ Erebus: a blade forged from dark flames by Giblet, it bears the power to withstand his abilities if he concentrates his power through it to increase attacks. He leaves it in a castle he made in the Shadow Lands and teleports it to his side when he has need of it.
[Ability Information]
Darkness Embodiment: Thanks to the powers he gained from merging with the fragment of the Great Darkness, he can control all aspects of darkness and form it into anything he wishes, from a pebble to a castle forged from shadow, though they don’t last without a permanent source of darkness. Along with this, he can disguise himself by shifting his form to look and sound completely different from his actual looks, though he changes back when he falls asleep or loses concentration. He also bears the ability to forge darkness into items which can aide him when needed, such as armor, weapons or every day items like a broom and a bucket. He can also create proper functioning guns fueled by his own powers, though the concentration to them is difficult and can lead to him getting a headache afterwards. along with this he can fire beams of pure darkness, or create tendrils to capture, subdue, and sometimes kill his enemies if he needs to. (you know what, just think of Jackie Estacado, except with a good deal of power in the day)
Darkness Healing: he can heal himself from the shadows around him if necessary, and can also use them to heal others if he needs to.
Darkness Teleportation: can teleport himself and others through the darkness into various places, including the Shadow Lands when he needs to rejuvenate the powers of The Darkness.
Umbra-kinetic creature creation: He can create minions to aide him or to be his eyes and ears for events, though they are weakened by light and are easy to defeat depending on where they are and what time of the day it is.
Darkness Mimicry: When he needs to make a quick escape, he can make a second form to distract others and find a way to leave the field of battle with no one besides those attuned to darkness or light knowing the difference.
Darkness Illusions: similar to his mimicry ability, he can create illusions to frighten or trick others, even making an environment based on illusions if he has enough space. similar to his ability to mold darkness into objects, it requires a source of shadows to keep it running.
Martial Arts: trained as a kid long before he possessed his current powers, he was trained by his father in tae kwon do, and has gotten to a fourth degree black belt, now able to train others in the martial art at a place of his own.
[Weakness Information]
○ Weakness to Light: though he can bear a great deal of power over darkness, the darkness he manifests himself from his own shadow cannot heal him. Because of this, if he is mortally wounded with no natural source of shadow anywhere near him, and he cannot reach a shadow in time, and if he dies and seven hours pass, he will die. If within the time period he'll stay dead until someone tosses a blanket on him or he's covered in shadow, allowing him to heal. Along with this, he can be subdued by bright lights if they are placed upon him for longer than thirty seconds, causing him to be unable to teleport away and leave him at the enemy’s mercy, also unable to change back to his original state.
Time to amass power: it takes up to fifteen minutes for him to attain full control of his powers, two to attain his form to fight in and use a small fraction of it, and during that time he is vulnerable to attacks and can be knocked out during this time, even killed if you can manage it. Along with this, he can only use his powers to their full extent for four months before they start to waver. Because of this he has to return to the Shadow Lands to regain his powers, a process which takes two days to complete.
Lack of Control: He can only use his powers at their full extent for thirty minutes, at which trying to use their full abilities could cause him to lose control, likewise when he’s enraged as he may overexert his powers and destroy innocents with it. He can use a fraction of his powers at will, but only for small things if he hasn’t tried drawing in the power. When he does lose control, his entire body is on overdrive destroying various objects around him while he himself is stuck watching it, while also hearing a small voice in his head that wishes to see the people around him squirm and beg for forgiveness, to see them pay for the crimes they've committed. This has only occurred once on a small island covered with a militia that took away power, and ended with the destruction of five villages, no survivors. It's because of this that he has so many restraints infused with the ring, and rarely goes all out even when the situation calls for stronger measures, knowing full well that he can't control the other mind within him.
○ Creature Possession: while he is looking and hearing through the eyes and ears of his creatures, he is vulnerable to attacks and can be killed in this state.
○ Power Source for creations: Like I said prior, his items need a permanent source of power to stay active, and the only things that have that are those in the Shadow Lands. Because of this the items he doesn’t have attached to his person that he creates from darkness have a time limit of two minutes before they vanish, though creatures he brings from the shadow lands vary depending on how long they have stayed there, the weakest and youngest able to last around ten minutes and the four oldest minions able to last out of it for five to ten days from their knowledge on their bodies.
So we would like to bring up a few questions about your powers and more specifically the minions you have been using.
In your profile you explain that you have 54 minions similar to the game Overlord. This is not a problem, you put in the profile they are similar to those minions as they maintain your castle, make your armor and do menial tasks for you. However we have been noticing that they have been going far above and beyond the simple minions you talk about in your friends thing.
Such as having shadow abilities, allowing them to be incredibly stealthy and one with the darkness, as well as being able to see through all the shadows of the world, and telepathically share information with Oliver, and even hold his entire consciousness while the great darkness his body out for a test drive.
While you do go into some of these abilities in the Umbra-Kinetic Creature Creation. We are still sorta curious where many of these other abilities your minions have access to came from.
