Last night, Eiji Aonuma posted a video to say that while his team are hard at work on the newest instalment in the The Legend of Zelda series, the Holiday 2015 launch window is no longer a priority.
His team wants to focus on delivering the ultimate Zelda experience and has asked for our patience as they aim for a 2016 release.

Furthermore, Nintendo via Twitter and Miiverse have confirmed that the game will also not be shown at E3 this year.

Now, to me, the delay was expected. It's Nintendo and Zelda. This happens.
It's the E3 no show that's caught me off guard. I thought maybe they'd at least have a trailer, maybe a teaser similar to last E3 or like the epic Twilight Princess reveal from 2004.

Then I started thinking, Starfox U is also supposed to release this year, so maybe a certain someone who has been floundering since his glory days has once again infamously "upended the teatable" and doesn't want Zelda U to steal the spotlight from Starfox U.

Furthermore, just what could Nintendo show off this year to make up for it?
F-Zero U? Metroid U?
The internet seems to have already hit the panic button and declared it's being delayed for the Nintendo NX, similar to the Twilight Princess Gamecube to Wii release, but I highly doubt that.

But sound off with your thoughts below.

Mmm... I hadn't thought about the no show at E3, that IS new. I'm not even one bit upset about the delay, though. I prefer more delays or a release date that doesn't feel rushed, so they can really make it a better game. I remember TP had 3 delays, and it's the game that's been the closest IMHO to being as good as OoT and MM. It's in my top 5. I know the delay might've been related mainly to the dual console release (GCN and Wii) but it's still one of my favorite Zelda games.

Maybe, just maybe, they're being more careful after that awkward Skyward Sword showcase. But after thinking about it, the Nintendo Direct format pretty much solves that problem... So that might not be it. I don't think the only 2 videos we've seen have much content for backlash to change the style, and it seems unlikely they're taking a U-turn like when they announced Wind Waker. (Though the HD Twilight Princess demo movie on the Wii U looked pretty sweet). So, yeah, it definitely sounds like Miyamoto upended the teatable and decided not to show Zelda at this E3. This doesn't mean we won't get something later this year, I think. In fact, after the game releases, Aonuma will probably say why they took this decision, or it will be clear by then. Anyway, only time will tell, and we're getting there one second at a time.

Well, I am for it. This gives me more time to save up my money and get a WiiU smile I would rather wait for a good game than get a crappy one in short order. I mean, how long have I been waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3?!
