Ok. So I'm not really that excited, however, I would like to see Cate B. pick up the Supporting Actress Award as she rightfully deserves!!!

Anyways, Oscars are tonight. Or, very early tomorrow morning for me. Anyone excited? Last minute predictions.

I'm sure results discussion will follow.

Jamie Foxx will win.

I agree with what everyone is saying on who'll win (ie, Entertainment Weekly). I'm working tonight and I don't really care about the Oscars.

I don't know if I'm gonna watch, my attention span is too short to sit through the whole thing. What would Cate be winning for, The Life Aquatic? If so, I don't really think it'll happen. But I agree that Jamie Foxx will win. Everything. Because Ray Charles is dead. You know, I didn't very much like that movie. neutral

Oh, right, the Aviator. :d'oh:

I watched about five minutes of it, when whatshername won for best actress. And does Jaimie Foxx have a tattoo on the back of his head? Why and of what?
PostPosted: Mon Feb 28, 2005 6:45 am

Hilary Swank won Best Actress *glad*

I really liked Million Dollar Baby.

There was WAY too much Oscar coverage. I was more concerned about the winter storm.

2006 Academy Award Nominees
by Rebecca Murray

"Brokeback Mountain" Leads the Pack of Oscar Nominees with 8
5,798 members of the Academy received ballots and when the votes were tallied it was the romantic drama "Brokeback Mountain" which wound up capturing the most nominations with eight, followed closely by Paul Haggis' "Crash" and George Clooney's "Good Night, and Good Luck" with six.

2006 Academy Award Nominees:

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE:
Philip Seymour Hoffman - "Capote"
Terrence Howard - "Hustle & Flow"
Heath Ledger - "Brokeback Mountain"
Joaquin Phoenix - "Walk the Line"
David Strathairn - "Good Night, and Good Luck"

**I think Ledger will win this, although I LOVED Strathairn

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
George Clooney - "Syriana"
Matt Dillon - "Crash"
Paul Giamatti - "Cinderella Man"
Jake Gyllenhaal - "Brokeback Mountain"
William Hurt - "A History of Violence"

**I WANT Matt Dillon to win this but I also loved Gyllenhaal and I think he will take this. William Hurt? C'mon, he was good but nothing that deserved an Oscar. Jeeeez. Giamatti should've gotten nominated for Sideways.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE:
Dame Judi Dench - "Mrs Henderson Presents"
Felicity Huffman - "Transamerica"
Keira Knightley - "Pride and Prejudice"
Charlize Theron - "North Country"
Reese Witherspoon - "Walk the Line"

**I've only seen Transamerica out of these films so I can't really vote. I thought Huffman was good but I don't know HOW good compared to the other nominees

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE:
Amy Adams - "Junebug"
Catherine Keener - "Capote"
Frances McDormand - "North Country"
Rachel Weisz - "The Constant Gardener"
Michelle Williams - "Brokeback Mountain"

**Only seen Brokeback Mountain but I did think Michelle Williams did a great job

ANIMATED FEATURE FILM:
"Howl's Moving Castle"
"Tim Burton's Corpse Bride"
"Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit"

**Only seen Howl's and thought it was reallly good.

ART DIRECTION:
"Good Night, and Good Luck" - Art Direction: Jim Bissell, Set Decoration: Jan Pascale
"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" - Art Direction: Stuart Craig, Set Decoration: Stephenie McMillan
"King Kong" - Art Direction: Grant Major, Set Decoration: Dan Hennah and Simon Bright
"Memoirs of a Geisha" - Art Direction: John Myhre, Set Decoration: Gretchen Rau
"Pride and Prejudice" - Art Direction: Sarah Greenwood, Set Decoration: Katie Spencer

**I want and think Memoirs of a Geisha should get this one. I really liked the special effects of the tournament in HP, though, so I'm glad it was nominated

CINEMATOGRAPHY:
"Batman Begins" - Wally Pfister
"Brokeback Mountain" - Rodrigo Prieto
"Good Night, and Good Luck" - Robert Elswit
"Memoirs of a Geisha" - Dion Beebe
"The New World" - Emmanuel Lubezki

Batman Begins?! WTF. Good movie but ... no. Brokeback had terrific scenery. GNGL had better acting than cinematography. I think this is a close one with the ones I picked and I would be glad if either of them won.

COSTUME DESIGN:
"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Gabriella Pescucci
"Memoirs of a Geisha" - Colleen Atwood
"Mrs Henderson Presents" - Sandy Powell
"Pride and Prejudice" - Jacqueline Durran
"Walk the Line" - Arianne Phillips

MoaG was the only one I saw but it's enough to win from what I've seen in marketing from the other films

DIRECTING:
"Brokeback Mountain" - Ang Lee
"Capote" - Bennett Miller
"Crash" - Paul Haggis
"Good Night, and Good Luck" - George Clooney
"Munich" - Steven Spielberg

It's gonna be brokeback but I agree that Munich was terrific by Spielberg standards. Crash should NOT win this.

DOCUMENTARY FEATURE:
"Darwin's Nightmare"
"Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room"
"March of the Penquins"
"Murderball"
"Street Fight"

Murderball was great, but this better go to March of the Penguins

***** removed nominations I don't really care about *****

MAKEUP:
"The Chronicles of Narnia" - Howard Berger and Tami Lane
"Cinderella Man" - David Leroy Anderson and Lance Anderson
"Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" - Dave Elsey and Annette Miles

I picked Narnia out of bias.

MUSIC (SCORE):
"Brokeback Mountain" - Gustavo Santaolalla
"The Constant Gardener" - Alberto Iglesias
"Memoirs of a Geisha" - John Williams
"Munich" - John Williams
"Pride and Prejudice" - Dario Marianelli

Didn't really pay attention to the music in anything but Brokeback, but I'm going with MoaG b/c of the Kabuki scene

MUSIC (SONG):
"In the Deep" - "Crash"
"It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp" - "Hustle & Flow"
"Travelin Thru" - "Transamerica"

BEST PICTURE:
"Brokeback Mountain"
"Capote"
"Crash"
"Good Night, and Good Luck"
"Munich"

Brokeback will win this

SOUND EDITING:
"King Kong" - Mike Hopkins and Ethan Van der Ryn
"Memoirs of a Geisha" - Wylie Stateman
"War of the Worlds" - Richard King

Not King Kong, maybe WotW and Moag. Doesn't matter here.

SOUND MIXING:
"The Chronicles of Narnia" - Terry Porter, Dean A Zupancic and Tony Johnson
"King Kong" - Christopher Boyes, Michael Semanick, Michael Hedges and Hammond Peek
"Memoirs of a Geisha" - Kevin O'Connell, Greg P Russell, Rick Kline and John Pritchett
"Walk the Line" - Paul Massey, DM Hemphill and Peter F Kurland
"War of the Worlds" - Andy Nelson, Anna Behlmer and Ronald Judkins

Narnia out of bias

VISUAL EFFECTS:
"The Chronicles of Narnia" - Dean Wright, Bill Westenhofer, Jim Berney, and Scott Farrar
"King Kong" - Joe Letteri, Brian Van't Hul, Christian Rivers and Richard Taylor
"War of the Worlds"- Dennis Muren, Pablo Helman, Randy Dutra and Daniel Sudick

Narnia with the exception of the giants. King Kong should NOT win this. WotW, maybe, but I loved how the animals looked and blended in Narnia

WRITING (ADAPTED SCREENPLAY):
"Brokeback Mountain"
"Capote"
"The Constant Gardener"
"A History of Violence"
"Munich"

This one is hard. I loved Brokeback, Violence, and Munich in terms of writing. It's Brokeback's night so it'll get it.

WRITING (ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY):
"Crash"
"Good Night, and Good Luck"
"Match Point"
"The Squid and the Whale"

"Syriana"

I only told karomon this, but I'm planning on organizing a protest/riot of some sort if Crash wins this category. I want it to go to Match Point because I had the most fun with that. Good Night.. was mostly about the acting, to me. Squid and the Whale... I was mostly about Owen Wilson, but I think it's second to Match Point.
