Springtime was beautiful with the flowers blooming and animals just beginning to hop along lawns again. Spring just had the air of welcome and blossoming warmth. But I think that being by the ocean at Switzy's Outdoor Ice Cream parlor is pushing the envelope on just how warm it is. Spinning around on my bar stool I took another spoonful of coffee peanut butter swirl, wondering just where my date was. Perusing the crowd once more, I felt a sudden drop in my gut. Oh, of course. He's already here. And has probably been watching me spin around like a five year old.

The sun shined fairly brightly as I made my way through the crowds of people on the beachfront, weaving my way past them on the busy path. As I neared my destination I took the chance to quickly brush some of my hair out of my face and clean my glasses. I always tried to look my best whenever I went out, and today was definitely no exception. Reaching the ice cream parlor, I was about to carefully look around for the girl I was meeting before my eyes were drawn to someone spinning on a bar stool. Watching for a second, I realised the person in question was the girl I was going on a date with, making me smile a little in amusement, and I gave her a small wave as I saw her look in my direction.

Someone was waving at me from the wooden boardwalk. I examined him, taking in the shining glasses and pushed back hair. I thought, he looks like he's prepared for a date. Wait a minute, so am I. So there is a high probability that he is my date!
I yelled over the din of laughter from my right, "Hey! Come sit by me! I got you a vanilla chocolate fudge!

There was a lot of talking and laughing going on but I was still able to hear her call me over. Making my way towards her, I sat down on a bar stool and flashed her another smile.
"Sorry for the wait, the place is pretty crowded today."

I took another spoonful of my quickly melting ice cream.
"Yeah, I know. First day of warm weather and everyone crawls out of their holes to bask in the sunlight."
I pointed at a blonde girl downing shake.
"I haven't seen her since last August. Thought she went to Malibu or something. I guess the beach here is too hard to resist."
I turned back to him, "And now for a wonderful change in topics. Summer's coming up, and so are the conventions. You ever go to one?"

I started to eat my ice cream before it began to melt too much and noted its deliciousness, glancing up at the girl as she talked to me and pausing when she asked me a question.
"Conventions huh? To be honest I've never been to one before. I've always wanted to check some of them out but they're usually a little too far or expensive for me to travel to. The best I've done was going to one of those Vocaloid live concerts.", I talked to her before taking another pause to eat another spoonful of ice cream. "Definitely a lot of fun though. I'd love to attend another one."

I nodded and ate the last bit of my ice cream. It was good while it lasted. Tapping the little plastic spoon against my lips I realized something. "Oh my god! I never asked your name! I'm Sabrina, geek extraordinaire! And you're the person who I'm on a date with who totally has a name! I'm so sorry! You must have thought that I was very rude!"

I was just finishing up my ice cream when I heard her. "Ah that's fine, I'm not offended or anything. I nearly forgot to ask for your name myself.", I replied rubbing the back of my head a little in embarrassment. "I'm Daniel, self-proclaimed nerd and video game enthusiast."

"Well okay then. Now that we're all introduced, would you like to go do something? There's plenty of places to go hang out and shop, or browse, along the boardwalk. Or we could just walk and talk along the beach. I might have to grab a sweatshirt first though." I looked down at my gauzy Easter dress and sandals, "I'm not really dressed for the wind that's blowing off the water."

"Doesn't look too crowded on the beach, a walk would be nice.", I replied looking out at the mostly empty beach. "You can use my jacket if you want.", I added upon hearing her mention the breeze, holding my dark grey jacket in one arm.

"Thank you!" I grab the jacket and his hand and jump off of the bar stool. I picked up my scratched yugioh skateboard from underneath the stool and slowly started wheeling away, not yet trusting myself to propel it forward without padding. "I think that the skateboard's cool! And don't make fun of me for not knowing how to use it, I'm learning!"

"It does look pretty cool.", I replied with a smirk as I got a look at her skateboard. "Wouldn't dream of making fun of you for that. I'm not exactly the best at skateboarding.", I added with a short laugh as I walked by her side.

The steps were coming up quickly, too quickly. I leaped to the side and watched as my skateboard dove into the sand. I followed, sliding off the side of the boardwalk. Calling up to Dan, "I never learned to stop!"

I ran to the edge of the boardwalk as she and her skateboard went over. She seemed to be okay at least. I offered a sympathetic smile and held out my hand to help her up.

I took his hand and jumped back up onto the side. "Soo, want to go back down to the beach? It's not warm enough to go swimming or anything, but it's nice down there. And I'm sure there's plenty of dogs to pet." I pointed at a cocker spaniel chasing a frisbee.
