Sorcery is the magical discipline of shaping the world around oneself through the use of certain primal energies. Sorcery is a strange and mystifying way of interacting with and changing the world, and most sorcerers can spend their entire lives trying to master this art.Through the discipline of sorcery, mages can effect the world around themselves through various means, either for defense, offense or manipulating the structures of living and non-living matter around them.
It is not beyond a skilled sorcerer's ability to manipulate even something as vast as the weather. Using the discipline of sorcery, a mage can channel vast energies as destructive fire bolts, change their bodies and perform other wonders, which to any primitive or non-magic using beings would surely make them seem almost godlike.
Unlike other systems of magic such as, Shamanism, Sorcery is a system of manipulating magical energies that does not rely on using spirits as mediums or acting as conduits for divine forces, making it a very unique form of magic as mages are not required to summon and form contracts with spirits nor devote themselves to a specific god.
Still, to achieve any level of power or skill a sorcerer must study, experiment and study some more. Many long hours both challenging and exhausting research are required for a mage to learn to use the discipline of sorcery. But to better understand what sorcery is, one must wonder whence the power comes that allows a mage to use sorcery. While no one knows for sure a few guesses are: Perhaps magic is a regenerating field of energy in which mages draw upon, another might be the force of magic itself is living force which some individuals are sensitive to and others are not. Those sensitive to it can manipulate it for different purposes, those who are not cannot. These are merely two possibilities, the fact remains that sorcerers can spend their entire lives seeking the answers to the mysteries of magic, and many do, but one must remember it is how one uses magic that determines their course in sorcery for good or ill, it must always be respected or it might just be one's undoing.
The Academy of Gioia was one such place where those individuals who sought to learn more of sorcery, solve its many mysteries, and add their knowledge to what had already been discovered. The Academy was established and built in the year (Date) and served to teach many a student the myriad mysteries and wonders of magic for many years, and although events through history has caused the academy to rise and fall it has managed to remain as one of the greatest founts of magical study and scholarly pursuits.

Aer Aer is the source of power for sorcery. It is an energy that runs through the world and exists in all living things. Sorcerers and Arcanists tap into this energy to cast their spells, however, the natural aer available to sorcerers and wizards is usually limited. For this reason, most mages don't use their magic except as a last resort. With time and training, a mage's mana pool will gradually increase.
Beyond training, one way to increase mana pools is through the use of aerstones. Most aerstones in current existence belong to the Mineralians, for they alone possess the knowledge in cultivating aer and grounding it into the solid form we know as aerstones. Many magic items are usually the product of these rare crystals. Aerstones are not naturally occurring, the secret to their production known only to the Mineralians, but there are experiments occuring in Gioia today where sorcers attempt to store or imbue aer into objects so they may be used in a similar manner to aerstones.
Sorcerer vs. Arcanists Although what both do is the same thing, there is a difference between the two; a sorcerer is someone with natural ability, typically through supernatural ancestry. An Arcanist is someone who has normal ability, but has trained to become a mage. Sorcerers are incredibly rare in Spieriea, and are usually the result of unions between spirits and mortals, and there are not many of these families in existence, many of which are unaware of there ability.
Anyone can learn sorcery, but it is usually restricted to actual mages. A warrior can learn a very minor spell or two, the sort of spells only a first year academy student would learn. These are a drain on strength, however, and a warrior who wants to cast spells in battle could easily die after the casting drains him. These basic kinds of sorcery are called "common magic".

Schools of Sorcery
Arcane
Common
Artificing The magic of the Mineralians of Adamantia, it is a fitting school of magic for a race of people who are regarded as master craftsmen, and it is no surprise to learn that the magic they use is as much an art for them as all crafts. Through the use of runes, Mineralians are capable of embedding, cultivating, and harvesting magical energy, and with this ability have created what we know as Artificing (otherwise known as Rune Magic). Seconding as an ancient written language for the race, rune magic is used for enchanting and producing various magical effects, generally depending on the runes used and the soulstones used to craft the runes (soulstones being the physical manifestation of magical energy that they harvest from others). While the ability to create soulstones is the Mineralians alone, other races are capable of utilizing Rune Magic, although few pursue it do the the difficulty of the language and the care that must be taken in forming the runes.
Runes work by anchoring aer and spirits to a physical point, in turn making that point a constant area of effect spell. With the addition of control runes, activation can be set to trigger under specific circumstances, although are generally no more complex then physical contact or a general amount of applied weight. The runes meant to interact and mediate with one another are all connected together, the runes written much like cursive. Although they are made with soulstones, and can be inscribed onto the surface of an object, the runes themselves don't exist in a "physical" form.
Most runes are, in fact, embedded into the very material, Mineralians forging the runes into the very metal itself. Because of the nature of these runes, it is highly difficult to break or separate lines of runes. The only known ways that these lines can be broken being that the item itself is physically broken into pieces, therefore separating the lines, a soulstone is used to cross or mark out the runic lines, in turn destroying the runic sequence, or, and this is something no one has done, sever the magic of the runes themselves.
However, many, specifically Spirits, see Rune magic as an abomination. Because of this will you rarely, if ever, find a spirit that is willing to abide by the summons or calls of a Mineralian, or any who practice this school of magic.
Alchemy There are two types of magic users in Ruburia. There are Mages, who pursue magic as a mystical art and use it to cast spells, and then there are Alchemists, who view magic as a science, and utilize it in what is known as Alchemy. Although they both use magic, their uses and applications very a great deal. As well, both types of magic users will have generally vary different viewpoints on the use of magic. This tends to lead to rivalries between the two branches, but nothing that has gotten out of hand.
The Mages of Ruburia control and direct their magic, in order to create spells, by using chants, incantations, and reagents. They make use of magic symbols and glyphs, and other means as ways of controlling the flow of magic in order to produce a given effect. Incantations and symbols are used by Mages for short and simple spells, while more complex spells and rituals will rely upon the elaboration of chants and glyphs. It should be noted that the actual words used during chants and incantations don't really matter. It is the meaning behind the words that does, and as such magic users will sometimes have different meaning and different chants or incantations when it comes to casting spells, even if the effect is, virtually, the same.
The Alchemists of Ruburia don't so much control magic as use it as a catalyst. By using ingredients and materials, they are able to create potions and crystals that react with magic for a given effect. By mixing a potion and transferring magical energy into it, one may pour the concoction onto a field to make the earth rich and fertile for growing. The contents might being to glow brightly, or have special healing properties when applied to wounds or sores. Alchemists have also begun to find offensive uses with Alchemy, creating crystals that, when magic is channeled into them, can explode with a stream of fire, explode outward with kinetic force, and more. They have also begun to develop and create things such as golems, mindless servants that they can control from a distance with the use of glyphs, and even Homunculus. Artificial humans.
Due to the many uses and applications of alchemy, it is becoming more and more popular with the country, with magic users becoming fewer and fewer as alchemists grow in numbers. As such, rifts between Traditionalist, older families of magic users who stick to the old ways of magic, and Alchemists exist. This since of rivalry exists mainly in the city of Dinalis, where the academy of Gioia is based, but even outside of the city examples can be seen.
