I've yet to utilize FF.net's blocking feature but I'm finding myself increasing tempted to do so. There are just some users who seem to lack basic common courtesy toward their fellow members and I honestly don't want to get some glaringly awful review that might deter others from reading my stories. Don't get me wrong, I welcome constructive feedback. What I don't welcome, however, is nonsense that goes along the lines of "you're an awful writer because you don't pander to my needs as a reader" for a couple of paragraphs.

There are some bad eggs out there that I'm inclined to preemptively block, simply because they have the reputation of unnecessarily flaming stories and then bashing that writer in the "little black book" that is their public profile. So I'm wondering, have any of you blocked anyone on FF.net? I don't want to seem like some frightened little child who can't take criticism. But even though I'm on the fence about preemptive blocking, I will block users who I know advertise in review sections with an account (since that can't be deleted and FF.net's mods are slacking off a bit).

I have never yet blocked a user, but there have been tempted to plenty of times. I just haven't yet because I don't want to give them the "validation" that blocking them would do.

Right? Usually the people who cause problems are the type to use the fact that you blocked them as "proof" that you're immature or something. However, I'm thinking I'm going to actually start blocking people after roughly three years of having some issues. It'll make my experience a bit more pleasant and make me feel less misanthropic (since I asked the person to please stop posting ad spam three times to no avail). Also, as far as I know, when you block someone they can still read/favorite/follow your content but can't send you messages or leave reviews. It seems a little odd, but it's good enough for me.

I have been tempted to block the same reviewer who never gives me anything more than "I love it!" buuuut at the same time...getting reviews on ff.net is like pulling teeth. And I'm grateful that they actually reviewed in the first place.

That reviewer of yours probably doesn't feel like they're eloquent enough to be posting reviews that you'll like, so they give you the basic gist of how they feel since you more than likely have loads of verbose reviews that are simply teeming with valuable feedback- which that reviewer thinks they can't compete with. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I'm kinda going off on a lecture tangent. Damn. You probably already know all this. sweatdrop

Er... I agree that getting a review out of a reader is like pulling teeth. There are a lot of immature writers on FFnet who lash out at every imagined slight, which frightens a lot of potential reviewers. Some people have had bad experiences with writers, so they keep reviews short and "lacking" (for lack of a better word) to avoid ruffling any feathers. I personally try to avoid ruffling feathers since the end result is never worth the headache. confused

Lol oh I know. My beef with that reader is it's the same response FOR EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER. I don't know whether to laugh or cry anymore. I just thank them for their feedback and go back to writing the next chapter.

I actually get more extensive feedback off of AO3 than ff.net recently tbh. sweatdrop
