Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak..
The quiet hum of the car's engine was a soothing sound behind him as a man stood in the palace's plaza.. the steel grey of his eyes focused on the intricate fountains in front of him as a small group spoke softly to his left. Two were his Handlers from the Market, having delivered him here only half an hour ago.. The other three were Staff Members in this place whom had come out to handle the payment and paperwork. No one seemed to pay him much attention after the initial study and to be honest that suited the male just fine; Clasping his hands together firmly behind his back and relaxing his stance as he waited patiently for his next order. Everything from his posture to the (admittedly casual) uniform he wore implied Military experience, his clothes and boots spotless and the man's appearance well groomed.. Yet he seemed to lack the harshness so many fighters developed, instead radiating a sense of calm that lulled even his companions into relaxing behind him. The shackles on his wrists were a formality, the chain so dainty between the cuffs he could have snapped it on a whim.. They knew he had no intentions of running.
After a few moments more the men speaking shook hands, Stray turning his head just enough to study the group over his broad shoulder as curiosity teased him. This place was far different than Mira's town house, the air felt stiff and the people smelled nervous.. They were uneasy with his size, uncomfortable with his battle experience. He soothed these concerns with the lessons Mira had drilled into him, keeping his movements small and his actions polite as if he were charming rabbits from bolting. Mira had taught him much.. He missed the stubborn old bird. Closing his eyes he turned his face forward again, his shoulders lifting as he gave a slow inhale. His Master was to be a young boy this time, a noble of some sort from what his Handler's had told him.No one had bothered explaining why he had been chosen specifically and he hadn't asked, aware that the answer wouldn't change the task at hand.
His handlers would not leave without the Master's signature upon the papers, they had little choice but to wait for the boy.. Stray was content to hold his post, savoring being outdoors.
.. and what it takes to sit down and listen.

Adina Reindheart The crown prince Adina hadn't been aware that he was getting a slave or a guard of any kind, so he had snuck away from his home to be with one of his bedmates. As he was getting dressed the prince felt the hand of his lover tracing the delicate wing outline on his back. That was the one thing the prince never liked, having anyone touch his delicate wings. The prince looked at the other for a moment showing his displeasure at being touched in such a way. "You know my wings are off limits Saadeth." That was all the fairy prince said as he left the others home and returned to the palace. As he came towards his elegant home he saw the group standing outside and let out a sigh. Having assumed that they were a search party for him, he soon spotted a new face. Not recognizing that face he was curious. "What is this?" He asked looking at Chance before turning his gaze away. "I didn't expect any company so soon. Have my parents something to do with this visit?"

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak..
" Your Highness.. A gift for you has arrived." His Butler spoke first, taking charge of the situation as the boy's parents paid him to do.. By playing on the Prince's spoiled nature. Gesturing towards the slavers he cleared his throat, still displeased with the guard specimen that the boy's parents had chosen as he explained. " Her Majesty the Queen selected a pet for you, however if you dislike him we could find another more suitable subject..?" Well trained or not the slave was a brute, unfitting for the royal house.
Hearing the boy approach Chance had half turned to study the new comer, his gaze briefly meeting Adina's until the boy looked away.. and his own attention was drawn to the Butler. The man's prattle didn't bother him, he'd pegged the male to be manipulative the moment they had met, but it was a surprise to see the 'Master' was a rather striking creature. Not human, the scent was unfamiliar.. But he certainly was young. Barely noticing the tug as his cuff's chain snapped Chance pulled his hands apart and neatly fell into a mid-waist bow, one arm remaining tight against his side.. the chain jingling from his wrist as he placed his right fist over his heart in a respectful manner. Wanted or not, Master or not, he would mind his manners.. even if it earned a distressed look from the Butler as the old man eyed that broken chain with a unsettled frown.
.. and what it takes to sit down and listen.

Adina Reindheart Looking towards his butler the prince nodded slightly. So, mommy and daddy thought to get him a new pet? This time a man? Well that was certainly interesting... Perhaps they were aware of his behavior more then they let on, not that he really cared. "No, we are not going to send this one back. I rather like the look of him, besides the Queen picked this one right? So, it would be bad form to send him back without giving him a proper trial period." Of course Adina was aware of the fact that his family got this male to keep an eye on him, perhaps to make sure that he remained within the palace when the mood struck him. Looking back to the slave Adina raised an eyebrow as the chain that held his hands together broke. "What is your name.... and species." As a fairy, he was able to tell the other wasn't exactly a human though he looked like he was. That would be fun. He hadn't really been with anyone that wasn't human and he wondered if his parents were aware of what they had brought home. No, they probably just picked this slave at random for his clearly military background and his looks. After all, his adoptive mother and father really didn't seem to pay any attention to their son, or to anything else but their parties. It was really a surprise that they even thought of the prince at all.

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak..
It was vague.. but as the Princeling denied the old man's suggestion the corner of Stray's lips quirked in a faint smile. The fact that he'd shown even that much of a reaction.. meant the slave found the old man's petulant expression very amusing indeed. He simply knew better than to voice it.
Straightening back to his full height when he was addressed by the boy Stray did not answer immediately.. folding his arms over his chest as he weighed his words carefully. This boy's mother had given him very firm orders to be vague with her son, he remembered them clearly, but really.. he wasn't her dog. The only person he had any interest in pleasing was his Master.. Adina . In his mind that meant the boy's order trumped even the Queen's. Accepting this logic the man lifted his head, passively holding the Prince's stare as he answered. " Chance Sterling. I am a Therianthrope, also known as a Were Dog." Naturally husky his voice had a soothing quality to it, hinting at just how calm he was despite speaking to his Master. .. and what it takes to sit down and listen.

Adina Reindheart Adina smiled at hearing what his slave was. "I didn't think you were human, it will be nice to not be the only one that isn't human here." He said clearly pleased with this finding. He personally had never heard of what Chance was, but then again he had never seen another of his kind either. Turning to his servants the prince smiles. "You may leave us now, I wish to get to know my new pet alone." Of course Adina knew that this male was probably stronger then he was, but he also had fairy magic. Once the two of them were alone Adina walked around his slave and nodded. "Well, I will give her some credit. She is aware of my taste, she doesn't know me very well." No, he had no intention of playing with Chance. Not when his mother had picked this slave out. It would mean he could be easily bought by the queen to do as she expected. Since what he really wanted was the love and attention of his parents. "Tell me, how did you end up as a slave? Were you born into it or taken. Perhaps someone sold you?" The teen was curious. Having been a slave himself he wanted to know how most were taken into the trade.

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak..
" ..." Lifting his hand the man stroked his beard.. a habit he had developed when thinking back on this very topic. There was no anger, no pain.. just quiet reflection in his tone as he allowed his gaze to narrow thoughtfully. " My unit was charged with the extraction of a slave, a noble's son that had been kidnapped nearly a year beforehand. My Team successfully pulled the boy out.. I was captured in the process." And that was, for now at least, what he would leave it at. He did not know this youth nearly well enough to offer such confidence yet. Besides, that was the version of his past he liked the most. Not a lie, but not the entire truth either.
Another flex of his fingers against his beard and Chance followed the boy with his gaze, silently taking notes.. even as he returned the boy's question softly. " What about you, born or captured?" He'd seen enough slaves to know their body language, even if this boy was free now he hadn't always been.. and Chance was a bit curious himself. .. and what it takes to sit down and listen.

Adina Reindheart Adina was a bit surprised to be questioned by Chance, but he saw no harm in answering. "I suppose you have met enough slaves to know when you see one. I was found in the woods as an infant, raised, and when I could work, I was trained to be a slave. Eventually, I was taken in by this family and they learned of my true heritage." The prince shrugged and looked away from his new guard. The fairy prince really didn't know what he was going to do with Chance, but he had to figure it out. "I suppose I should take you inside. Have you been given anything to eat? Your clean, so you were bathed before you arrived." Of course Adina would be showing Chance the guest bedroom he would be in. He wasn't going to have the man stay in his own room. At least the rooms were connected, so Chance would be able to come and go.

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak..
This kid.. The silver of his gaze warmed as Chance gave a slow nod, amusement and awareness filling the Were even as his Master openly debated how to handle his presence. He was going to be a handful alright, but.. it was a bit of a relief to see he had a good heart under that Prince title. " I was given adequate rations on the drive over, but thank you. May I remove these?" The last was directed at his wrists, the cuffs still shackled snuggly against his skin. They would be just as easy to snap as the chain had been. Being a slave hadn't broken the boy, that was good in Chance's mind.. It meant the kid had a durable nature to him. .. and what it takes to sit down and listen.

Adina Reindheart Hearing that his new pet had been fed Adina turned his attentions to the chains on the other's wrists. "Ah yes, please do. I am unsure of the metals used, so it is best if I don't touch them." He wasn't allergic to metal or anything persay, but it was easiest for him not to touch certain materials. Yes it was more of a legend about his species not being able to touch Iron, but still, he didn't wish to try this theory out. Burns were nasty things after all. "It was rather useless of them to use bindings on you to begin with. If you wish to run off, I wont stop you, and clearly the material they used was useless in the first place. Seems the place you came from didn't do their research." The young prince shook his head and started towards the palace. "Tell me, what do you think of your home? My mother probably wants you in my rooms with me, but I have no intention of seeing through with that plan, your to stay in your own chambers." After all, Adina didn't want to have Chance in the same room if one of his lovers came to spend the night with him. It would be a hassle to say the least. "I really have no need for you, but it should be amusing to see the reaction of the queen when she sees your still here, if she ever leaves those parties she and my father throw." The tone of the prince had gone cold and unfeeling as he spoke. It was clear that he didn't think highly of those that had adopted him. If anything Adina felt he was nothing more then a pawn used by the king and queen who were unable to have their own heir. They had looked for someone to fill the role of future king, once that was taken care of, they went back to the wild parties and events leaving Adina to be tutored and trained by servants that were always replaced when he grew attached to anyone. To him, love was just a word that held no meaning. Lust he could understand, and the people that he went to bed with, they only filled that longing to be cared about for a short period of time. The prince had known that most of those he was with were doing so to gain his favor in hopes of a better position in the court. He was surrounded by those that only sought to use him for their own gains. He was sick of it. Pulling himself out of the thoughts swirling in his mind, Adina looked to Chance. "How long have you been in your current position? I believe it would be best to understand just what they said your job was when you arrived." ((I apologize this took so long for me to reply. I had been looking at a damn loading screen for the last hour because my stupid computer and internet decided it was going to stop working. Had to restart the god damn thing. --yea im pissed off at it))

Without hesitaton, the moment the boy agreed, Chance reached for his bindings.. pinching the metal and giving it a firm twist until the first cuff cracked. The second followed suit, yet as he removed them the man did not allow even a sliver to drop; Gathering the tattered pieces and storing them in his pant pocket as though to ensure no trace of the metal went near Adina. He vaguely understood the caution, his species didn't do too well with Silver.. so it was not a foreign concept to think this boy's race might have issues of their own. " It was, more or less, a formality.. They are aware I have no interest in running."
Letting the boy take the lead the Were followed at a relaxed pace, keeping his longer stride in check as he studied the property around them.. taking notes on what needed improvements to increase the security. That did not, however, mean that he missed that bit about Adina's mother.. But he didn't address it yet. Patience would earn him the answers he wanted. Instead he addressed the boy's first question, keeping his voice low to avoid seeming judgmental. " It needs work. Needed or not I am going to protect you, I would like to familiarize with the property and staff to do this." The Queen hadn't said a word about that, but if it helped get the work done.. he would keep that information to himself for a while.
The next question.. did manage to surprise him, his full attention returning to Adina as he leveled his gaze on the Fairy. " You have not commanded me yet, so I cannot answer that properly." It was that simple.. He had discarded the demands of the Queen just moments after realizing she was not his Master. The only person he had any intention of obeying was standing in front of him. His decision to guard the boy was purely self-made, the etiquette shown up to this point a habit branded into him from Mira.. But orders? That was entirely up to the Prince. .. and what it takes to sit down and listen. (( It is just fine, don't worry. wink ))

Adina Reindheart Adina figured that Chance had no interest in running off, after all it was clear he had the ability to do so if he had wished. As the prince watched what happened with the metal restrains he gave a small smile. So, his guard was being careful not to leave anything behind. That was.... decent actually. "You know, you don't have to keep pace with me, and you have permission to explore this palace. After all, if your here to watch me they cant keep you out of the locations I visit the most." Of course where Adina always went was the gardens. He had his own private garden that no one was allowed into since he would let his wings out. "I will not command you ever. I know what it is like to be commanded to do something. I do however feel it is a good idea to learn of your background if we are to trust one another, don't you think so?"

" Shall we stick to requests, then..?" Chance supplied with a chuckle, humor turning up the corner of his lips as his brow arched in question. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate the boy's words, just the opposite actually.. because they reminded him of Mira. She had the same off handed approach to this sort of situation. That knowledge softened him a little as the Were's posture became slightly less aloof. This was another topic he held his tongue on, adding it to his mental vault along side the discussion about the kid's parents.
Folding his arms again Chance did as the boy suggested and broke the formal behavior, half turning away from the Prince to instead watch the Fountains again.. seeming calmed by the noise. " Trust.. is important. Are you asking about my time as a slave, or before?" .. and what it takes to sit down and listen.

Adina Reindheart "Requests are fine, as long as we are not in public. While I dislike it, we will need to maintain at least the appearance of master and servant. I am sure you understand the reason for that." Adina turned to look at Chance for a moment and gave a small smile. It seemed that the man beside him was starting to relax a bit, that was good. He wouldn't want to be shadowed by someone that was strict and stern all the time. As Chance looked at the fountain the prince smiled and focused on one changing the water into the shape of a dog for a moment. "I suppose I was interested in both. Certainly you weren't a slave the entire time, you were military trained, I don't think they accept many slaves in that line of work."
