--- | Ouja Boards | The ancient Egyptians used a device LIKE a ouija board. They used a ring attached to a strand of thread, held over a circular table with symbols on it, and the ring would strike the table to spell out answers. The Ouija board, the kind we see in toy stores today, came about in 1889 when William Fuld of Baltimore, Maryland, and his brother Isaac, marketed Ouija boards to the American public. They had a small operation and the board was the hottest item they would ever produce. People bought the board not as a game, but as a device with which they would talk to their loved ones killed in battle (note the two World Wars happening; this was where the board's popularity really soared). During this time, the fad spread, and so did Ouija's notorious reputation as being more than just a "game." Finally in about 1960 or thereabouts, Parker Brothers approached the two Fuld brothers since they were having trouble making enough boards to satisfy the demand for them. PB then took over the rights to the ouija board and the rest, as they say, is history. Ouija came about as kind of a by-product of the whole spiritualist craze that was all the rage in the early 1900's, and during Houdini's time as he debunked many 'mediums'. Table-tipping was being done back then, and a Frenchman, who's last name was "planchette", produced a device that looked like a small table like a ouija pointer, that stood on two small stilts and a pen or pencil at the third point. The operator would sit with his hands as lightly as he could resting on the planchette, this device named after it's inventor, and the thing would move, producing writing. Ouija replaced the messy planchette (the writing was messy cursive scrawls) when a board was used in place of the sheet of paper, and all three stilts on the planchette were covered with felt enabling it to slide in any direction. This made the communications fast, clear, and easy. And specifically meant to be done with a partner, "gentleman and lady preferred."
Eugene Orlando adds: "William Fuld died in 1927, Isaac in 1939. Since Parker Brothers didn't take over the William Fuld company until 1966, it would have been quite a trick to take it over from the brothers. But then it is alt.folklore.ghost-stories isn't it? Actually, Parker Brothers saw a bargain when they saw one and bought the business from William's kids. They had moved the factory into a smaller building and sold out not because there was so much demand for the ouija, but just the opposite. Ouija sales had never been worse. It took a Parkers advertising blitz to put the popularity back in the Ouija board." ---

--- | Some Basic Rules |
-If the planchette falls from a Ouija board, a spirit will get loose. -If the planchette repeatedly makes a figure eight, it meansthat an evil spirit is in control of the board. -If you should get an evil spirit, quickly turn the planchette upside down and use it that way. -The Board must be "closed" properly or evil spirits will remain behind to haunt the operator. -Never use the Ouija when you are ill or in a weakened condition since this may make you vulnerable to possession. -The spirit of the Ouija board creates "wins" for the user, causing him to become more and more dependent on the board. -Addiction follows. This is called "progressive entrapment." -Evil spirits contacted through the Ouija board will try to win your confidence with false flattery and lies. -Always be respectful and never upset the spirits. -Never use the Ouija in a graveyard or place where a terrible death has occurred or you will bring forth malevolent entities. -Witchboards are so named because witches use them to summon demons. -When using a glass as a message indicator, you must always cleanse it first by holding it over a burning candle. -Ouija boards that are disposed of improperly, come back to haunt the owner. -A Ouija Board will scream if you try to burn it. People who hear the scream have less than thirty-six hours to live. There is only one proper way to dispose of it: break the board into seven pieces, sprinkle it with Holy Water then bury it. -If you must use a Ouija board, make your own. Arrange the letters and numbers, into a circle so whatever is trapped within that circle can't escape. -If you place a pure silver coin on the board, no evil spirits will come through. -NEVER leave the planchette on the board if you aren't using it. -Lecherous spirits from the Ouija board will sometimes ask young women to do rather . . . ah, odd things. Ignore them and always remember that your Ouija partner (i.e. boyfriend) has nothing to do with this. -Never play alone! -Never let the spirits count down through the numbers or go through the alphabet as they can getout of the board this way. -If the planchette goes to the four corners of the board it means that you have contacted an evil spirit. ---
Three things never to ask a Ouija board 1. Never ask about God. 2. Never ask when you are going to die. 3. Never ask where the gold is buried.

--- | Suggestions |
Like does attract like, so if you are trying to contact a spirit, try to rid yourself of fear and apprehension. Relax and breathe deeply. It is wonderful and entertaining to be excited, but try not to be afraid. If you are attempting to connect with your subconscious, again breathe deeply, and know yourself well. In other words, if you easily become obsessed with things (gambling, 900 #s, drugs, food, television, computers, internet, etc.) be sure to keep yourself in check with the Ouija as well. Obviously eight hours of Ouija or talking board sessions every day for a month is over doing it! One last quick note about developing psychic powers with the Ouija, if you are hiding truths from yourself that you aren't prepared to deal with, you may have problems. (examples may be: if you are homosexual, if you are self-hating, if you are in a relationship that you secretly wish would end but are afraid of being alone, etc.) If you begin your Ouija session with the intention of just seeing what will happen, but without letting superstitious fears scare you, you're well on your way to a fun, entertaining, and informative experience. Second, when they contacted a spirit, they believed everything it told them. If you contact a spirit, ask who it is, where they are from, how they died, or any other questions. The evoked does lie. Who knows if it was really ever a person, who can say whether or not it was the mind of one of the group, or a 'demon' or just a practical joke? After you have all the information, go to the library and check on it! If someone in the group knew the spirit in life, ask questions that the person in the group would not know, something you can verify from living relatives, or from information available from the library, city records, the internet, etc. Then, if it all checks out, go back and contact them again, or go over the notes of what the spirit said. If it doesn't check out, the energy may be a trickster type, or may be confused. It would be silly to assume that other worlds work on the same linear theories that ours does. Third, don't ask stupid questions. If you ask when you will die and the spirit says 'in 2 years in a crashed airplane' then you will be afraid. Some spirits (or energies, or demons, or thought forms, or whatever they are) feed on fear and will tell you anything to evoke that fear in you. Through this fear they gain control and power. So basically, they are feeding on YOUR energy. This type of psychic vampirism will draw even more 'hungry' energy forms to you, and the cycle goes on and on. And besides, your fate is not etched in stone. If what the spirit says is true, don't get on a plane 2 years from now and you will prevent it. If you ask the Ouija if ______ loves you, you don't need to contact a spirit to tell you, your inner self knows the truth and can answer through the Ouija or another form of divination. Fourth, If things get negative, put the board away, it is natural to be excited and a bit freaked out, but terror should never be a part of the work because it will draw energies that feed on that. Fifth, avoid using the Ouija alone, especially if you are new at it. If you've contacted a spirit with the board, it will be easier for that spirit to reappear whenever you use it. Why spend time with a spirit that may or may not be legitimate, may or may not be friendly, may or may not be who it says it is. If you are using it for psychic development, have another person there to write down the results and keep you in check so if something other than your inner psyche appears, you've got a friend there to help you. There are also other forms of divination that are not generally associated with spirits that may be more suitable for psychic development such as scrying, tarot, runes, etc. So, it can be fun, exciting, and informative, or it can be dangerous, negative, and drive you insane. It is what you make it, you hold the responsibility (and your friends) so use your common sense and your sixth sense. ---

a suggestion: dont play the holy water bit. holy water is no different than regular water.
in addition, a silver coin will do d**k all. this goes along with the whole "silver kills vampires/werewolves and is a christian misconception, because at that time silver was considered to be pure and holy.

Also, some people believe holy water is blessed by their patron in the imbodiment of a priest[ess], so I suppose it's all on faith. ---

The definition of said water- Water blessed by a preist or preistess for religious puropses
The definition of said water from my world religions teacher- Water that has been 'blessed' with a ritual for religous purposes. ( he pulled out a few bowls and tossed sprinkles of water at us from various bowls) " did you feel anything? Holy water is just tap water, for earthly religions it is spring water or water with salt in it. In other religions, it is how the preist, preistess, deity blesses the water that makes it holy."
