So, I joined the Navy and right as I left for boot camp (like as I was boarding the plane) I handed my mom a letter explaining to her that I was gay and that I was sorry for being a disappointment. Then I had no face-to-face contact for about two and a half months and when I saw her I guess it sort of spread to the rest of the family? I have no idea. It's really not talked about, at all. Which weirds me out.
Still not out to people in the Navy, unless they ask, because from what I have seen you get treated differently.. a lot differently. But all the important people know.
I'm sorry that. that has happened to you. But I thank you for your service and as long as the important people know then I don't think there's anything wrong with it.
Oh, please dont be sorry!
I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. At the time I really wasnt thinking straight but I have had a chance to explain my rationale to my mother and she fully understands.
And it's honestly been a privilege. Thank you.
