A stallion with a brightly colored mane had had enough of the way his parents cooed at each other as if they were doves rather than horses. Hekili muttered under his breath as she strode down the stream bank. How was it that even two years after he and his brother had made their appearance that Aolani and Hina'ea still acted all ooey-gooey around each other. It was enough to make the young stallion nauseous. Of course it was rather sweet but at the same time no child wanted to see open displays of affection between their parents. So it was in his mind high time to go do some open exploring. Hekili had decided to follow the stream to a place that his parents might have never seen. It would go well for him to travel for a while and get some real life experiences.

Hekili's expression was slowly turning from a frown into a hesitant smile. In due time he would return but for now he had a whole world to explore. No one was there to witness the greatest moment in his life so far. He was flying the coop. Or he would have been if he had wings. Hekili snorted in amusement at that thought before realizing the stream was turning into a forested area. All his life he had lived in the open expanses. Never had he dared to venture into forests that contained more shadows than light. Hekili nosed some vegetation out of the way before tentatively easing his way into the forest. What mysteries lay ahead?

Why had no one told him about the intriguing place his now stood in the midst of? Hekili's gaze zipped back and forth as he tracked all movement around him with a keen eye. It was strange that the further he moved into the forest that the more it came to life around him. The stallion was fixated on what appeared to be a lively game of chase between a few squirrels. He watched in silence as the game progressed and let out a soft chuckle when it seemed as if the object that was coveted dropped to the ground. The squirrels were unaware of the change and continued their pursuit of each other. The stallion nosed the object that one squirrel had possessed and gently clamped his teeth around it. "Finders keepers my friends."
