Ava had, for a long time, heard Maple ask for a sibling. Originally, she had faintly laughed and brushed the request off, patting Maple on the head with a well-intended smile and gentle request for alone time. Yet, as time went on and Maple grew more insistent, Ava realized her daughter had grown desperate. Stones from the backyard were brought inside as Maple begged her mother to imbue them, only to pout when Ava noted that she couldn't imbue just any stone – it just wasn't possible! Desperation turned into anger, which quickly became depression, and Ava witnessed her child fall apart. Yet, she just assumed it was a phase. Maple didn't really want a sibling. That'd mean sharing, and another mouth to feed. Clearly, Maple just had the idea stuck in her head for now.
Time went on and Ava kept an eye on her daughter. Maple seemed to grow quiet, solemn, even. She looked into the issue and discovered, to her dismay, Maple wasn't making friends. Her daughter was not only mutated, but also the daughter of the Headmistress. The other kids were too afraid to play with her. She was alone, and Ava's heart broke. Did she even want another kid? Without a doubt she both had the funds and room for a second child, but was she ready? She didn't want to imbue with a present party, no. She wouldn't mind a half-imbued stone, but Ava wasn't ready to be committed to another living adult. She was a good mom. No, a fantastic mother, but a partner? Her? Ava was too busy. Too distant. Love wasn't for her, despite what Kirket thought and claimed. No one would be okay with her amount of dedication to the academy. She even tried the dating scene and they broke up for that very reason. Ava was content being single, and she didn't need to complicate things by imbuing with another active person.
Before Maple she had been scared to have a child. Now? It was second nature. Her daughter was family, and Ava always had time for her. Another child meant more love for the both of them. Her heart fluttered as the weeks passed on and she considered it. Adopting Maple had been easy. She was bringing home an orphan. Choosing to bring a child into this world was.... a touch more frightening? She was creating a life, and Ava was terrified she'd mess it up. What if she lost concentration? Broke the stone? Lost it? No. No. She was Ava - the professional. The mother. The protector. She could do this. She raised Maple just fine, and she could raise another child just as fine.
The thought became a plan, and eventually Ava found herself sitting Maple down with a tentative smile as she revealed her final thoughts. The hug from her daughter was enough to tell her she had made the right choice, and it wasn't long before Maple and Ava began decorating the guest room.
